I had two bombers of the 12/26. Sorry, my taste buds or smell sense (along with other people's, don't pick up the onion) It was mild humor. Sorry to offend. I guess it's why some people like certain food and drink and other don't. We all are sensitive to different things. I've wanted to smell the onion some people mention. The only way I could smell onion in it is if someone randalled Enjoy By through diced onions. Cheers.

Yeah- that does seem to be a sensitivity issue. Only some people perceive it as 'onion'; to me it comes across as kind of weed-y and dank. It's very much like how some people perceive cilantro as 'soapy'.

I'd say return them and have the market contact Stone as well. I've had it on tap since I live in SD and I've had 2 bottles of the 2.14.15 and they were fantastic. Sorry to hear that you had bad bottles. Hope it gets resolved.

Had it via keg finally the other day and I agree; for me, it's the best batch they've put out. The onion/chivey thing doesn't hit home in this one but I do finally understand the "catpiss" thing and I pretty much enjoyed that!

Take this fight to the street!

I rate pretty generously, as well, unless its Laughing Dog or OBP garbage.

Greg Koch, Stone co-founder, stated that they haven't changed the recipe for Enjoy By since September 2013.

Here's the post from Greg I'm referencing, from December 22nd, 2014.

I've had maybe 5 different bottlings of Enjoy By and while some I liked more than others, they have all been great. It really tells you that freshness is sometimes the only thing between a great IPA and just an okay one.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm certainly suggesting wholesale changes. It's just slight changes in overall balance that seem to fall within the normal range of batch variation (especially when lots of hops are a main driver in the profile).

Had one yesterday and found it to be the best enjoy by to date. Hope you get a good one... This is such a good beer that doesn't deserve to be on any blacklist.

In my experience there is batch-batch variation. This one has stronger citrus notes, not as dank as some of the batches (yes I'm using that as an adjective for those who object be damned), and no hints of onion. I like it, consuming my second bottle now. To each their own. Cheers!

I think I've gotten every batch of Enjoy By for maybe the last year and they've always been top notch. Never a bad batch.

It tasted fantastic to me. Maybe because there was no need to wait in line for it or trade for it that it tasted poor. Please.

    And my response to Greg:

I always appreciate when @@StoneGreg takes time from his busy schedule to contribute to BA discussions. Merry Christmas Greg!!

The ‘challenge’ with hops (and hop forward beers) is that hop characteristics/qualities will vary on where the hops are grown (a terroir effect akin to wine grapes), the particular hop crop, the time they are harvested in a given crop year (early harvest, late harvest, etc.), … There is lots of great information in the book For the Love of Hops by Stan Hieronymus.

In a beer like Enjoy By which utilizes such a large number of hop varieties (vs. a beer like SNPA which uses just three varieties; Magnum & Perle for bittering and Cascades for finishing) the aspects detailed above can indeed have an noticeable impact on the aroma/flavor of a given release of Enjoy By beer.

I personally would not use the words “profound” or “major” to describe the differences from batch to batch but I do indeed notice a difference. As others have posted in this thread, the latest release of Enjoy By 12.26.14 was not a favorite of mine; I enjoyed prior releases much better.

    Cheers!

Had two bottles in PA, in which there was no defect present. Thought it was better that the December release, definitely no cabbage.
