I mostly interprit overrated like you do, I wouldn't think of Green Flash as overrated because on this site, as well as most BA's I know in person, dont really go crazy and hype up GF stuff very often. They seem more or less properly rated imo.

Man, I am so glad that I'm not the only one who feels that Nelson sucks now that GF took over.

Lagunitas is just way hyped for the quality of their product, along with Green Flash. In Portland right now and I'd have to say Hair of the Dog is really WAY over hyped and doesn't even come close to hitting it...and Double Mountain as well. Being from South Carolina, I feel that Coast gets a lot of love, but their beers have always been a let down for me, especially compared to others in the region.

I've heard that before about Nelson.I hear after the buyout that it dropped significally in taste. It does not surprise me.The larger you go the harder it is to keep consistency ..imho.
Only a few can continue to repeat the cycle in larger batches,But even then they are not the same beers they were making as small breweries.

Another vote for Bells. All their beers are boring and unimpressive.

What "dif were you expecting from Cellar 3
Curious what you expected from Cellar 3? What "different" BA beers you were hoping to find? And if the Nelson/Alpine beers suck so much why would you even go there anymore?

Another vote for Green Flash and that off putting lingering bitterness I get from most of their beers. I thought I was the only one who had this opinion. Everybody else here in socal seems to love their beer.

It pains me to say this, but HF is with out a doubt the most over-rated brewery in terms of IPAs. My gf and I got back from VT yesterday. We had HF Double Citra, Susan, Nelson, Excursions #4, S&S #1 & #5, Conduct #1, Galaxy, Legitimacy, Edward & Harlan. Both of us were seriously underwhelmed by every single one. They all tasted muted. Maybe its because we prefer intense hop & bitter flavors, but I can name 20 IPAs id rather have - including many from VT...

I don't reward a brewery because their beers are available in stores. That is ridiculous.

That is the beauty of their IPA's they are subtle, clean, pure hop flavors presented on light malt back bones. That is why I love them. They are not a kick in the face. I like puch you in the face IPA's too but sometimes it is nice to have something a little more nuanced. Plus brewing an IPA like hill farmstead does is far more difficult than brewing a hop bomb.

I'd agree that CCB has a ton of misses, but the main reason for that is that they make a shit ton of different beers every year and are not afraid at all to be experimental. If you take a lot of swings, you're going to have a lot of misses. Overall though, if you add up all of their "hits" in a given year, I bet you could stack them up against just about any brewery out there.

I had a couple of Road Warriors earlier this month and thought that there have been several hundred doubles I've liked better. I didn't bother to rate it.

Very few breweries make a complete lineup that I enjoy. Green Flash is no different. They hit with some and miss with others. I am hoping Rayon Vert comes back sooner than later but either way, I will find something else to enjoy. My first experience with Alpine brews was NOT good. If Green Flash is truly screwing them up then shame on Alpine for allowing it. I had Nelson and Duet on draft and both where average at best. Very disappointing.

Totally agree. Just got back from VT myself. Hill IPAs remind me of French white wine that screams "difficult" and "acquired taste." Likewise Tired Hands and Maine I find dull and watery. My IPAs don't have to punch me in the face Stone-style, but I prefer my suds to have more gregarious personality. Bottom line: it has to taste good!

I've definitely had some pretty bad Prairie's. Sadly, distribution up here discontinued Boulevard. I do love that company... decent prices too.
