?

Split the bottle/cost or buy it solo?

It's sub 7%. I had an off-thread discussion with another BA, and he says he sees the beer at $18-20 near him, so maybe it's a local pricing thing?

Your at a bar, you have $3. I pint of a really nice beer is $6 and a pint of Bud is $3. Bartender says he will sell you a half pint of the nice beer for $3. What do you do? Sometimes it isn't the cost of the beer, it is what you are willing to pay. Obviously $26 for a 750 ML has broken that mental barrier. But on the other hand $13 for 330ml has not. Split the beer, most beers in that format are made to be shared. (And you haven't given up on your mental pricing limits).

Will you please cut & paste your statement into the 35 other threads about the price of beer?

    TY.

    How about this:
Just buy it yourself and share it with your buddy

    Split it.

Crossing one's price per oz limit is a very slippery slope that's best avoided, but it's clear that you really want to make an exception or you wouldn't have this thread. Cost to play should be factored in, and splitting the bottle is obviously better in this regard. In fact, since one should expect price per oz to increase with a smaller volume, splitting a bottle looks even better. You are also buying into the moment of sharing the beer - sounds fun. You might not have another opportunity to buy the beer in this split fashion. Take advantage of it. Once you've tried it, you can determine if it's worth it for you to buy a whole bottle for yourself.

Having said that, I have yet to see a bottle of beer that would make me part with $30. Seems like many comments here indicate that a decent amount of beer fans have a higher threshold than that. If the past is any indication, it's only a matter of time until I cross that threshold - but I hope it's not the case. I still stand by "split it."

so I love bourbon aged stouts but if there was one I came across for $30 and I had not had it and I checked the advocate rating and it was below 90 I would skip

Is it just me, or is "I am not going to tell you what beer it is" thing incredibly annoying?

If I had mentioned the beer, the thread would have just been "that beer sucks bro" vs "that beer is so awesome, I would give them a baby for one bro" kind of deal. There's been some interesting thoughts, which is the main point of the thread.

If you're losing sleep over a $27 bottle of beer, you are doing BA wrong.

No stress, just trying to decide if the beer is "worth" that price, to me. Thought I would get a few other thoughts on the topic.

Your question is kind of like "how fast would you drive your car"

-to the hospital - very fast
-late for work - pretty fast
-to go to the store - regular speed

Since you've now stated what the beer is, I think it's appropriate for me to post here for the record (as you already know per our private discussion) that that price is way out of line for this beer. I'll be happy to grab you some soon for no more than $20 per 750, possibly less. My turn to reciprocate your past acts of generous beer advocacy.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Go for the split. If you like it enough then just get a bottle yourself next time you see it.
