Good evening NBS friends, and thanks to @cavedave for keeping us focused here.
We are back in WMass from a weekend at the Vermont Brewers Festival.
Those stories and reviews to follow. Needless to say the offerings from the greater area including Quebec
challenged this young fella. On the way out of Burlington we stopped and picked up a few bottles from
Frost Beer Works. they are based in Hinesburg VT.
We shared "Another IPA" the bottle was 4 days old. Flavors were very citrus forward, interestingly the malt base
pushed those aside, and ran a little ahead. This was a bit of a surprise based on the nose. The palate was oily
and quick to dissipate. Carbonation was solid, and cleaned up the edges.
I will seek them out in a few months to see how they are doing. Overall a fine IPA.
    Cheers all

Back with a session IPA from River City, located about a 10 minute walk from me. Had to add it to the database:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34277/182323/?ba=woemad
I got a grunt-fill after having a pint in the tasting room. I'll properly review it later tonight, but for now it was one of the better session IPAs I've had: Semi-clear, amber gold color, citrusy hops and a light body. Preferable to a bland blond ale as a summer seasonal any day.

What an awesome New Beer Sunday for me! A fellow home-brew club member is moving from Florida to Minnesota, and another fellow member hosted a send-off bottle share. All of the beers listed below were new to me!! I didn't take detailed notes, but in the spirit of NBS I did a detailed rating of one of my favorites of the day, the sherry barrel-aged Marshal Zhukov.

S’Wheat Child of Mine – Pinglehead Brewing Co.
Thrilla in Brazilla – Peticolas Brewing Co.
    Triomfbier Vooruit – Brasserie Dupont
Hibernal Dichotomous (Batch #2) – Jester King
Root Doctor – Bluejacket Brewing Co.
Forces Unseen (Batch 15) – Rare Barrel
Double IPA – Hanger 24 Craft Brewery
Savant Blanc – Perennial Artisan Ales
    Wilco Tango Foxtrot – Lagunitas
Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout (Sherry Barrel Aged) – Cigar City
    110K + OT Batch #7 – Cigar City
Dark Lord 2014 – Three Floyds
Speedway Stout (Vietnamese Coffee) – Alesmith Brewing Co.
    Trappist Westvelteren 12 – Brouwerij De Sint-Sixtusabdij
Cimmerian Sabertooth Beserker – 3 Floyds
Last Rites (2015) – Ironfire Brewing Co.
The Sniper and the Poet – North Brewery
Remy’s Pappy (2013) – TAPS Fish House and Brewery – Also got to try the Pappy Van Winkle 10 year bourbon!!!
    Parabola (2012) Firestone Walker
Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout – Terrapin Beer Co.

Other standouts were the Hibernal Dichotomous, Forces Unseen, and Savant Blanc. Yes, I like Brett.

Thanks to all who brought these awesome brews!

We greatly enjoyed our stop at Frost last time up a few weeks back. Still feeling their way seemed to us, but I bet they really put out some great beer in the near future. I too will be watching them.

"Wave after wave of complexity featuring roast malt (bitter chocolate, espresso, burnt toast), hop bitterness to balance, and fruit and spice that stand out and blend together in a way that can't really be described." Nice man this really nailed it, brought it all back. Made me realize I need to get some more of that beer.

G' Evening folks! Been a long time since I visited and contributed to NBS, so tonight I saved a good one! A gift from my boss before moving to sunny FL!
    Cuvee des Jacobins Rouge
    [IMG]

Pours a dark reddish brown body with a fluffy soap bubble like head which dissipated down to a thin amount on the surface.

Aromas of sour cherries and a touch of vinegar on the back.

Super tart, almost sucks your cheeks in it's so tart and sour!

Great amount of carbonation to off-set that sourness

Overall, a great sour beer! It sure is a sipper and not one to chug down indiscriminately; must be savored.

    Cheers NBS-ers!

Happy Sunday, NBSers!!! A beautiful day in Canada South (otherwise known as Minnesota), your humble acolyte Ovaltine submits this for your approval:

    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Look: golden straw, murky goodness, 2+ fingers of white head.

Smell: a bit thin, but the coconut comes through, as does the pineapple and citrus.

Taste: this is where this beer shines - the coconut is present, but the pineapple kicks it in the rear, and the hops follow with citrusy flavors. Very refreshing.

Feel: a little dry, but the coconut gives it a milky quality. Very cool.

Overall: full disclosure - I absolutely DO NOT LIKE coconut, so I approached this beer with some trepidation, but the name pushed me over the edge. I had to buy it. And I'm glad I did. The coconut is not obtrusive, and actually helps balance the pineapple and citrus flavors. On a not-too-hot Minnesota evening, this was a GREAT quencher. Well done by Belching Beaver.

    3.37/5 rDev -10.4% | rAvg: 3.76
    look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.25

22 ounce bottle poured into a Deschutes snifter

A: Dark orange, amber color with a white head that disappeared pretty fast, not a lot of carbonation, some lacing, very clear, doesn't look like other quads I've tried.

A: Definitely getting some oak from the barrels, sweet, like citrus sweet, some rye, doesn't smell like a quad, it's missing that Belgian yeast characteristic.

T: Slight Belgian yeast, leans more on the sweet caramel, fruit side, oak comes through pretty strong, as well as the rye, some bitterness in the middle, it has a peach, apricot sweetness, slight spice, clove, finishes dry.

M: A little light, more than what I was expecting.

O: Not impressed, never had a quad like this, it's light in color, it's missing big Belgian yeast characteristics I have had in other quads, missing dark fruit notes, little spicy notes. It's more on the light sweet side, not so much dark sweet side, I've had Not the Stoic, enjoyed that more. Probably won't pick up another bottle.

The color threw me off, I was expecting something dark, it's really light for a quad.

    Good, not great
Hoppy but not the hop bomb I wanted
    More malty than fruity
I'll drink the rest of the four pack, no questions asked.
Glad I'm tryin it but don't seek it out again unless it's on tap.

Appreciate it. I am in no way an expert, or even in the same room as one, but I find lagers to be the hardest to review for some reason. Maybe it is their seeming simplicity (which is what I love about them), but consise usually seems to fit.

Hot day in west Michigan today. Spent the better part of the day cleaning out the buildings of my inlaws cottage where I've spent more than 10 years "mooching" off of them. It was a place where our family gathered and where my wife and I dreamt of letting our kids explore the woods and water as they grew up. An unfortunate fire destroyed the cottage 3 years ago and since then my mother in law has never felt comfortable there. The property was sold this week and today was our last day to say goodbye. Tears were shed, happy memories remain. Many, many beers wet drank there over the years...

One of my last beers from NBS BIF II from @Srkolodn
Its Complicated Being a Wizard from Burlington Beer Co. Big fluffy off white head and deep golden color. My first thought is pineapple upside down cake. With the initial pineapple taste, there's also burnt caramel, cake, sweet fruit and a tiny bit of piney hop flavor.

Really impressed with this as its labeled as an 'Extra IPA' but is so easy to drink. Recommended for you IPA lovers.

Normally, there would be a sweet picture to go along with this post but I'm having problems posting...I'll figure it out by next NBS.

Cracking a Sucre aged in rye barrels. I should start by saying I am a huge fan of the anniversary beers from the Bruery. This is not an exception. Absolutely lovely. The nose is strong - burst out of the bottle upon opening. Reminds me of some of their best powerful beers. The aroma in the glass is incredible. Sugary dark fruits, immense sweetness, whiskey, caramel...makes me so excited to taste it. The flavors are very strong, even when cold at fridge temp. Only gets better as it warms. Heavy caramel, sweet, whiskey, with some bitterness on the end. I am in love. I can't wait to try this with a couple of additional years.
