First off I just wanted to say I love the moderation changes. I just have a quick question in regards to an "auction trade", because I don't want to get in trouble...

If someone posts an ISO:FT where they think they have some crazy whale in their hands for trade and want to see what they can get out of it, can we send them a PM with an offer of a 6 pack of Bud Light? It is an offer for their whale, and is a humorous way(in my opinion) to point out the ridiculousness of their offer without just lambasting them.

Sure, why not? That's what an auction trade is.

I think if they are going to allow auction trades, they need to open comments back up so that people can warn others about them. I have no interest in the headache of dealing with an auction trade, I think this was a really bad decision.

I would think that's perfectly acceptable. By posting that and/or not being specific that's exactly what an auction is and the trader is bringing it upon themselves IMO. But...I guess this would better be answered by a MOD.

Yeah, I agree, Im cool with vague posts, but this whole FT: Beer X ISO: Best Offer, Im not a fan of, IMO they deserved to get spammed with BMC offers. I thought people would have better integrity, but I guess not

It's not against the rules, so yes.
We currently have no desire to allow replies again, but we will be providing some guidelines to help new traders understand auctions and let them decide if they want to ignore them or not.

What is the reasoning for not allowing replies on trade posts? I'd say 80% of the ISO:FT posts are not even in the universe of reality, will never get done, and just clog up the forum. I know that personally I learned the value of bottles, and how to trade through people commenting on my posts both here and in other trading sites. Honestly not trying to troll, but just looking for the reasoning.

No offense, but I'm not going to rehash this. There are plenty of threads and updates that explain this.

Appreciate the announcement BA made today and the new changes overall. Glad they continue to improve and listen to the users here.

Interesting to see how these new rules turnout. Could turn into the Wild Wild West with auction posts. Only thing I don't like about it is it gives more incentive for people to hoard limited releases thinking they have another outlet to auction their beer. But on other hand it could backfire on them too.

It is too late and I am sure not open to debate, but my ideal trade forum would be that every trade post must meet one of these conditions:

    1) Exact trade, say 1 bottle of Parabola for 1 bottle of Mexican Cake
    2) $4$
    3) Points associated with each beer.

This would eliminate auctions but of course this could always happen behind the scenes too.

One of the solutions that we're still exploring is a forum like this for veteran beer traders. That's all of got for now.

I mean, is the poster obligated to trade once they post an auction trade? They could be spammed with offers, but who would know if they went through with it?

Not saying I'm participating in auction trades. I have way more interest in trading mix six packs with the rule change  Just curious.

No one is ever obligated to trade until a trade request is accepted.

Idk if I'm considered veteran, but I know I would be someone that absolutely loves this!

Okay, that's what I thought. So the offerings may only annoy someone, not lock them into anything. Just wondering.

Not to be contradictory, but accepting the offer isn't binding either. This isn't a contract, and it's in no way legally binding. You'll get chewed out on BA, maybe even face some repercussions limited to this website, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to based on this site.

Okay, not legally obligated, but obligated withing the rules we have set as a community. I think that is an obvious distinction.

Fair enough. I think there may be some gray areas (extenuating circumstances, etc) but most of this can be boiled down to using common sense and courtesy.

While I'm definitely not a fan of auctioneers, I love the fact that trades can be a bit more vague now. I hated posting "exactly" what I was looking for bottle for bottle when in reality there were tons of beers that I would consider. Being able to throw up a beer(s) and say that you are looking for stouts/IPAs/specific brewery/etc is a much better system and will encourage more trading IMO. I don't know why people get so bent out of shape over these "auction type" posts. I almost always trade $4$ and wouldn't trade with someone that didn't want to do the same or was trying to rip me off so to speak. It's really that simple.
