Just tried that one for the first time myself recently. 100% agree with your review here - truly a beautiful brew!

Good day NBS friends! I'm doing a remote review today from a party at Granite City in Naperville IL. I'm trying a pint of a guest tap from Pig Minds called Vanilla Bitch Slap. It's an American Amber conditioned with bourbon soaked Madagascar vanilla beans. Let's see?

The color is a very clean amber with a small amount of off white foam. The smell is pretty much all vanilla. Flavor starts with vanilla, followed by some malt and bread. Feel is thin but slick, with a bit of alcohol burn. Perhaps from the bourbon soaked beans?

Overall a nice vanilla flavor in a really easy drinking red ale. Besides that, there isn't much else going on. Nice beer, but not something I'd seek out. My score was a 3.77 r/Dev +4.7%.

Have a great Sunday, hope to be back later. Review below......

That makes me feel a bit better, like I'm not crazy. And that tart base beer is pretty tasty ... I mean, Frambiose would be a sickly sweet rasberry soda without it. I'll definitely try the peche. They're so easy to find that running through the standard lineup will be easy.

I'm not sure if I've seen it at my beer-buying stops. But I'll look for it for sure ... probably save it for an NBS if I can find it. I saw it reviewed on a video podcast and was surprised to see a Lindemans so well thought of. Thanks for the info!

It's quite the sight ... call me names for it, but I like the dark red-pink color scheme.

Here's a much different color scheme:

I held off buying the Snow Pack for quite some time, but the siren song of the coffee stout took its toll. :flushed:

And it's quite tasty ... though for my money the softer chocolately sweet nose is the highlight of this one. The flavors start off very bitter, an obviously super-hopped-up bitter, and the sweeter dark-malt flavors have to work to get some say. Over time, it's also giving my palate that coffeed-out fatigue that includes a film of coffee on the tongue ... you could argue that's what a coffee stout *should* do.

    4.1 (+1% rDev)

It's a good beer. Not good enough that I'll buy 9 other beers just to get 3 of it, but still good.

Is it just me, or does Midnight maybe wanna go outside?

Hey everyone, happy NBS. Today I'm trying a single I picked up last week during my annual Maine trip. Lots of great beers up there, but this one I tried for the first time today. Maybe it's the fact that I finished the leaves (for now) early today and I'm relaxing outside by the fire pit and dragged my old basement TV outside, watching the JV games until the Giants come on, but I really liked Steal This Can from Lord Hobo. Cheers!

Good afternoon, New Beer Sunday folks.

Been up since early with my daughter and made some breakfast burritos (a New Mexico staple) this morning, but first had to make sure I had some red chile to douse the burrito with.

But for New Mexicans, red chile is never enough, we need some green chile too:

Now I'm on to beer and I'm starting my new beer Sunday with a Fremont Dark Star, a beer I've tasted in some variants (with Hazelnut and Kentucky Dark Star):

    4.24/5 rDev +6%
    look: 5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Bomber poured into a tulip glass.

Nice on appearance. Oatmeal/ khaki-head of the frothy, chewy, milkshake-like variety. Pitch-black liquid that contrasts excellently with the head. Lace develops in sticky splotches as the head recedes. 5

Dark roasted malt and grassy hop notes. Light chocolatey notes and vanilla. Nothing particularly seductive or mind-blowing, but it's still a nice aroma. 4

Continued dark malt presence on the tongue with a cocoa and chocolate syrup complement and vanilla, all of which make for a roasty, unsweetened hot chocolate sort of flavor experience. Initially, I was tasting a grassier, earthier hop flavor, but some light citrus notes sneak in and are a pleasing addition. 4.25

They nailed the oatmeal stout quality that one wants when drinking this style. This is roasty with a thick, viscous, creamy feel and light sweetness that roll over the tongue something lovely. Bitterness is light on the finish and mingles with a brown sugary taste and feel in a way that well displays the delicate balance of sensations. I will say, I appreciate the body on this, but some might find it thin. 4.25

I've had a lot of Fremont brews over the past year and found them to be either spectacular gems or moderate duds. This is the former. Excellent.

Next beer is part of the package from @beergorrilla which included mainly a beer I cannot turn down: Wulver. Seekabeer says Thirsty Dog distributed to VA, and it was my understanding they would be, but I have never sniffed a Wulver. Anyhow, the return package is ready, which is step 2 of the process (buy, package, get into mail, hope it gets there undamaged). The last two steps are the most worrisome. Hoping the package is enjoyed is step 4b .

Anyhow, this is a beer from Roak (presumably from the location it is Brewer: Royal Oak, MI):
    Devil Dog Oatmeal Stout
Beer pours seemingly thick and oily, and for a second I thought the heft of the beer was preventing any head (not an overly strong pour). Eventually a tan-to-brown head appears, but it does end up a bit shy and fades to the edges of the glass. Nose is straightforward stout, to me: coffee/chocolate notes with a hint of smoke. I am still trying to better focus on malt notes, but I think I do get the oatmeal here, too.

Taste follows suit, almost exactly. Coffee notes on a medium body brew that is woody bitter and dry. Light chocolate notes mid taste and then an oatmeal feel comes along, flaky, tending towards a little chalky (which is best I describe how I get oatmeal stouts).

This beer is one of those that might almost be the perfect example of the style, in my mind. Nothing unexpected, nothing outrageous, nothing wrong. Other notes:
This beer is marketed as a tribute to veterans "on two feet and four."
And a pic of one of our four-footed family members that I noticed while analyzing this beer:

Before I took over cable, the GF's box was about 150% the size of this box, and both cats enjoyed the warmth it emanated. The smaller/girl cat might have a warm belly, but her ass might still feel a light chill . Cheers!!

My lovely wife brought some of these home. She acts like she doesn't like beer, but I know better. This is Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA. A beautiful deep burnished copper, with a big frothy head, this beer is rich, full flavored and one hell of a bargain. This stuff is brewed just up the escarpment and is utterly delightful. Very dry, with great malt presence, and a big nose of some kind of tropical something or other, delicious, and at 6.8%, semi dangerous. I highly recommend this beer to any and all. I get very emotional about my Dad this time of year. Here is a bit of his legacy.
    [IMG] [IMG]
Wow. I spent about 3 hours last night speaking and having fun with my son. We were all over the place, but I just simply told him I wish he had known my Dad....he is so much like him! This is from the invasion - and his service-at Leyte Bay, and elsewhere, that almost made me not ever be!
This music sticks in my head. I was at The Atlanta Pop Festival (Byron, Ga.) the year after Woodstock and the music was pure, from Poco to Hendrix, to the local Allman boys. Damned!

My second NBS beer I picked up on Friday after a Thursday release. Some of you may have already heard of it.

    Double Sunshine IPA

    Lawson's Finest Liquids
American Double / Imperial IPA / 8.00% ABV

    4.09/5 rDev -10.9% | Avg: 4.59
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

L-The pour is cloudy and golden. The head is immense and makes me wait for it recede to finish my pour.
S- Much like Sip of Sunshine it is very fruity and floral.
T-It starts out quite bitter in a grapefruity way. My palate eventually adjust and I find myself enjoying the beer longer the more I drink it.
F-Light, well carbonated, and the finish is dry due to the bitterness.
O- Another very good IPA from Lawson's. I feel like it it too similar to sip though. Still glad I got a chance to try it.

    New Oatmeal Stout Sunday

Hello all! Beautiful day here in Milwaukee - low 60's and sunny! Today's brew is another winner from Great Lakes! Ohio City Oatmeal Stout - smooth and easy-drinking! I scored it 4.08 (appearance, aroma, taste - 4.0's - mouthfeel and overall 4.25's) - a bit above the current average. It's a pleasant oatmeal stout - sweet with a mildly roasty finish. Enjoyable - I've had two already and will have no problem finishing off the other four before the end of the day.

Good afternoon NBS Thanks @utopiajane and @cavedave for the intro and the focus, Congrats to @Greywulfken for
his milestone, I always enjoy his work. A fine weather day here in WMass, big hikes the last two days, the trees are
all gearing up for their slumber the wind sings its autumn goodbyes these days.
Today I have the Boulevard CCB collaboration 5. I like the platform of a pale ale using fruits to match the hop type and schedule. A bit sweet, but not a huge detractor.
Our countries first and oldest ally suffers this week, so to all our friends in France.

    Je vous remercie.

Collaboration No. 5 - Tropical Pale Ale

    Boulevard Brewing Co.
American Pale Ale (APA) / 7.20% ABV

    3.65/5 rDev -8.5% | Avg: 3.99
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into the modified glass.
A - wildflower honey gold in color, a very gentle trail of carbonation, works its way through a
viscous body avoiding floating particulate to create a quickly dissipating cap.
S - This offering certainly live up to the bill, tropical notes, passion fruit, dragon fruit, orange, lemon reduction, Orange, and unsulphured dry pineapple ripe mango and currant .
T - Malt is pleasantly forward, the fruited addition adds some heft to the hops. The flavors mix and blend through the entire exposure. A slickly sweet thread runs through the blend, with an increase in temperature this becomes a bit much for me.
M - Medium body, weighted a bit by the fruit oils. a slick feeling coats the palate and never gives up, The carbonation is no match. Leaving a linger of sweet tropical fruits. As time passes, a finish that is slightly bitter.
O - The offering is rich and oily, the tropical elements are up front and continue to the end. The use of fruit and the hop characters are well executed. By keeping this in the pale ale format the body is just wonderful.
    Worth seeking out.
    Cheers

Good afternoon my fellow NBSer's. Its a gorgeous day here in north Jersey. I slept in a little, set my fantasy football line up and took a ride up into NY state on a beer run. I go once or twice a month looking for brews that don't make it into Jersey. Its 45 minutes each way but I always come back with a nice haul. Today I was on the lookout for something from Singlecut brewing. I've heard good things and thought I'd get lucky and bring home a bottle or two. Well, I came home with 6. Along with some Pipework's and a couple of growlers of various NY brews. Twas a good day for sure. I decided to try the DIPA from Singlecut first. Go big or go home right. Well, as usual my fellow craft beer fans were right on and everything I heard was true. Fantastic brew. Lovely aroma as soon as I popped the bottle. Enormous hop hit up front just like a good DIPA should - then amazing flavor throughout. Great mouth feel. So fruity. Some of the NY /NJ IPA's that are coming out from these guys, Carton, Kane - Grimm and a few others are just outstanding and on par with the well know VT brews. Which is a big statement from me as I'm a huge VT hops fan. Glad to see. Everyone is stepping up their game and the winners are ---- US ! Cheers all

Saint Arnold's new Icon Red, which is an "American Roggenbier." American hops, with a German weizen yeast, and heavy rye malt bill. It works surprisingly well. Not only really interesting, but something I want to get more of. A lot of times a beer can be just interesting, while I don't really care to ever have it again, not the case here. Review below...
