I'll second this. Just had one earlier this afternoon.

I also like Sam Adams Double Bock and Aecht Schlenkerla Eicha and highly recommend them...

My absolute favorite Doppelbock is Celebrator but I don’t drink it too often since it is so damn expensive.

I think Andechs is good but it is also too damn expensive.

My second favorite Doppelbock is Victory St. Victorious. Unfortunately I have only seen it in tap at the Victory Brewpub this year.

I have had a fair amount of Troegs Troegenator; it is very tasty and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

    Cheers!

Surprised Celebrator is so expensive in PA....only about $9.99 a 4 pk here

A great beer, and one of my favorites!

15 bucks a 4-pack at my local beer retailers.

    Non-Cheers to those prices!

P.S. I can get 4-packs of Troegenator (16 oz. cans) for $8-9 though. Cheers to Troegs!!!!

This thread made me realize how many great examples of this style are available to me (and many others). It might be the most well representated style of German lager in the US.

Gotta remember Andechs was not available state side for many years until recently. I really like Celebrator. I am blown away by Andechs. It just fits what I like in a doppel....big bready, dark fruits

I did leave some headroom when I reviewed Celebrator, I didn't give it all 5's back in June of 2002. I will have to look for this Andechs, and give it a go.

Thomas Hooker Liberator is a great example of the style though I don't think it leaves Connecticut much
