At 13.5 %, I'd come over and help you kill it! I love Chocolate in beer...just not Licorice though.

I couldn't find any better descriptor than old fashioned licorice but it was more chocolate and molasses than anything else. Just had a hearty yet muted spice presence sort of.

    New Amber Ale

It cooled off in West MI. There's still a couple of inches of snow from Saturday, and it just started coming down again. That's making my boys happy. My wife and me, not so much.

This weekend we started re-watching the Star Wars series to prep for the new release. The kids hadn't seen Episode 3, and were amazed at how dark the plot became.

Today's brew was actually consumed in the wee hours. It really grew on me.

    Pig in the Wood

22oz. Bottle (no visible dating) gifted by Smitty, poured into a Molson imperial pint.

A- It poured an amber body with 1/2 finger off-white head that settled to 1/4 finger. There's really nice lace left on the glass.

S- With lots caramel and whiskey aroma, it comes off as a little boozy (warm and soft, not harsh). A little warmth brings leafy and spicy hops. There's tobacco and leather later still.

T- Much as the aroma suggests. It's very malty with lots of caramel and light char like Scotch. The second pour and some time brings more spicy and leafy hops.

M- Medium-full body, light carbonation and some alcohol warmth/bite.

O- It starts like a Scotch ale, very woody/peety. I thought it a decent sipper, but not something I'd spend my own money on at first. With some time it becomes more of a barleywine when the hops start to open up. The more I drink, the more I appreciate it.

Even with Chocolate and Molasses I'd still drink it. I've never been a fan of Licorice maybe that's why I was repulsed by Abyss..(non infected release).

    Happy New Imperial Pilsner Sunday!

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slope, mid 40s and sunny. Been watching some football, but not really, did watch the Canes and Kings earlier, ended not what I expected, being that close. Always love having something from this brewery Cellar Reserve brew's especially, never been disappointed in all the years, and this one is also very tasty and worth seeking out, quite different take on the style, well at least to me.:sunglasses:

Glad you enjoyed it as it is one of my favorite IIPA's but the moment I tried OTWOA, I immediately put it in the same class.

Samuel Adams Sparkling Ale has a thick, spongy, bone-colored head, a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, and heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, slightly lemony, yeasty, biscuit, and the flavor is of those elements, along with low-level, grassy bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Samuel Adams Sparkling Ale finishes dry and clean.

Here are some documents found in an old desk. See if you can read the one from George C. Marshall. That episode defined my Dad's life. He was a Second Lieutenant, smart as a whip, and was the only wounded one in the escape. We received letters for years that were from my Dad's platoon-mates. He brought them all back from behind Japanese lines and very rarely said anything about it. He died today, 39 years ago, victim of PTSD, and a pure hero. I love and miss the guy and utterly wish that my children could have known him. Time is a bandit. The other letter is a response from The State Department concerning my Mom's objection to our involvement in Viet-Nam. I always thought Apocalypse Now/Heart of Darkness was a great film. But this little young lady will be cute forever! Cheers all! I love Martin Sheen.

Greetings NBS friends. Reviewing a pumpkin beer I picked up when I was in Colorado. Trying to finish my final pumpkin beers to free up fridge space. Let's see?

Pours a hazy orange with minimal off white foam and a lot of floaties. The aroma is loaded with pie spices including cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. I get some graham cracker in the end. Taste is pie spice forward with cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. A bit of pumkin flesh in the finish. Feel is on the oily side, but thin.

Overall this a really solid pumpkin beer. Great spice flavor without being cloying. One of the top ones in my opinion. My score was 4.21 - rDev +1.9%.

    Here's the official skinny......

Crisp cool day in the deep south, and after catching up around the house, it is time for a new beer.

Today's offering is a special occasion for me - new beer #1000, so I choose Central Water's Black Gold which comes to me courtesy of @egrace84.

This has all of the components you could wish for in a BA stout.

Pitch black with mocha head. Bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate are prominent. Nice barrel notes. Some real complexity to the flavors - picking up on some tobacco and cherries as it warms.

Central Water's barrel aging program has always impressed me, and this is no exception. Excellent stout, and highly recommended.

Good evening NBS, finally getting around to drink just some of the new beers I have laying around. Been a busy day between hitting up the Tired Hands bottle release and grocery shopping. First new beer was an 8 oz at Tired Hands, Reincarnated As A Cloud, after driving an hour and only waiting five minutes in line I felt like I should take the time to have a beer inside. I would rate it around 4.25, dank finish, lots of citrus upfront, hint on lemons, lives up to the quality of other Tired Hands IPAs.

    Thank you SomethingClever for this
12 oz can, canned 11/15, poured into a teku

A- A slightly hazy bright golden orange color with a four finger white head.

S- Piney, somewhat dank, some citrus, tropical fruits, mango, some floral/herbal notes, some caramel malts, no hints of alcohol.

T- Citrus/grapefruit rinds up front, some tropical fruits, mangos, melon, a light floral taste, and a solid caramel malt backbone all pulled together with a hugely bitter piney/resiny finish and the slightest hint of alcohol.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- Well done, at 11.5% this beer is dangerous. The more I drink this the more I love it. Wish I could get this around me, very happy SomethingClever sent me two cans. Very easy drinking.
