I like tequila...for shooting. Aging beers in tequila barrels, however, sounds pretty gnarly, but I've been seeing more of this around. Anyone tried anything like this? How was it?

Lost Abbey's Agave Maria is pretty spectacular. Voodoo's Taco Flavored Kisses is not (love ya, Voodoo). To be frank, I'm not a tequila fan.

If you can count occulto, it was like drinking a tequila soda.

Only other one that ive had was actually a pear cider aged in reprosado (?) Tequila barrels from Wyders. It was honestly awful.

Not a fan of tequila. It has helped make me do stupid things and/or get sick so I won't touch the stuff anymore. Having said that, every beer deserves a chance (read: tick) and have actually quite enjoyed some of the tequila barrel aged beers I've tried...without the regrets as well

I love tequila and I think it often gets the short stick for being a shooter only. I am actually picking up a tequila barrel aged stout this weekend, excited.

I guess Im just not a tequila fan...but points unknown from stone tasted like oily dirt that was taken from underneath a recycling bin filled with beer bottles

Tequila next to whiskey is my favorite but you have to have high end stuff never buy cheap tequila. Cabo wabo and don Julio being same of my favorites. I have had a few beers with tequila and most have been good except taco flavor kisses. Tequila cake being my favorite.

I have a somewhat relatable experience. I'm a fan of rum, and was excited beyond belief when I got my hands on a rum-barrel aged barleywine (8 year beer). I'm sure it would have been great with a few years of age, but as it was, it was simply not what I was expecting, and I should have poured out the last glass (or shared it with someone).

I was at my girlfriends holiday party two years ago, full open bar. They had a bottle of Don Julio 1942 and no one was drinking it. I pretty much had the whole bottle. So good.

New England Brewing Co. did a Tequila Barrel aged version of Gandhi Bot called Zapata Bot. It was incredible. Would definitely recommend if they ever do it again.

A local brewery in Los Angeles had a tequila barrel aged hefeweizen (El Hefe Anejo) that convinced me it was a bad idea to age beer in tequila barrels.

Maybe a barleywine could stand up to it, but I'm not convinced.

Cycle's Pallet 3 is DOS aged in tequila barrels and it is very tasty. I have also tried OK-Si from Prarie and was not as impressed.

    I generally dislike tequila, but...

Wild Heaven Height of Civilization is a tequila-barrel aged English barleywine. The base beer, Civilization, is a fairly straightforward English barleywine with the addition of Prussian lemons, dried cherries, and cocoa nibs:

For whatever reason, the barrels didn't impart an agave or tequila flavor so much as they sweetened the beer. Descriptions in reviews of "praline pecans" and "caramel," were dead on in my opinion. A truly underrated beer from ATL.

It may have been when it first came out but the one I had some months back was pretty nasty and others have reported bad bottles too, so it sounds like it's probably infected. Mine was drinkable, but barely so.

If you can swing a trade for Cortijo, a tequila barrel-aged saison from Kane in NJ i would highly recommend.

Ah, that's a shame. Yeah, first had it at a tasting in June of 2014 & it was great. It actually won the vote at the tasting, too.
