This pours a murky light yellow with very little head. As weird as it sounds I actually smell a cracker type of smell along with a salt/sour smell very similar to the westbrook gose I had earlier. This one is hard for me to pinpoint the description of the taste…I pick up some subtle orange and citrus along with a bread like flavor. The feel is a crisp and refreshing easy drinking beer! Overall pretty solid, nothing too special, but I'm very thankful to get to try something from Cigar City.

Maybe I shouldn't have had a few 6 beers earlier. But damn plowing is hat work and I deserved em. !![IMG]

After shoveling all the snow slush, and ice off the driveway it was time for this one. I love Long Trail and this was a great beer. My first sip was a little harsh with the whiskey but after that I guess my whiskey receptors were blown out and it seemed much more subtle. If you can find this one get it.

Good evening my friends @ NBS. Hope all is well.
Shoveling water and chopping ice is not fun so I'm really looking forward to post #5.
    Stillwater Artisanal Remix Series
Rio de Sauvin. Tropical Farmhouse Ale brewed w/ mango and passion fruit juice. 7.7% ABV.
A- Golden pale yellow color not unlike that of a pils. Decent head settling to a thin ring with minimal lacing.
S- Tropical fruits mania with mango right on top and faint smell of Belgian yeast character. And a FUNK in a good way.
Nice, can't wait for first sip.
T- Tropical fruits that intermingle with cove. Upon first sip a beautiful funk like pile of hay on a barnyard floor. Finishes tart and crisp like green apple. I'm really enjoying this brew. Reminds me of summer on a farm. A very comforting thought at this time in winter.
M- highly carbonated with tiny disappearing bubbles. Crisp and thirst quenching.
O- Great bottle art. This is my first from Stillwater Remix Series. They went out of the box and for me it really works. The tropical fruits and crispness really balance out the Belgian yeast characters that for me are sometimes cloying.
A well made beer I could drink in summer, worth every penny IMHO.
And speaking of out of the box I'm going with the master of 12 string detuned guitar. I still listen and think he has an extra finger on each hand.
As always thanks for listening and Cheers my friends![IMG]

New Beer Sunday: Tribute to a Tripel

Greetings NBSers, with special greetings to all those who Take the Time to pay Tribute to Belgian-style Tripels.

Around here in SE PA this was the warmest day we’ve seen in weeks. There was a heavy wet snow yesterday that has been melting like mad so the driveway and sidewalks are actually dry. Which is a good thing since we’re back below freezing tonight for about another week. Ran some errands today and polished off the “honey-do” list in plenty of time to get tonight’s new beer reviewed before the Oscar Ceremonies begin. The new beer today is called Tribute Triple from the Neshaminy Creek Brewing which is local to us.

The review appears here: (and is subject to revision as I get further along with the beer)

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29021/83522/?ba=drtth

Tonight’s musical interlude involves listening to a Beethoven Trio performed by 3 world class musicians.

Happy 10 (official :astonished:) years NBS!!
Hope everyone's day was and is going great! Spent the morning shoveling and subsequently locking the wife's keys in her van! What a fun time with the local police and a friend breaking into my own car with some plastic wedges and a wire coat hanger! :stuck_out_tongue:
So today's entry which also happens to be beer #500 for me :grinning: comes from a Spring House Brewing out of Lancaster, PA; you know where all the Amish live! This was the last one on the shelf at Wegman's when I stopped by the other day, and the label on the shelf was incorrect as well, which said it was the Atomic Raygun, there Imperial Red Ale.

Upon opening: had a a great aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon out of the bottle when the cap was popped! Poured into the glass and more vanilla and cinnamon comes out!
Used motor oil black body, no light coming through this bad boy at all! Beautiful tan head leaving some long strips of lacing in the glass.
Taste? Taste you ask? Just really tasty with tons of chocolate up front, then vanilla with a nice wave of cinnamon and finishes with some of that habanero burn; not enough though to be a hindrance just enough to add character.
The mouthfeel is a little thin though for me, expected it to have more of a lingering tongue coating roasty feel.
Overall, I think this is a terrific beer! I thought that perhaps the addition of all those adjuncts, while sounding great, might not work together, but the bottle I have is really showing some balance between everything.

    Cheers Big Ears!

    New Maryland Brewery IPA Sunday!

Work day was smooth, fast and damn enjoyable. No complaints this time! Now, on to the beer!

Burley Oak's - Aboriginal Gangster IPA

I'm going to keep it real and to the point! This brew is pretty banging. You guys can see how it looks, so I'm not going into depth over the appearance. The aroma is like smelling Summer Time! Orange citrus with some sweet floral tones. No alcohol just a bowl full of citrus fruits and a mild passion fruit juice sweetness. Now for the flavor! This tastes like the aroma, full blown citrus (Oranges and Lime making love on my tastebuds). Some sweet malts balances it out with a passion fruit flavor before it finishes. Also a floral kiss evens things up a bit, adding a touch of diversity. This finishes sweet and semi-dry with a nice bitter touch. The feel on this brew is medium smooth bodied and carbonation on point!

Overall: Is this my favorite IPA? No. Do the scores on this site represent it's goodness? Hell no! This is a great IPA, this has the same quality as White Rajah and Jai Alai. The passion fruit aftertaste is mind boggling. This brew is balanced and not as bitter as some in its class. This is a clean bitterness and accents the malt sweetness. I'd bang this on repeat, no condoms! This brew is Recommended!

    Grade: Easy A!

Good afternoon and congrats on 10 years! After 4" of snow last night, today is the warmest it's been in weeks. At 44 degrees it feels downright balmy outside. I had a few hours to myself today and decided to take a ride down to a brewery I've been wanting to check out, Neshaminy Creek Brewing in PA.

Their tasting room, which just opened a few months ago, is a great space to hang and enjoy a few brews. There is a decent sized bar with a few picnic tables, air hockey, foosball, arcade games and big screen that they were showing the Flyers game on.

Since I ordered a flight, my NBS entry actually consists of four new beers.

From L to R: Croydon Cream Ale, Trauger Pilsner, Tribute Tripel, J.A.W.N. (Juicy Ale With Nugget).

I won't go through full reviews of each one but the Cream Ale and J.A.W.N. were my favorites. The Cream Ale was smooth, balanced, and incredibly drinkable. J.A.W.N., a pale ale, had a great tropical fruit aroma from the hops. It was pungent but not overly hopped.

I grabbed a six pack of the Churchville Lager on my way out and plan to have one of those with dinner tonight. Cool, laid back tasting room and everyone working there was very friendly. I'll be picking up more beer in the future. Cheers!

Wow! Ten years already. I think I came in near the end of year one. Time flies when you are having fun.

Today I'm having fun with Bleating Red Ale from Iron Goat. I got a jug of this at the tap room on Friday. Not a new beer, but first opportunity to rate, so it counts.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29334/84616/

I've come to really appreciate this brewery, not just because it is the closest craft beer establishment to my office, but because the beers are very good. I learned yesterday they will be moving closer to downtown. It won't be as convenient, but I suspect I'll still find my way to their door.

Last Sunday in February, and I'm always glad to see February go. This February in the northwest has been nothing compared to the folks back east, and if you are up to your arm pits in snow you have my sympathy.

A pretty day today, sunny but brisk, with temps only into the mid 40's. If you look closely at my beer pick you can see a hint of green grass in the background, as well as the first tulip sprout just to the left of the label. Spring is indeed just around the corner.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails.

and for your viewing pleasure, here is my drunken review of the beer!

This pours a nice amber color with about a two finger head and has a trace of lacing. Smell is of vanilla, cherry, and sweet malt. The taste is pretty much the same as the smell. Creamy vanilla, some cherry spice, almost a creamsicle like taste to be honest. The feel is of a sweet beer that really lingers on the tongue after each sip. Quite smooth for 11% and does not disappoint whatsoever!

Highly bottle conditioned (ancient in IPA terms) but the hops were still present in the nose and maybe toned down but let the malt put up a fight. Rye is a bit tricky for me to pick up on but that may be me.

What's up NBS players. Nice sunshine day that closed in on the 40s here on the island. Also resulted in a wet and slushy mess. Spent the day on the north fork visiting a vineyard with my fiancé. No traffic at all and pretty much had the place to ourselves.

On the way home we hit up Greenport Harbors second brewery in peconic ny. Grabbed a howler of their Pilsner and that is my new beer for today. I've been working on this for the past hour or so and just about to finish it.

Pours out a lovely straw gold with perfect clarity. I can see right through it as a sort of beer lens on the world. Nice lacing follows with a subtle nose of grass, bread, and hops.
The taste hits with a very light burst. Smooth, crisp, and refreshing with a slight hoppy finish. Subtle flavors of bread/cracker and grass come out as it warms. The mouth feel is pretty light and even a bit thin. This is really where I find it falls off. Being a homer, I really want to love this beer but it's just not delivering for me. A solid brew and take of a german pilsner but nothing great,

750 ml bottle poured into a Belgian style tulip Year 2014

A: Dark brown, tan head, really murky, cloudy, not much head, lots of tiny bubbles, some minor lacing.

A: Slight bourbon, oak, rye aromas on the nose, definitely picking up the barley wine characteristics, caramel malts, booze, not a lot on big aromas, very nuanced, mellow.

T: Slight bourbon, oak, rye, caramel, toffee, sugar flavors, picking up the heat, it finishes really dry, the rye spice lingers with some hop bitterness, straight out the fridge it's really bitter but as it warms the bitterness subsides but still awkwardly bitter.

    M: Medium body, dry finish

O: I was expecting more from this beer, but it has a rye spice hop bitterness flavor that I don't typically get in a barley wine. Maybe it's from the rye barrels and the addition of four hops and the dry hopping. It's not bad but there are better barley wines out there, even non BA barley wines, it's complex but it is not smooth and easy drinking.
