This is spot-on. After looking for a long time, I finally found one of this style during a recent trip to my hometown: DeuS Brut Des Flandres. I was undecided at first because of the price ($30 for a 750-ml bottle), but then I figured that's about what I'd pay for a decent Napa Cab and pulled the trigger. When I read the owner's manual (!) that explained the brewing, aging, and bottling process, I considered it a bargain. And the high point was being able to share it with my niece while I was home.

    Well Late Night NBS,
I really want to dive back into the reading, but I truly feel compelled to share a great NBS experience. It wasn't the beer(s) per se. It was the NBS-NBF (New Beer Sunday-New Beer Friend)

@ONovoMexicano drove all the way across this urban wasteland that is the greater LA sprawl to bring me some serious goodies, but more importantly, and this is said with no intention to besmirch his fermented generosity, to share his BEING with me. This BA is solid. Such an interesting, reflective, cultured, open, generous, thoughtful, grounded person. I hope many of you get the chance to have an in-person with him.

As for new beers, we tried the 2016 Mocha Wednesday, coffee inspired bliss.
Some interesting pilot beers from the Bruery:
Tropical, a hoppy ale brewed with coconut and passionfruit. Somewhat cloudy, yellow to gold, slight head, with a juicy, slightly citrusy nose that melds into kumquat. Flavor is more juicy tangerine meets apricot with a subtle passionfruit finish. Quite interesting. Not really picking up any coconut.
Tiki: Belgian Ale w/spices, pineapple, coconut, and lime zest. Subtle smell of spice, maybe cardamom, along with some slight lime notes. Taste is slightly belgian yeast, some pineapple, but some beautifully subtle lime zest on the finish.

But best of all...was the conversation and company.

    Cheers NBS

    I'll have what he's having...

My recent BCB Barley Wine experience was not even in the same state as your BCBS...I'm sad for me, but happy for you, Jim.

Yeah, I went there. I was excited hearing about the brewer's pedigree, but was left feeling like i had tried a few good, yet average, beers.

They barely distribute outside of the brewery. Kegs go to NJ and NY. Cans go to maybe 2 dozen stores.

And I need to add, that @ONovoMexicano and I partook in a solid Tripel from Weyerbacher, Merry Monks, courtesy of Mr @Ozzylizard in the glorious chaos otherwise known as NBS BIF#3.

Pours a deep golden amber. Frothy white head leaps from the pour. The nose slightly biscuity malt is notable, but then comes clove and maybe pepper. Taste is a nice balance of malt, some plum, date, clove, and banana, with a smooth funk. Mouthfeel is active and a tad lite. Overall, this is quite good.

Pleasure was all mine. @2beerdogs is a stellar human being. A walking encyclopedia and an all around fascinating individual. For all those that like me religiously partake in New Beer Sunday, I'm sure you can relate to the sentiment that the BAs that post here often feel familiar and like friends.

And it's really awesome to confirm how cool the NBS crowd is my hanging with someone from said thread and sharing some beers.

Derek, you're a remarkably generous BA (this guy treated me to beers at The Bruery and shared some Hoarder's Society stuff... Grey Monday and Mocha Wednesday) and great dude to hang with.

And I will say that that Tropical mentioned above was awesome. Bruery needs to bottle that.
