Years ago,I remember driving across Arizona in the middle of the night, after having dropped off my fiend at a Federal facility in San Diego. He had run into some importation issues. His Dad would not help, but my Dad did. He gave me $500 to get my friend to his new home, his van back to N.C. and mostly to take care of his great Golden Retriever Argus. Somewhere near Yuma, deep in the night, I stopped and found some beer, hosed Argus down, and really felt better after having had such a weird day. I remember that the beer was wet, with a small malt presence, with an odd graininess. I drove across the desert non-stop to New Orleans, and saw things out on the road that night Hunter S. Thompson later described very well.

Ok, so I have to try every Carton beer I can get my hands on, so today being hot, hot hot I thought it would be the perfect time to try their new Berliner Dune Fruit. Didn't get any cans, so I picked up a 32 oz growler.

So it looks great, pale gold. Smells...interesting. A little like when vomit comes up into your mouth (agita) at first, but then actually changes into something more pleasing (thank god). A little salty almost ocean air paired with a vegetal odor. Grows on me. Taste is also...interesting. There's a lot going on here, still get a tiny bit of vomit, but hey, I drank the whole thing, so it really wasn't too bad. The aftertaste is much better. Tart, salty, kind of fruity. Very complex for a 3.9% beer. Not going to get this one ever again, but it is kind of refreshing and intriguing.

Well you happen to be one of the reasons NBS has the qualities you mention, so thank yourself, and get well soon. Give that liver too much of a respite who knows what crazy ideas it will get.

New American Pale Wheat Ale Sunday.

Greetings from another Summer fun day here at the Jersey Shore. It's warm and humid outside. That's ok; early golf, pool time, and now cold beer. What's not to like?

The next shot is from Thursday night. Hot Tuna at the NJPAC in Newark. It was the first time I'd seen them as an electric trio since 1976, flashbacks to the Capitol Theatre shows and the midnight offerings at the Palladium in NYC were alive in my head. It was worth the wait. Jorma brings it at 74 years of age, well done.

Thanks for giving me a minute, all the best!

It's true. I didn't care what beer it was, but I do remember it well. Falstaff, I believe. I was just making a joke. Argus lived to be 16.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not something I would want all of the time, but great as an occasional beer.

Seems like NBS might be a good place to make note of the fact that the poll now running in Beer Talk shows that almost 60% of BA's (who responded) think that reviewing fine beers helps them to enjoy fine beers.

This is a thread that was started to encourage folks to learn to find what it is in beers they liked, try new beers, and share the enjoyment with others. Reviewing beers posted here has always been encouraged. Cheers!

Down to my final handful from the NBS/BIF box from @JNForsyth. Going with the (717) collaboration ale from Pizza Boy/Troegs/Appalachian brewing. It has a canning date of 04/13/15, abv. of 7.17%. Label states local honey, saison yeast and a hint of tartness.

Pours a brilliant deep gold, almost copper color with ample white foam.

    Aromas of spice and floral.

Flavor is pine, clove, and some sourness in the finish.

The feel is very thin and dry.

Decent enough overall on another very humid day along the southern shore, but not my thing. I prefer my IPA's tropical and juicy like fruit from an island. Final 'tick' was around 3.6.

    Enjoy your new beer endeavors.

A Red IPA? Wow, what is it like? Nugget Nectar? Pretty hoppy? American hops?

Come on man, get recalibrated:slight_smile: Otherwise, I may need to kidnap you to Vermont for some Shaun Hill therapy haha.

New American Barleywine Style Ale Sunday!

Pretty nice sunny day here in Northern Utah, around mid 80s. Took a nice little hike. This is not a new beer, but I do like it alot. I did have a few nice new brews during the week though.:grinning: This brew is very nice, maybe someday I will have it on-tap in CO, because it will be a cold day in hell when it will become legal in UT on-tap.:slight_smile::sunglasses::grinning:.

Next up La Cumbre Fievre d'Abricot, a Saison brewed with 1000 pounds of apricots, big thanks to @gatheredwaters for hooking me up!

    4.11/5 rDev -1.4%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

    Thank you gatheredwaters for this
750 ml bottle poured into a teku

A- A hazy bright orange with a massive white head.

S- Sweet malts, some apricots, slightly tart, some yeast and earthy spices.

T- A lot more apricot forward than the nose lets on, real nice tartness, fruity, sweet grainy malts, earthy/spicey yeast, taste has a lot more balance than the nose.

M- Smooth, medium to full body.

O- A nice saison, a little sweeter than I was hoping, but the apricots help balance that out. Very enjoyable, worth seeking. Feel like this could be an awesome beer if the throw it into some wine barrels. (604 characters)

I always thought that this website (when in it's early years) was based on beer reviews in general. Meaning that people really dranked the brew that they reviewed. Giving us an idea what they were having and to share that info to others, that could seek that brew out for themselves to try. Putting up reviews is what is very valuable to others, for sure, well it is to me.

    Cheers!

After a solid nap, I decided to sneak in one more new brew before the ABT tasting at 5. This one is what you might consider a classic IPA, although it has never before landed in my glass: Smuttynose FinestKind.

Beautiful brew, with an incredibly juicy aroma. I get citrus from a distance, and up close, there's an explosion of tropical juices and dank herbs. On the palate, this is a lot tougher to judge; there's a grainy malt presence and a stale cardboard bitterness...but there's still plenty of hoppiness, as well. If this bottle were old, then I wouldn't expect such a lasting hop presence, especially on the aroma.

No link; right now, my beer list isn't displaying any beers. However, I rated it a 4.01 / -2%.

    Cheers!

Edit: reviews are back. Link below.

    New Fruit Beer Sunday

Hello all! Beautiful day here in Milwaukee! Low 80's and sunny! Today's brew is from England - Samuel Smith - Organic Strawberry. I nicely made fruit beer. A great choice for a sweet-leaning strawberry beer. I scored it a 3.86 (only slightly higher than the current average of 3.81). Going outside to enjoy a couple of beers I've already reviewed. Have a great day everyone!
