Good late afternoon NBS'ers. I was sick for the last 5 days, but felt good last night, but saved beer time for today. I've seen this buried in the back of a local store, decided to finally give it a try. Wish I had earlier.
The color was a beautiful black with very light tones of brown, smelled beautiful, bit of sweet chocolate, tasted even better. The raisins are definitely there as well as other dark fruit flavors, nice roasty finish...Loved it. Can't wait to try more from this series. Cheers!

I hate a hoppy Barley Wine that isn't Bigfoot. It's either be a Malt and Barrel Bomb, or be a Hop/Malt Bomb. Don't try to be a trifecta of Malt/Barrel/Hop Bomb.

I think you nailed the confusion my palate was experiencing. It's rye spicy, hop bitter, caramel malty. I love Bigfoot, it's hoppy bitter with a nice caramel malt finish.

    New Munich Helles Lager Sunday

Hello all! Today's beer isn't from Munich - but, it might as well have been! Southern Tier did a great job with Where the Helles Summer? (Which, by the way, I want to know.) Too cold here in Milwaukee...but my friends and family tell me it's cold back home in New Jersey, too (and a bit icy on top of it - which it isn't here).

Anyway, Southern Tier made another winner. I'm glad that it is distributed here - I would have missed it!

Really right on style, and shows that a good, solid light-bodied lager that is made well can be great year round.

First time for me, and I'm incredibly impressed! Big bourbon on the nose. Also getting lots of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Taste is out of this world. The coffee is amazing - probably nicer than Bourbon County coffee for me. Overall, just amazing stuff. Glad I got to try it. This has been a great new beer Sunday for me!

If you can find the Dawn of Aurora get it. That one is little harder to find but it is worth it.

I'm hitting double digits in the beer drinking category today my friends!

This pours a heavy black color with a small head and doesn't really have much lacing whatsoever. On the nose I get almost all lemon peel. The taste is of lemon, some chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of coffee. The taste is very bitter but still works nicely. The feel of this beer is a fairly light stout that really is dominated by the lemon peel. I enjoyed this beer without a doubt, but still a little perplexed why they decided on including lemon as an ingredient. A very interesting beer to say the least!

I like the photo. I think I'll steal that idea, as we, of course, have plenty of snow here.

    Serpent's Stout
    The Lost Abbey
American Double / Imperial Stout / 11.00% ABV
    4.27/5 rDev +0.9% | rAvg: 4.23
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

750 ml bottle poured into The Lost Abbey teku glass this beer purchased February 14, 2015

A: Pitch black, no light coming through, nice creamy mocha fluffy head, lovely lacing, lots of tiny bubbles streaming up the glass's side, poured like oil out of the bottle, looks really good.

A: Right up front, big coffee dark chocolate aromas, picking up some slight dark fruit aromas, smells great.

T: Like the nose, big coffee dark chocolate flavors, getting some dark fruit flavors in the middle, finishes with a lingering coffee chocolate bitterness, tastes great.

M: Nice creamy medium mouthfeel, very fluffy, almost Belgian quad like, finishes with a really dry coffee like mouthfeel.

O: Very impressed. I've tasted about 4-5 Lost Abbey beers within the last month and all but one has impressed me. Serpent's Stout falls in this category. This is a big coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruit, dry finishing stout. Very drinkable for 11%. Definitely going to pick up a few bottles to cellar. My only complaint is that I wish Lost Abbey would package their beers in 4 or 6 packs.

    New Fruit Lambic Sunday!

This brew is phenomenal! You get the Cranberries in the aroma with some yeast funk, very acidic. The flavor is just as wicked! First is cranberries with a tart sourness that's refreshing and satisfying. Second is some yeast funk that is blanketed by grain sweetness. This finishes dry with some lacto funk in the aftertaste. Feel is light with that Belgian carbonation.

Overall: I don't look at BA scores when I purchase a beer for NBS. This one is enjoyable in the "Sour" category. It says what it is and delivers! Can't argue with it, it's a to the point fruit brew. Would I bang again? Yes! This thing is what I look for in a fruit lambic/wild ale. Mikkeller shitting on the Wild/Lambic Walez! This brew is Recommended!

    Grade: A+

From NBS BIF courtesy of @beertunes .
I've been saving this for a wintery cold NBS and today is the day. For a bitter cold week, today's 15 degrees feels balmy.

Solid looking beer. Minimal head. Smell is similar of the taste. It's smoky and full of licorice. Hints of bitter chocolate too. I expect a more silky mouthfeel from an oatmeal stout but it's not bad. A decent stout that fits the bill for a cold weather warmer.

Took the wife to Outback for dinner tonight with some possible wintry mix coming again overnight, and now it's time for a new beer on this anniversary edition of NBS.

Today's selection is Central Waters Sixteen which comes to me thanks to @egrace84. An anniversary beer to go along with the theme of the day.

Everything I've tried from CW so far has been top notch, and this is no exception. This is a wonderful BA stout, and one of my favorites for sure. Aroma and flavors remind me of BCBS, but not as thick. Lots of bourbon and barrel, nice complexities.

Haven't been very active on this forum lately, drinking mostly home-brew! A club member recently moved from Florida to California, and on a recent visit brought a present. I've had a few Ballast Point brews, and love Sculpin. Fathom was an unexpected treat. Cheers!

Happy Sunday everyone! The plan tonight is to knock out the last 2 beers that @superspak sent me as part of the NBS BIF. I'm also roasting some prime rib in the oven for dinner, maybe I can snap a finished pic of that for the 2nd beer.

First up though is Oddside Ales Beautiful Disaster:

This is a really surprising beer, starts off slightly hoppy but then the wine barrels take over. Slightly sweet with a nice dry finish, I really enjoyed this one!

No picture this time, but the local brewery Four Fathers posted that they put up their Imperial Milk Stout, Sloth Love Chunk. Now I love stouts. And I love milk stout. But this one I had heard about from the brewers. It's modeled after a Baby Ruth bar. Holy Crap.

    Onto the review...

Pours nice and dark. Slight brown coloring on the edges. No much head. Smell is awesome. Malted milk balls, slight peanut butter, semisweet chocolate. Mouth watering.

Taste follows the nose. I immediately thought malted milk balls. Someone else said it was like the melted soup of vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Chocolate, peanuts, caramel, nougat. Damn. This thing is good. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy.

I was expecting a lot from this beer, and it delivers. Blew away my expectations. Absolutely amazing beer.

It's a Boulevard night for me. Tank 7 isn't new but I love it. It's really a lovely Saison, and it feels like it sort of straddles traditional and modern interpretations. It's rustic and subtle but still with some big lemony note to it and a nice bite, and the dryness is excellent. The Sixth Glass is a new one to me, and I'm just about to pour it down my gullet and see how I like it. Boulveard just started distributing to my part of Ohio, if not the entire state, and that makes me happy.
