Aromatic. Approachable. Unique. Intriguing. Happy-go-lucky. Full-bodied. And we’re not just talking about the horse.

This hop-forward session American Pale Ale uses a blend of classic and modern Pacific Northwest hops, including Mosaic, Ekuanot™ (formerly Equinox) and Glacier, for a pungent blend of peach, mango and tropical aromas. The signature ingredient - oats - are what makes Oatsmobile Ale stand apart, and gives it a body that you don’t see in most other sessionable pale ales.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear, medium golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles rising tot eh beer's surface. Had a nice, fluffy, creamy looking white head that's 2/3 of a n inch thick when first poured that eventually settles to a solid 1/5 of an inch thick that coats the beer's surface quite nicely with a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass and very good lacing too. Aromas of citrusy, lemon hops along with a grainy presence that's certainly a bit different from the usual caramel malt notes, so I am guessing this must be from the oats. There is a bit of that caramel malt presence too of course, but aromas wise it seems dialed back here. Has a piney and citrusy, tropical hop bitterness upfront that gives way to the aforementioned graininess from the oats and is rounded out with just a bit of caramel malt sweetness. Not super hoppy or bitter, but the citrusy and piney, tropical hop flavor certainly dominates a bit here. Has a mainly crisp, yet also slightly smooth and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. Has a clean finish with a somewhat dry aftertaste. Easy to drink in a good way. An excellent beer this time of year for what the weather has been like in my area lately and a good beer all around!

2016 notes:

Bell's Oatsmobile. Final bottle from a six-pack, the other 5 long gone. Been putting this off. Far too long. Session Pale Ale brewed with oats. Brewed and bottled by Bell's Brewery, Comstock, MI.

Hazy, golden-hued, slim ivory head atop.

Big citrus-y nose, nicely hopped, malt lurks below.

In the mouth: Smooth, malty, toasty and tasty. Citrus-y hop flavors continue on the palate, easy-drinker, nice and lean and clean. Many pleasures to be had in this one. I'll have another, thanks. (Oh, wait. Oops.)

Had it on tap in a shaker pint glass. Clear yellow color with a decent head and good lacing. Floral smell with lemon. Lemon flavor is fairly strong in the tase. A bit grassy and citrusy. Decent beer.

Reviewed from (very) long-standing notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass. Purchased from a local bottle shop on 7/2/16. Consumed 8/12/16.

A: Hazy gold with good carbonation sensation. Forms a thin white head that fades fairly quickly to spotty foam.

S: Dank, grassy, and citrus rind. A touch of skunked aroma as well over the cracker malts.

T: Grassy and citrus rind hops. Brassy bready malts, and a minerally hard water. Some noble hop vegetal and herbal as well. I swear there’s still a bit of skunk here too. Mildly bitter in the hang.

M: Average heft to the body. Carbonation sensation on the low side of average. Low alcohol presence.

O: Really not very good. I’m not certain if this bottle is "off", but it's been refrigerated and not exposed to light since I’ve had it. And I don’t think it’s old. Very disappointing, though it stops short of seeming undrinkable.

Bottled 4/7/16; drank 5/7/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge white head; a curtain of frothy lace.

Orange citrus, cream & raw oat notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Cream & mild orange citrus flavors up front; dry oat notes on the finish.

Creamy with faint citrus notes, this is interesting but ultimately more of a curio than a good beer. One's enough forever, but in a pinch it won't offend anyone.

This is sort of nasty tasting, im guessing that oats & pale ales are not a good mix well at least not in this beer. Cheers! C-

Pour was yellowish, small head. Grainy aroma. Lots of caramel malt and British style biscuit hops. Not very memorable. Won't be buying this again, in a world of such better choices.
