    Hello, I'm pretty new in the beer world and just wanted to see if you guys could recommend me a beer.

    What I'm wanting is something with lots of bread/toast, chocolate, brown sugar notes with no fruit hints at all. I absolutely cannot stand a fruit taste in a beer like orange/citrus.

    Would like to keep the calories and carbs down if possible.

    Maybe I would like something between a Warsteiner Dunkel and Shiner Bock? These are two beers I really enjoy.

    Where are you located? If you can get Yuengling Porter give that a shot. If not, then concentrate on other Dunkels like Hofbrau.

    The German Bocks will be heftier, but maybe try Einbecker one of these days for the hell of it.

    Maybe you would like Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. It fits your description of what you like plus a bit of nutty goodness.

    Take a beer you do like. Do a search in the database for that beer. On that page that comes up you'll also find a style name. Click that style link and it will take you to another page with lots of other beers in the same style ordered by number of reviews. Often the more reviews the easier it will be to find that beer.

    Most of the calories in the beer are going be coming from the alcohol, so if you are looking for "lower" calories, aim for beers in the styles you like given the above advice with lower ABV's. The below is a good estimate, and probably as close as you're going to get assuming the brewery doesn't list this information somewhere on their website:

    Sounds like you want something a tad sweet, beyond just a simple dunkel lager or porter. And your aversion to fruit seems to be purely around citrus notes, not dark fruit notes. Given that, I'm thinking Ayinger Celebrator. Read a few reviews for it and see if it sounds right to you.

    It's a stellar beer.

    Yeah, Brown Ales are also worth a shot. Samuel Smith's has a fruity yeast signature but it is not citrusy.

    Maybe try Moose Drool too.

    Your tastes kinda sound like my wife: not liking the hops. How about the Scottish Ales or English Milds and the like? She likes it a lot when beer tastes like "bread" whatever that means . . .

    Welcome! I'm not sure if you can get all of these in your area, but some styles/beers to try...

    English Porter: Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter, Fuller's London Porter;
    Brown Ale: Brooklyn Brown Ale, Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale, Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale;
    Dunkel Lager: Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel;
    Schwarzbier: Uinta Baba Black Lager, Brooklyn Insulated Dark Lager.

    Can we ask what beers you did not like that were of the citrus/fruit flavor?

    It sounds like you want a malty beer which I am afraid is calorific no matter what style. To stay away from citrus is easy - do not have the triple, the IPA or the saison. You like dark malty beer. Very fattening. Dubbel, dunkel, dopplebock, schwarzbier, porter and stout.

    Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock and any doppelbock, like Weihenstephaner Korbinian, is definitely for you then.

    I used to say exactly the same about disliking fruit flavors in a beer... and then I had a Sofie.
