The problem with the DB Cake in this situation is that it would be even easier to fake than any TG bottle because there's no wax involved. That's a fairly standard gold cap Westbrook uses and the crimping is no different than a home bottle capper would be able to manage unless it has the telltale circle from excess crimping force. I think we unfortunately have to assume any major bottle traded with this guy was consumed, refilled with shelf beer and recapped.

 

Honestly, what really could they do? Or for that matter why or what benefit would they get involved in something on a small scale like this. Beers were traded through mail trades.

This is pretty disgusting all around.

One thing does make more sense after reading this: there were reports of Assassin trading 1:1 for Vanilla Rye in another thread, which seemed really far off, even with the current Vanilla/Prop craze in full swing. Now we know that @Leazk was the basis for at least two (and maybe all?) of these, and the trades make much more sense!

 

They should be able to pursue this under existing counterfeiting laws. Even small stuff like this can have serious repercussions on the perceived quality of their beers & their brand.

That the guy's identity is known & that he lives in the US and is probably breaking other alcohol related laws (which to be fair, traders altogether may be doing) may help if they decide to pursue legal action.

If he really is moving, watch out for new Chicago traders as I know that's where he was originally from before coming to Iowa for school. This was the same guy I saw change clothes and get back in line for a second Assassin at a shop in Coralville. This takes the cake for the lowest thing I have ever heard.
