    New Bock Sunday

Hello everyone! Cold day here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. High around 20 and snowing. Today's brew is from August Schell - Schell's Bock. I bought it as part of a variety 12-pack. It's very nice to say the least. I scored it 4.25 across the board, landing it above the current average of 3.9. It's a solid example of a sweet traditional German-style amber bock. If you like malt-forward strong lagers I certainly recommend it!

Valentine's Disease causes frantic rose and chocolate purchasing. It isn't fatal, but it is scary.

Quite an interesting animal, and there's 2 BA entries for it... one under wild ale one under Saison. After having the beer I can definitely see where it seems either style could be the correct one  Very unique brew.

The bird rescue that saved one of them also takes in boarders when people are away, so they stay there. An amazing couple who have extended their house out the back, and look after ~80 abandoned and rescued parrots. They try and find people to adopt, or just look after them for ever, which is no mean feat, since the big guys can live 60+ years! Whenever I travel for work or vacation they go and rule the roost at their house. This is the pic they sent me at Christmas:

If you ever decide to upgrade, say from Girlfriend 7.2 to Wife 1.0, that will not be a problem. That upgrade automatically activates built in re-training routines.

Wonderful Jack! I loved the history! Thank you so much for filling in and for a wonderful and witty introduction! As far as love is concerned I can say without a doubt that I believe just like Judy Holiday did in that one movie. All you have to do is put your name on the billboard . . . "and it awl will come right to ya." You know I like our made up beer holidays better because what we buy, we can Swallow Wit. Cheers you all and Happy New Beer Sunday.

Happy New Wit Beer and Get It That's a Pun Sunday

I finally got to the store to find some more Middle Ages Beer after I tried their barley wine. The breweries about 20 years old and has the house beer at Cuses famous Dinosaur Barbecue. Here is their witbier Swallow Wit -

Pours hazy golden yellow with a white head that fell fast. Nose is fragrant with breaddy wheat, perfumey coriander and some citrus. It has a light fresh banana, some sweaty phenols and a bit of tartness even ont he nose. Clove coriander and earth. Lots of spice and a light sweetness. Gosh it smells perfect. Taste is lots of wheat cracker. Crisp . Pleasantly sweet with a soft citric backnote. Light banana provides lush fruitiness without being overly sweet. No bubblegum. A medium low hop bitterness that does not persist. Finishes bubbly and with sweet spice. It's just tart and not sour in the middle.

As newly divorced (well soon, the judge signs off in a few weeks) I was recently marketed by a friend as 'pre-trained'... Seriously WTF!:stuck_out_tongue:

Haha. I can only relate to the biting. My Blue Quaker is a bit of a savage. Seems to have a love/hate relationship with me. Sometimes he wants to perch on my shoulder, other times he's trying to take my finger off. But he's pretty low maintenance.

Betting your friend was male.

Most of us males don't realize that there are multiple random components to the re-training routines that get activated with the upgrade or new edition and so there will still be considerable re-training that comes with that new edition (at no extra cost you the person doing new the upgrade).

Moved on to another new beer. I have a few more in the fridge for today as I march toward my year end goal of 1000. This is #621 so I have 379 beers to drink in the last 321 days of 2016. I am pretty sure I will be unsuccessful at this foolish goal as I will have a hard time finding and buying 379 beers, I will probably be in poor health after all that beer and I'm not sure I can buy all those beers on my salary. But what the hell, I'll give it a go.

Here is the review of 621.

    4.1/5 rDev +2%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Very deep brown pour with a light tan head that left a few ribbons and spots of lacing. The aroma has a nice nutty, sweet toffee and roasted malt scent. The taste is less sweet than the smell but has a pleasant nutty flavor and a kind of charred malt bitterness that gives the finish a little tangy taste. The body is medium/light with a decent amount of carbonation. Quite a tasty brown.

Ha, yeah mine are jekyll and hyde too sometimes - a puddle of love one minute then biting me because I am not paying attention! I have heard Quakers can be a bit more independent. They are also known for being cage aggressive, and can be really defensive if you are touching their cage or their stuff!

My guys are incredibly food motivated - they will let me do almost anything if I have a treat for them. Have you tried treat training him to accept fingers and step up? I use bits of dried fruit / sunflower seeds (raw unsalted of course!) / pieces of apple. It will take consistent and dedicated time for a few months, but my guys hop straight on my finger now and only get nippy around their cages now.

I liked this barrel aged brew a lot, and I thought it was better than the base beer. Nice way to start off my drinking today, I'll be back on here in a while with some more new brews!

Oh absolutely. Guy is super territorial about his cage. And I don't bother giving him my finger to perch on because I know he'll bite the sucker, so I offer my forearm and he will hop on. I've thought about training him but I am good with our current relationship. Haha.

When I want cuddliness I have the cockatiel...much more affectionate.

My wife loves beer. She says her favorite beer is my homebrewed Altbier (Sticke version) but I thought she might enjoy something different.

A local brewpub (Iron Hill in Phoenixville, PA) brewed a special beer for Valentine’s Day:

    “Rose Tripel

    OG: 1088 Color: 4 IBU: 38 ABV: 9.5%

Traditional Belgian-style golden ale with complex aroma and notes of plum and spice, aged with rose petals and rose water.”

I bought a growler as a Valentine’s Day present. In her words: “This beer is lovely!!”

She was kind enough to share this beer with me. Iron Hill did an excellent job brewing this beer. The aspect of rose was noticeable on the nose and flavor but the level was just right (as Goldilocks would say).

If any of you are in the Phoenixville area I would highly recommend that you stop by this week and try this beer. You don’t get to drink a Rose flavored beer very often (if ever).

If I had to pick one word to describe this beer it would be (unsurprisingly): floral

Cheers to Iron Hill for making this awesome beer!!

P.S. Nothing is as 'elegant' as burping up the flavor of rose.
