Anyone have any idea about this release's hop bill?

I must say, its my least favorite of the ones I've had, the aroma turned me right off.

Having said that, I'm actually happy to finally be identifying a hop (or combination thereof) that I'm not a fan of. I've only been at this for a year or 2, and not the best yet at distinguishing between hop varieties.

Did a quick Google search and came up with this:

Hops bill: Ahtanum, Super Galena, Simcoe, Amarillo, Delta, Target, Calypso, Cascade, Citra, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Helga

I wouldn't expect to be able to pick out individual hops with that many different varieties in there so don't beat yourself up about it. Single-hop IPAs or fresh-hopped IPAs might help you learn to distinguish between them more.

I've only had a few of them, but absolutely loved this one. So fruity and juicy.

I think it's basically the same recipe for each batch too.

There has been great debate about whether or not the beer changes from one release to the next. I mean like, A LOT of debate. For the most part, it stays the same but from time to time they'll make small adjustments (based on availability of hops, I think) which can cause some variation in taste. To wit...

EB 09.21.12 hops: Calypso during the mash; Super Galena hop extract for bittering; Simcoe, Delta, Target, and Amarillo for flavor; Motueka, Citra, and Cascade for aroma; Nelson Sauvin and Galaxy for dry hopping

EB 07.04.14 hops: Ahtanum, Super Galena, Simcoe, Amarillo, Delta, Target, Calypso, Cascade, Citra, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Helga

I thought the last two bottlings were less oniony/garlicy that most recent ones and the last one (12.26.14) especially fruity, but other people scoff and say it's the same beer every time--it's not, just mostly so.

I liked the 12.26.14 version of Enjoy By. Seemed fruitier than the 7.04.14, which is the only other one I have tried. Both were excellent and definitely different.

I'm in agreement with both of you. I've had most of the Enjoy Bys that have been distributed to Illinois. I split them with a friend, and we both felt that 7-4 was our least favorite, and 12-26 was the best one we can remember.

12-26-14 is definitely my favorite Enjoy By… But I LOVE them all! Thanks SoCal for posting the hop bill - saves me a google search between wrapping presents

12-26 is pretty good, but there are so many really great IPA's on the market right here.

Greg has posted on this site that the beer is brewed almost exactly the same way every time (paraphrasing).

People's perceptions of some versions being better than others is more likely due to the many factors that make all beers taste different to the same person at different times.

I agree with all the negative comments on this round of Enjoy By. I bought 6 bottles. I wish I had bought 2. The problem is, you need to buy them when you see them! You really can't afford to buy one, try it, and go for more if you like it. It is a real gamble in Pittsburgh! Way boozy. This is not the classic West Coast DIPA we have come to love in the product. Still good.... Just not the 4/20 version we all long for!

This one struck me as a little bit sweeter, and probably smoother. Maybe it's because I (shockingly) got to have it about 2 weeks prior to the Enjoy By date (rare for me). I'm thinking it was just a much more prominent showing by the malt bill, for whatever reason.

I don't think it was a recipe tweak; just that it seemed smoother and sweeter than normal (it is a pretty sweet DIPA normally, though). I didn't get a noticeably different or prominent showing from the hops. And I've never gotten that onion/garlic flavor from any edition, so there's that.

I could have sworn I googled it already, but maybe not....thanks SoCal, I try to research first before asking. Might have been drunk.

Usually I'm happy with any fresh IPA, regardless of a particular hop/hop combo, so I find it odd (and somewhat exciting) that I actually had an opinion.

Now I just have to figure out what the fuck flavor/aroma it is exactly.

It could also just be that my senses have perked up since the 7/04/14 release.

    This.

I'll fully acknowledge that this could be true, as a 'novice' craft drinker. I think its interesting that what one perceives as a change on the outside might just be a change from within themselves.

Its one of the things I love about craft.

4/20/14 is by far the best one they have produced. Everything before that was near that quality as well. However to me ever since this beer fell off a lot. I went from a near 5.0 rating for 4/20/14 and now have dropped it to 4 or less. This was my favorite IPA now I don't even think it cracks the top 5 maybe 10.

Mitch Steele said at a talk, it has many hard to find hops late and in dry hopping, which will change due to availability.

One of their reps confirmed that the hop bill has 13 different varieties, but the ratio changes with each release depending on what's available.

12-26-14 wasn't as good as 10-31-14. Around here, you can always tell when Stone's hop choice / ratio / mix is unpopular because the Enjoy By sits around on the shelves. Sometimes they nail it and the stuff sells out quickly and other times... well... not so much.

I am in the camp of not liking it as much as prior releases. Smell didn't grab me like before. It did seem a bit mellowed on taste and wife liked it.

It is really interesting to see how wildly different each of our palates are because I thought the EXACT opposite for each of the aforementioned releases. My favorites thus far have been: 02.13.13, 4.20.4 and 12.26.14.
