I had the pleasure of getting my hands on some KBS and Sunday Morning Stout this year, but unfortunately all the stores in my area (Chapel Hill/Durham) sold out of both on the day they were released. I am pretty inexperienced with Stouts, so I was hoping BA would have some recommendations of similar beers that are easy to find/available year round.

Sierra Nevada's Narwhal is an excellent, easily obtainable stout. Not the same as KBS but very tasty nonetheless. Maybe some BAs local to you can give more options.

Not sure if you guys get Stone often, but Stone's Russian Imperial Stout is great. I would also suggest Bell's Expedition Stout (It's by far my favorite). Alesmith Speedway is also awesome as well as Modern Times Blackhouse and Monsters' Park.

These are just a few suggestions.

According to SeekABrew you get limited Coronado distribution. If you see their Stupid Stout you may want to try one. I was pleasantly surprised.

If you get Clown Shoes (seekabrew says limited) then try Crasher in the Rye. Very nice beer. Many of their BA stouts are very good.

Lagunitas recently released a Westified coffee stout that I thought was pretty good too.

New Holland Dragon's Milk is produced year round and available in NC. I believe this one could definitely rival KBS and BCBS in terms of hype if only it were more expensive and difficult to get.

Typically I would not recommend any Lagunitas products for the fact (and I know I'll get sh*t for this) but they are a one trick pony. They brew average beer for hipsters that the hype overwhelms tiny brains into thinking it's great...

That being said get as many bottles of the Westified Imperial Coffee Barrel aged you can get your hands on!

    The PRICE:FLAVOR ratio is excellent

1 - Palo Santo Marron - Dogfish Head->Technically an 'Imperial Brown Ale,' but whatever. It is black, 12%ABV and aged on Palo Santo wood...this is hands down, the best year-round offering of a wood aged beer
2 - Tiny - Weyerbacher->It is their Imperial Stout fermented with Belgian yeast and available year-round (and recently released in 4-Packs)
3 - Victory At Sea - Ballast Point->Technically a porter, but being tha it is brewed with coffee and vanilla beans, it is every bit as decadent as SMS and KBS (and 10% ABV too!)
4 - Imperial Stout (or) Cappuccino Stout - Lagunitas->The former is Year-Round and the latter is Seasonal
    5 - Double Stout - Green Flash

I'd have to agree with these as well. Very solid shelf beers.

Bell's Kalamazoo and Expedition. Excellent, excellent single and double stouts, respectively.

Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, just really well balanced and you can go from their whether you want a more Belgian-yeasty style stout or a more peaty, smoky one.
