Apple Brandy Barrel Offerings

    I have loved everything that I have had in AB barrels and was looking for input as to what is available and what it might take to trade for some of these. Iv'e already had the MC AB, Hunaphu AB.

    Praire AB Noir was released in February I think and shouldn't be too hard to nab in a trade. Wasn't worth the cost ($14 for a 12oz bottle) to me, but I know a lot of other people really loved it.

    St Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged is AB aged.
    JW Lees Harvest Apple Calvados is also available and very tasty.

    This beer had 10 ratings the other day, and now it only has two. The overall rating is still around 4.65, but I wonder what happened to the other ratings...?

    Thanks. I see that now, but I'm not entirely sure of whether I appreciate that or not. Seeing these two ratings doesn't inspire me to believe that this beer is so great. But, when I saw the average of ten scores, I was much more inclined to think this could be a special beer.

    't Smisje Calva Reserva is really good, indeed. Split Port and Sherry Cask with my mother-in-law over the weekend. Both were world class, top notch beers. Still have a bottle of Calvados Cask. All 3 labels say "Brewed in 2010". I need to find a bottle of Lagavulin Whisky Cask around here.

    Since you're in Vermont, you have as good of a chance as anybody to look or keep an eye out for a couple Quebec beers that use apple brandy barrels. This one from Pit Caribou is very good. It just came out this year, but based on how they have been brewing lately it wouldn't surprise me to see it or a variant again and in bigger numbers. Like damn sand people.

    This one from Trou du Diable is not really my favorite, but that is because I felt like the barrel was a lot more present than I like when I tried it (and that is certainly not to say it isn't good). It might be more up your alley, since the brandy's there more.

    Also, I swear that one of the Trois Mousquetaires Porter Baltique BA variants in the past couple years with a blend of bourbon and apple brandy aged beer, but I might be hallucinating. I searched and couldn't turn anything definitive up. It might have been just 'regular' brandy.

    Crooked Stave recently released an apple brandy barrel aged version of Nightmare on Brett. It was a Source-only release, but I bet there are people in the trading forums with plenty of extras.
