Every year (until this year -- there babies go again, ruining the fun!) eight of us, including my wife and I, have rented a place in Maine so we can basically live like kings. We have a fire place, a grill, the dogs, and coolers full of delicious beers. Think: Lots of Hill Farmstead, Eclipse, etc. Just name dropping now. It's our time to break out something special, spend a little more, etc.

Anyway, we're not doing it this year, and money's tight since the baby came, so what's everyone ELSE drinking this year? Busting out some special beers?

I'm thinking of splurging on one big bomber -- while consuming some of the Christmas leftovers -- any recommendations? Big double IPA's, big stouts?

My go-to for the past 2 New Year's has been Enlightenment's brut. It's usually priced at around $17/bottle. It's a great beer for a special occasion -- especially New Year's. Pour it in a champagne flute (that's proper glassware for this style) and enjoy it leisurely.

If you're looking for a great stout, there are two seasonals out now that you just can't go wrong with. Both are available in 22 oz. bombers:
--Pretty Things Barbapapa russian imperial stout
--Cambridge Brewing Company You Enjoy My Stout

I was thinking of getting an Enlightenment as well, but am going with some fresh Trillium instead. Splitting a bomber of Heavy Mettle and Broken Angel with my gf, and will then crack some of the brews I got as xmas gifts when she inevitably moves onto wine.

Going to a New England Brewing Beer Dinner. Then some Tree House Harmony and we will see where the night goes from there. Watch out cellar!

Will do. My wife and I did a Sip v. Heady tasting last week (2nd F hasn't arrived yet) and thought that Heady was slight more balanced. Splitting hairs though. Can't wait to try 2nd F. We love Mastermind!

Nothing special for me. I'll go to sparkling wine later in the evening, but before that just whatever is in the fridge. Brown Shugga should do the trick I'm thinking.

On Sunday night, we did a sip of sunshine v. 2nd fiddle v. heady v. on the wings of armageddon. I was with Heady (2nd fiddle real close though) and the wife went with sip of sunshine.

So for NYE we have those 4 plus will be opening HF Florence and maybe Edith depending what our guests bring.

I was thinking of doing an Evil Twin Jesus flight (More, Less, Cafe, Double Barrel), but that might have been more fitting on Christmas.

I'm not trying to get too hammered so I reloaded on AV Blood Orange Gose and picked up some Almanac Farmer's Reserve (Blackberry, Pluot) that I might share.

I was eyeballing those two last time I was at my local. Think I will grab one of them tomorrow. As I recall the CBC was $2-3 more expensive. Have you found the same?

I was hoping to spend the night cracking some bombers with the wife, but she wheedled me into a Coors Light keg party at her friends' in the North End, so I'll be saving the Pretty Things Meadowlark and Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher for drinking during college football games tomorrow!

I'll second the suggestion for Enlightenment's Brut - great beer, perfect for NYE.

Me? I'll be drinking through Armsby Abbey's tap list tonight, though I can already see myself ordering bottles of 3F. Wife and I have a hotel room around the corner so my Armsby tab at the end of the night will be higher than my oil bill :grimacing:

Yeah, You Enjoy My Stout is more expensive than Barbapapa (which I usually find for around $7.50 -- a fantastic price). I bought my 2 bottles of CBC directly at the brewpub, but I can't remember what they were priced at. Maybe $10?

Probably a JA Baby Maker or Coffee and Vanilla Framinghammers. Hopefully the Baby Maker has aged well.

while sitting in front of my computer at work, I just decided "screw it! I'm drinking something good tonight". think it's going to be La Tache, FFaC & BA Narwhal.
