I went to APEX Sunday to "research" this topic. They will do half pours of beers served in 12oz sizes. Had AtG One Brazillion Dollars, and got a 6oz pour for $3 (was on the board as $6/12oz). Regarding the upcharge concern, I could be mistaken (I didn't "research" this topic Sunday), but IIRC that's only if you ask for a smaller pour of something offered in 16oz size. IIRC, they will only do a 12oz pour of a 16oz beer, which is why it's not half the price of a 16oz. I'm fairly certain they don't do 8 or 10oz pours of anything, except on rare occasions (ie: Zwanze Day). Pours are generally limited to 6, 12, and 16oz, although they do offer certain German or Belgian styles in .25, .5 and 1 liter pours. This brings me to a final discussion question: Why the hell would anyone want 1L of Boulder Shake on Nitro?

I get 6 Oz pours of whatever at apex, regardless of original size. I don't go at peak times though...

On a different note, this Otto is great!

Alan is 3 for 3... counting putin... "as designed."
But Wendy said the new bright tanks may have something to do with it, but she doesn't know. But I'm happy with the last 3 releases, for sure.

Visiting for 4 days next month.

Portland looks pretty spread out/low density - how do locals get around while having a few drinks?

Cascade/Green Dragon/Commons/Growler Guys looks like a good cluster to start with but if you were heading on to, say, Culmination or Horse Brass would you... walk? Uber? Cycle?

    So many options:
    1. Public transit. A Trimet Day Pass is only $5. Horse Brass is easy. It's a 10-minute ride on the 15 bus down Belmont from Growler Guys. From there, walk a few residential blocks over to Belmont Station on Stark.
    2. Again, public transit. Catch the 70 bus near Growler Guys. A 12-minute ride followed by a short walk will get you to Culmination. From there you can walk down to Sandy Blvd. and take the 12 bus to Laurelwood at Sandy and 51st.
    3. Find another cluster. Walk down 11th towards Division and you'll find Baerlic Brewing, The BeerMongers, and Apex within a few blocks of each other.
    4. Again, find another cluster. Walk down Belmont to Grand and catch the Streetcar to Burnside Brewing or Upright Brewing. And if you're going to Upright, you can walk to Ex Novo.
    5. Combine your options! Find another cluster using public transit. Catch the 6 bus near Growler Guys at Belmont and Grand, and a 15-minute ride will take you to HUB Bike Bar/Lompoc Sidebar/Lompoc 5th Quadrant/Tin Bucket.
    6. Find another cluster using public transit. Take the Streetcar into Downtown Portland. Get off in the Pearl District at 11th and Everett and you'll be very close to Deschutes and Fat Head's. (And Rogue and 10 Barrel, if you're interested.) Then walk to Bailey's Taproom/The Upper Lip.
    7. Bicycle. Biking in Portland is lovely when the weather is nice.
    8. Uber.
Yes, I like public transit. And biking too. Then, at the end of a long, beer-filled day, use Uber.

Hope you enjoy your visit. Portland is a great city.

Walk and public trans and lyft

Just spent a week and did a ton of walking. It's a great walking city. If you plan out your clusters, you can get to most things in a 30 minute walk. Or if it's longer than that, use public trans. Then at the end of the night grab an uber/lyft back.

Absolutely walk if you can. There's a good chance you'll pass more good beer on the way, anyway. For example, on your 1.5 mile walk from Growler Guys to Culmination, you can hit up Loyal Legion, Base Camp, Burnside Brewing. Plus, Portland is a fun walking city because there's a lot to look at and admire.

Uber is a great option if you have to go a good distance though.

My visit coincides with "American Craft Beer Week". Will there be much going on in Portland for that? I looked for event listings but couldn't find much.

Ehhh, will there be stuff going on? Yeah lots of stuff! Will there be stuff going on because of American Craft Beer week? Ehhh, not so much. Portland craft beer week is less than a month after that, and July is Oregon Craft Beer month, so you're getting here during the calmish before the storm.

Thanks for compiling this list; my fiance and I will be heading to Portland in early June and this is going to be a huge help in deciding where to go while there.

One thing not on the list that I'd really like to know about: allergy friendly eateries, especially if they have good tap lists. My fiance has a soy intolerance which makes finding a place to eat, especially in an unfamiliar city, a nightmare. Between soy being ubiquitous and unspecified "vegetable oil" being used on grills and fryers, if we are lucky she can find somewhere to get a bunless burger and a side salad with no dressing. I know Portland has a Fogo de Chao which should be able to accommodate her and I'm sure we'll have a meal there, but they don't really do beer and they definitely aren't a place to stop at multiple times in a week. Any suggestions on places we could look into while out there will be greatly appreciated. I'll even offer up a bounty to anyone who can point us to a good pizza place that doesn't use soy or vegetable oil.

Portland is probably the most accommodating city ever when it comes to food allergies and peculiarities; chances are if you can think of it, someone else has before and it is a food option. Vegan burger with no soy, gluten free and with organic bacon, al cooked in duck fat, I guarantee someone will make that shit for you.

    Cheers and have fun.

Top pizza places: Kens Artisan, Lovelys fifty fifty, apizza Scholls, Lonseome's, Portobello (has great vegan food and I do not think they use soy at all, cashew cheese, and is right next to beer mongers and across from Apex).
Maybe someone can chime in about them using soy or not, but as I said, PDX is pretty down for adjusting things the way you want, well, maybe not apizza scholls:wink:

But, when you are arguably the best pizza in the country, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

You might want to check out Dick's Kitchen (burger place). A friend of mine has a lot of dietary restrictions, but she's able to eat there. They usually have a decent tap list too.
