    Welcome aboard!

I hear you. Barney Flats is probably still my all time favorite oatmeal stout, and Hop Ottin' was the beer that turned me into a hophead, but I haven't cared for their BB beers, and I like BB beers. The Wild Turkey just seems so unrestrained that it dominated the taste at the expense of the beer. Maybe one that's sat on for a couple of years will mellow nicely, but I'm not a fan of it fresh.

Good Afternoon BA's and NBS'ers. I would like to first say that I really enjoyed last nights simul-cast of MST3K and hope to be apart of more in the future. Thanks to @WineGuy3000 and @TongoRad.

The rain has passed here in Silver Spring, MD yielding to a much cooler, cloudy, direr day which I thrive on. I have another new stout this Sunday to offer my thoughts on, Smauel Smiths Tadcaster Old Brewery - Oatmeal Stout.

I have really grown to enjoy this brewery and they have become one of my anchors when I become fatigued with the complex experimentations of other breweries. I have learned to enjoy the low ABV and the balance of the flavors and, even though I do prefer a thicker feel when it comes to stouts, appreciate the non-cloying aspect of their beers.

This has the tale-tale quick nose of well water that seems to accompany most of their beers I have tried, with more roasted malt and the bread/oat characteristics trailing. Warming reveals a cocoa nose and taste that finishes that is slightly crisp/dry. I'm really glad this is accessible and year round for me to enjoy. My Review, cheers!

At 50°F poured into a clean Nonic Pint glass, palate and nose cleansed.

Appearance: This pours Black but when held eye level there is natural light penetration presenting a Darker Browner tint. There is an index finger of “glittering”, foamy head which dissipates quickly leaving no lacing.

Smell: Initially the nose presents, to me, the usual ancient well water smell followed by roasty, bready malt and as it warms the other usual characteristics of a stout present itself, mainly the cocoa.

Taste: The taste is concurrent with the smell, that of bread, oats and a nice cocoa finish.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a slight crisp, drier feel to it at the back of the throat.

Overall: The balance of the stout flavors and oats are excellent. As a novice I have grown to really appreciate the basic styles brewed right. Samuel Smith’s, as a brewery, is one of my anchors when I become fatigued with the complex experimentations of others. While my only critique is the lack of viscous mouthfeel of their stouts I have learned how to appreciate it. This is another great example Sam Smith which I will keep in my regular rotation throughout the year.

Listening to some Hall & Oates.

I just discovered that my Rushing Duck beer is in fact a collaboration with Finback out of Queens. I'm a big fan of Finback so that makes me love this beer even more. It also explains the name of the beer.

I'll have to give some other BB stouts a try then I see from most of the rating and reviews its not the best BB
    Out there.
Any you could recommend for someone getting into the style?

In basketball camps as a kid, later in junior high, then high school. We had a helluva group of players back then and it was big fun. I went on to play at Richmond, was injured, but had a wonderful experience and remain connected to my old friends.

That's tricky. Most of the ones I've had were local, and not distributed widely, and you are a long way from what I would consider local! One that's widely distributed and a lot of people are into is Goose Island's Bourbon County Brand Stout (usually referred to here as BCBS).

I've never had a chance to try it, but if you look at the numbers, you can see it's crazy popular, despite the dislike that normally comes with anything associated with Anheiser Busch on this site.

Ommegang Nirvana IPA on tap IMO more of an APA than IPA but a fine beer in any case. Nice floral and pine nose medium body and a slightly bitter finish. Another good beer from a brewery I trust .
Onto not new but first time on tap Sierra Nevada Nooner Pilsener great I the bottle a bit better on tap

This is Truth straight from the can. @WesMantooth is amazing with his beers from mostly Ohio. Jeez! Great beer with a big dry citric note and fresh as hell. I could drink very many of these!

Certainly have heard the hype on that one !
And i love goose islands sofie and Belgian series so will have to give that^ a try...from what I've been told the stuff brewed at their Chicago brewery seems to be of better quality. Not sure how much water that holds haha..thanks tho will give it a Shot. My favorite style is saison/farmhouse or any Belgian style to the most part. Only 21 so still exploring my tastes which to be honest is half the fun!

For a guy that didn't think he'd have time for one today, I'm proud to say that #3 is happening now!

As soon as I began pouring I received a massive mango cloud passing up from the glass, but more on that soon.

As you can see, this has a thick and luxurious white foamy head, very attractive lacing and a delightful hazy golden color.

Now, back to the smell. I mentioned the mango cloud but stick your nose closer and you'll find something between noble hops and vibrancy in the malt bill. Reminds me of the aroma of most any brewery.

Taste is immensely pleasing as the initial taste is of juicy fruit (like, the gum) only with a bitter piney edge that leaves behind a sweetness on the tongue but not overly cloying either. Just a sweet "presence".

    Just good old fashioned delightful!

Saving the rest of the Alien Church for tonight, and after some much needed yard, working my way through some of the other hoppy offerings in the BIF box. Saving the stouts and wee heavy for a future weekend.

This one is Evolution Craft Brewing's Lot #3. My first from this brewery. Thanks to @larryi86 for including it.

Nothing crazy, but this is a very nice straight forward IPA. I could see this being a regular purchase as an everyday beer if I lived in the area.

Only 21 and diggin' the saisons. That's very cool. Practically a metaphor for how far craft brewing has come.

Some great reviews in here today. I made some lunch and moved on to my next new beer, Wicked Weed Oblivion. I'd like to say I think they have some of the best labels. The shape, artwork, even short stories are something to marvel at while sipping on the beer.

The smell is of tart unripe plums along with blackberries, sour apples and some vinegar. A Merlot wine aroma is apparent and I pick up some oak.

Flavor starts off a bit of malt then blasts with tart unripe plums, sour apples, and blackberries. A Merlot wine flavor wraps around the tartness and beings in a bit of oak. Not sour, but a nice sweet and very tart combination. I have enjoyed the couple of AWAs that I have had from this brewery. I would like to try many more.

Love that beer! I regularly get a sixer of that at the grocery store. Though some in the NW forum might decry it (it's a running joke there that we don't want word of good WA beers getting out and becoming "Whalez Bro" beers), I'm glad @kemoarps's presence in this last BIF made it possible for some great Seattle beer to get a little recognition.

    Hey what's going on?

Busy weekend as always, now that the rain has stopped I can get more done outside!

Yard is booming, tomatoes coming, my herbs are doing real well and make for great work and flavors in the kitchen. Regular farmer's market trip this morning and potato salad and some new fresh corn on the cob is up for the making!

Time for a new brew! What's new for our hero today? OOO!! how nice to find this!

    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Opaque and fairly solid chestnut to dull lemon body. Not much carbonation visible except for a little stream in the middle that's hard to see, and a very minor half finger creamy white head. Manages to stay thought with a nice whipped up if small top.

Aroma is quite sharp and bretty on first pour. Real nice garden green herbs of sage and some malt chewy sweetness. Light hints of hay and sweet bakery bread dough. Interesting brett angle that stays away from pepper and hotness, even though it's quite powerful. Some juicy like fruit tones manage to squeak out in a tropical way as well.

Palate brings much of that pleasure. Real juiced and creamy full body on the mouthfeel. Hints of vanilla but quickly takes over in mild sharp flavors of sage, and mint herbality. Chewy finish with and excellent coating, aftertaste comes out in real nice hints of tropical fruits and some grapefruit like bitterness oils to match. Sweet passionfruit and peach mix it up as well, in this fuzzy tasting fruit basket saison, letting some of the nice fruit qualities go all over the place.

Real interesting take on a saison, with a varied fruity angle. Real nice.

Soon. You see my kids are young and daycare is even more expensive than my mortgage. My youngest will start 4K next year so I may have some income to spend on a big box'o beer.
