If the buy out actually does happen, I would hope that Yiga and Kim would split to a different place to brew (still in san diego of course).

Oh, I highly doubt they care -- I mean, the type of people that care about that aren't the people that'd probably be talking to MillerCoors in the first place (assuming that part is true).

The difference with Boulevard is that before they were bought by Duvel-Moorgat they were with Youngs, and that wasn't working too well, so it made sense to switch to Stone at that point.

This will effect my purchase and consumption of Saint Archer in no way.

In that, I currently don't buy or drink them anyway.

Their patrons make it rather difficult to find a parking spot every thursday night when I head to the gym. I even get a discount at StA when I show them my gym membership card and I still walk up the little hill to Legacy or else head on over to Ballast after a nice climbing session.

The owners were only in it for the money to begin with. They may have made some good beer along the way but looking back I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the business plan from the begining. I'll now make a point to talk other people out of buying their beer.

Why? What's wrong with having a good business plan and executing? Their beer is actually pretty good, and I'm not sure why that will change with new ownership. I think that Big Beer is figuring out that there's pretty good profit in making beer that actually tastes good - rather than marketing the hell out of the cheapest and lightest possible. That's not a bad thing.

This is my exact thought. Mosaic was the only thing I actually enjoyed and have drank more than once. Everything else I found to be a decent beer that was average to style. There numerous other beers as good or better in the price point.

Because they were doing the opposite of what they were saying the entire time. It's essentially a big lie directly to our faces. When they're confronted with the fact that we're not stupid, that we realize their brand is essentially a marketing tool and not an actual beer making operation, they're like "No way! We're all about craft beer! We love San Diego!"

Essentially, they're full of fucking shit.

I don't care in the sense that I seldom buy their product. Same goes to Lagunitas, Elysian, Goose Island, etc. The sale will not affect my behavior. That said, I won't knock them for wanting a return on investment. To me, it doesn't matter if their initial aspirations were to live a monastic lifestyle brewing beer,* or to create a company they could pump and dump. Presumably, they put up some of their assets, took a risk, and are being rewarded for it. I am fine with that.

    * We are naive to think anyone got into the craft beer industry lacking the desire to realize a profit.

Eh, they gave a very corporate response, but I see it as less deliberate than you do. If the public/press asked my company if we were interested in selling right now, the answer would be a resounding no. I suspect if the right people asked though, that answer wouldn't hold any water.

In short, there's no gain to be had by answering "Yup, we're here to build the business for a few years then we plan on selling the shebang for a hefty profit!".

That's not a deceitful lie trying to trick us poor naive beer buyers, it's just standard operating procedure for a startup business. Also, when they were first confronted with the beer community's complete response of "meh" to their arrival, they went out and hired legit brewers and drastically improved the beer.

It's not like this place is going to feel more corporate with this transaction. I don't get why anyone even cares.

You're kinda right - I don't care too much because I never buy their beer anyway. When they first opened I happened to comment on an Instagram post of theirs and the owner, one of the skater dudes, and some other person (the wife?) basically talked shit to me saying how "legit" they are and if I "had ever been to Koln to drink Kolsch." They're all fucking tools and they can do whatever the shit they want.

I care because they are taking up the parking spots designated for the climbing gym, forcing me to park in Legacy's lot a mere 60 more ft away and then fall down the little dirt hill allowing many to at least chuckle at my failure at walking. That 60 additional feet man....it's brutal. I could come into contact with super scary wildlife, like that pigeon down at Petco that refuses to leave and doesn't get scared away by ppl but instead hangs out and eats all of the seeds the players drop by the dugout.

So yeah, I care because 60 ft and scary wildlife. Yeah!
