Okay, Abbey Ale = Dubbel, especially at 8% ABV. Ommegang Abbey Style is a Dubbel, New Belgium Abbey is a Dubbel as well and many others. "Abbey-style ale, inspired by monastic brewing traditions." Everything screams that it's a Dubbel. I'm not here to argue, just trying to prove my point.

We see your frustration in the taxonomy here. We wish we could make it easier on you by neatly placing all of our beers in predetermined categories, but unfortunately it does not work that easily for us! We want to make formulations that are distinctive and within the authentic character of the Mad Scientists. It is a tight line to walk.

We have been making the Abigale for over 10 years, and we never really considered it a dubbel (although hardcore fans might remember the Encore from 2005 - probably our closest beer to resemble a dubbel).

It might not be for all, but @Phigg1102, @Chris585, @monkeybeerbelly, @leantom, @Mikus, @Kadonny, @hopsputin and @admiral seemed to enjoyed it.

Sounds like you might be more inclined to like a beer like 4Beans, which has a much more subdued hop character, and plays up the body/malt/chocolate/vanilla notes. Based upon your inclinations, that seems like the best one for you. That or perhaps the bourbon-barrel aged 3Beans. Ever have a bourbon barrel-aged rauchbier? We do that too - very limited quantity, draft only. Good stuff!

    cheers!

Excited to see 3Beans (4Beans, even better) make a come back. I absolutely love fresh crisp (it is my fridge go to beer now) and fresh resin, they are outstanding beers that do not get enough praise. I also loved goser the goserian (I think jammer 2.0 will be similar so hopeful on that) I also enjoyed the single hops spice of life, the nelson in particular.

And that, in bold, is why I personally alternate between seething venomous hatred and lightless black despair regarding the love affair non-supertasters have with extreme hops. That beer sounds like a sheetcake of victory and triumph, an example of a brewery doing experiments other than "what happens when I combine this hop with this one", and I'll never see it anywhere near me. But I'll see 8000 IPAs, alongside stuff that's 20 IBUs but undrinkable (like "hoppy wheat ale").

That said, reality is what it is, and market forces are what they are. At least non-hop-forward sours are growing in popularity, and I have the ability to drink some massively IBUed beers as long as they're high enough in gravity and have enough other things going on that the hops are just a slight accent as opposed to the focal point.

My favorite Sixpoint beer? Jammer. The first batch. Light, subtle, with some interesting minerality present from the salt, which took center stage. That said, I'll probably try Jammer 2.0 as well, since I also enjoy tart goses.

One thing that I have learned from trying Sixpoint brews is NOT to go in with predetermined idea of what to expect. This is one of the best things about Sixpoint, and craft beer in general. When I want a dubbel, I will look in the Belgian section (for the most part), when I want a mad scientists interpretation of a style, I will reach for a Sixpoint. I haven't been let down yet!

Yeah the first Abigale I tried, I thought it was supposed to be like a hoppy dubbel, and it wasn't. And I didn't like it. But by the end of the sixpack, after I'd let go of my preconceived notions for the product, I was really throwing them back (I had two in a row one day)!

I might have to say Global Warmer. I've only had it once, but when I did, I think I decided I might like it better than SN Celebration.

Haven't had Abigale yet though, haven't seen it around here.

Shane your posts seem to be getting bigger as time goes on I wonder how long before one of your posts equals 1 page of a thread lol.

I am really looking forward to this beer though. You guys make great IPAs but if that BA Otis I had while I was in Brooklyn is any indication you make even better stouts and by extension porters.

I guess drinking Sixpoint runs in the family this is what my brother did with the sticker you guys sent him after he bought a glass from you. If you ever whip up any disc golf discs with Sixpoint logos he might buy you out (depending on which disc)

That is a happy response. Have I told you lately that I love you...r brewery and beers? And extraordinary community relations? I really wish you sold signs to hang in my mancave.
