    Congrats on hitting 1000!

Expect to be hitting that target myself before too much longer, especially since we now have some actual, genuine, conveniently located bottle shops popping up in PA the last few years.

NBS round two here we go players. A pretty bad Mets loss but it's still early so I'm not going to nuts. Debating to either watch a movie next, or start daredevil season 2. I'm just not a golf fan.

Nihilist, ba dipa, from Odd Side Ales. @Prager62 gets the credit again for delivering this fine brew in the nbs bif #3. The bottle art takes on a nice gimmick on one of my, and many others, favorite movie. Fucking nihilists.

A pretty pour with an amber/orange color, a good amount of carbonation and a fluffy white head. I get mostly oak/wood from the nose with fruity hops. A dry and oaky start on the drinking with a mix of spicy hops. A hoppy and bitter finish as well. Lots of really nice barrel tones with vanilla, caramel, oak, and bourbon. The more it warms the more the hop notes come on to provide some really interesting balance. The hops are fruity and spicy with major citrus notes of peach, orange, and lemon. Mouth feel is pretty moderate but a mixed feeling of dry and creamy. The 10% abv hides dangerously well.

Overall, this is a pretty interesting brew that has many things going on at the same time. Does it have a bit to much going on? Perhaps, so but still a beer that is very much worth trying. I'm right around a 4 or slightly lower on it,

Ok, time for a non-BIF beer. The GF lives Maine Beer Co beer (I'm a pretty big fan, too), and she found these at our local grocer, of all places. She picked a couple up, and they actually had decent dates. Figured we'd knock one of the bottles out here today. This is Beer I
    [IMG]

This is yet another clean beer from Maine. Yellow white in appearance, it also produces a white head that clings to the glass here and there. Nose of lemon-heavy citrus, there's also a little earthiness and pithy bitterness that shows up.

Taste is clean with its opening, but has a decent body by mid-taste. Carbonation is on point. The beer taste doesn't betray the nose, citrus zest and pith, leaning lemony. The one nice part for me was the grapefruit pith bitterness that lingered in an extended aftertaste.

Enjoyable beer that I think is similar tis one of the brews Ocelot brewing is making around here (or flip that, maybe). I like the malt profile that lets the hops be the show but gives them a solidly built stage on which to perform.

    Happy New Beer Sunday

Huge shout out to those crazy bastards in the NBS BIF. This beer it forward was tremendous. Can't wait for the next one.

So my first BIF New Beer is Rise of the Angels from 18th street courtesy of @BigRedDog

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Can't figure out how to send just the link so Here's my review:
    4.4/5 rDev +1.4%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Received this can from a great BA @BigRedDog

A: Hazy and unfiltered as advertised. The finger and a half of head quickly subsides and leaves good lacing
S: Suprisingly subtle. Sweet fruits tangerine mango slight floral hint
T: Not nearly as subtle as the aroma. Plenty of orange, tangerine plum. Slight hind of rind.
Mf: Easy drinking no alcohol burn slight linger of rind bitterness on the finish.
O: very good New England style IPA. Could use a little more bitterness for my taste but an excellent beer.

Drinking this while cooking and listening to some Velvets
This is my 4 year old's favorite song

Good Evening- I guess is appropriate at this time. Sundays a work day for me and can be as quiet as heck or very busy. Today happened to be a busy one- which actually is good. I will be very busy next weekend so you wont see too many posts from me. Thank You Maria - @utopiajane for kicking things off and making my mouth water for a Mexican style AAL. Who Knew? Ive posted quite a few from my fantastic box of BIF beers from @foundersasap and ive a few to get through which wont be all today. Thank You my friend. My fave so far has been the Witches Hat Resin Smashed- single hop with Simcoe.
Delicious brew. So lets give another BIF box beer a try:

Shorts Brew Superfluid Double American India Pale Ale

Pours a nice looking gold color with a slight haze. 1/4" white head diminishes in a few minutes. Leaves some nice "world Map" Or Loch Ness monster -Ha- Lacing. (See pic) Yes I see things in the clouds........

Aroma is huge the minute the cap is popped. Sweet tropical notes of pineapple, mango, passionfruit and floral citrus blossoms. There is also stonefruit and citrus of the sweeter variety - perhaps tangerine. Dankness also- in marijuana notes. Fantastic smelling brew!! really nice

Taste follows with the tropical fruits- lots of pineapple and now some bitter notes of citrus pith and some pine. This huge mouthful of massive flavor is just sitting precariously atop a tiny bit of sweet malt. Just a tad alcohol peeks through- certainly adds to the palette of flavor going on, if nothing else creating the wonderful tropical beer buzz. The bitterness rounds out this nicely hopped monster! I likey my IPAs and this is a damn good one.

Feel is medium bodied with nice balanced carbonation and the slickness does coat the tongue but this finished dry and the flavor hung around.

Well this may have just taken prize for best of the box so far- though I have more than a couple to go. My first Superfluid is damn good. This to me is a West Coast Style IPA with East Coast Style hops- if that makes any sense. In "Shorts" a Midwest Style IPA!!

And for New Old Vinyl Sunday Ive chosen one of the best live tracks ever- by one of the greatest live bands ever-
Whipping Post - By the Allman Brothers. A shout out to @CanadianBacon on this one! Be good and stay safe my friend- it will all work out. Happy NBS BIF Sunday. And as always thanks for taking the time to listen.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The first of my NBS offerings today comes courtesy of my BIF partner @larryi86 Being new to the BIF and frankly to craft beer in general developing my pallet is enhancing over time.

Sort of like when you were 18 and you first tried a PBR or Natty Light and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, my first encounters with craft beer has much the same impact…everything I tried was great and couldn’t believe beer like this existed.

Then came the BIF and the education I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Today I am drinking a DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon Imperial IPA. 9.2% ABV

    BA scores this a: 96

    Ratings: 1900

    rAvg: 4.32

    pDev: 24.31%

    No rDev value listed.

Poured into my snifter, this beer pours nicely into about a 2 mm soapy head with minimal lacing that seemed to linger. Color is a dark burnt beautiful orange with a nice haze. On first pour the aroma of pine and citrus literally filled the air, even so much that my son standing 25 feet from me, outdoors even, could smell the delicious goodness I was enjoying. The feel is creamy smooth and thick through the finish. Not bitter and given the higher ABV the citrus and pine flavor comes off well.

As the beer warmed a bit the flavor changed somewhat allowing the hops and earthy flavors to come through a little stronger than the citrus.

    Here are my ratings

    Look: 4.00

    Smell: 4.75

    Taste: 4.00

    Feel: 4.00

    Overall: 4.00

    Very enjoyable beer.

    And my thoughts:

    3.62/5 rDev -7.7%
    look: 5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

12 ounce bottle poured into an English pub glass.

Deep brown body with a lighter shade towards the base of the glass. Foamy head plateaus within the glass and as it recedes, a wall of lace forms resembling ivy. Great persistence to the head. Great appearance.

Smell throws me for a loop. Has a saison-like floral bouquet, apple and caramel and bread and a distant roastiness on the finish. Interesting and pleasant although I'm not entirely seduced by it. 3.5

I find more of a conventional brown ale awaiting me on the flavor. Caramel and bread up front leading to a lot earthy hop finish and some toast and light roasted coffee on the finish. All light flavors here but there's enough to satisfy. A strong floral flavor will linger with each drink and again reminds me of a something more in the Belgian vein, although I do generally expect a yeast-y flavor and feel in browns (English especially). 3.5

Really light in body with a bitter finish and lingering yeast note. Sweet and creamy up front so you do get a good mix of both. A bit more body would be nice, but otherwise does me well. 3.75

I don't drink too many browns and this doesn't compel me to want more, but it does serve as a gentle reminder there are plenty of redeeming qualities to the style and that an excellent brewery like Schell's can produce a darn good one.

Great brew. The cinnamon doesn't show up, but the oranges do, and it's a good mix of sweet and earthy in the flavor -- the aroma is super sweet for a Jester King farmhouse brew. In fact, the level of sweetness (especially in the nose) suggests a ton of malt ... the oranges can't be doing *all* of that.

Pours near jet black, thin khaki head recedes to a thin cap/ring with some lacing.

Nose is aged roasty malts with bright fruits - ripe cherry is huge. Big on the molasses note, but it says that on the label so might be leading me.

Flavor is fantastic - the cherry and pomegranate are there for sure. But the roasted malt backbone is huge and intact. Vanilla, bourbon, oak, char/smoke, and bright cherries. Residual sweetness, molasses definitely comes through. But so incredibly well rounded. Just a beautiful flavor profile here that really works for me.

Feel is on point - cab level is perfect. Full but not too viscous. Definitely not thin but zero syrupy aspect, generally hate if it's syrupy.

straw , gushing white head, reduces, no legs of note 3.75/5
I have in my nose... fruity notes of banana and apricot, pear
I think a year took away some earthiness tho. 3.75/5
sweet, bready , malty.not too tart ! mellowed with age I think!.
    although a bit tangy. 3.5/5
medium mouthfeel, I think a light mouthfeel would be better.
creamy, and some zest too. 3.25/5
label says would be good with soft cheese ( like camembert )
I would leave that fine French cheese for wine!
    but grilled chicken okay. 3.5/5

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. 2016 vintage. It pours a dark brown color with an amber hue when held up to the light with an off-white head that dissipates to a thin ring around the glass. The aroma is mouthwateringly tart, with dark fruits, cherries, and oak. The taste is not as tart as the nose suggests and really features a nice balance between tart/sweet with caramel malts, dark fruits and oak rounding out the taste. The mouthfeel is light bodied with lively carbonation prickling the tongue and roof of the mouth.

Overall, Oud Bruin from New Glarus is a really well made and complex beer that I thoroughly enjoyed. As someone who does not particularly like overly tart/sour beers, I feel that this one is not over the top and is well balanced with complex flavors/sweetness to offset some of the tartness.

Speaking of the NBS BIF (actually, I wasn't just now, but it's a bit of a sub-theme today), I just received a ninja box of 160oz of canned beer from @SammyJaxxxx, who wasn't even my sender. We've got a great crew of BAs on NBS, and if you doubt that, just look at the NBS BIF thread. The generosity that's been the norm in all three of these BIFs has been amazing!
