Dark brown, approaching black, with a wisp of tan head that leaves a thin crown. Malt forward sour aroma with hints of tobacco, black strap molasses and apricot. Very dry, with a light-to-medium bodied mouthfeel and very slight creaminess. Weird mix of flavors, including tobacco, cherries, hops and raw potato followed by a burst of tartness in the aftertaste. Haven't had too many unblended lambics to compare it to, but I've got to imagine the tobacco malt profile here is pretty unique. Not something I'd drink frequently, but worth trying.

Yup, homebrewing Pilsners (Lagers) does require attention to the brewing process. Keep on trying, its worth it!!

Good afternoon to all the NBS followers and many thanks to Maria for getting us off to another wonderful start.
I've had a busy week here in NH as my S.O. had to make an sudden trip to Florida to help out her parents. So I've been trying to finish the loose ends on some projects I've been working on with all the extra quiet time I've had in her absence. I did make it to the Lexington MA. BBQ and Beer fest yesterday and go to meet a couple other BA's there. Lots of good BBQ and some really good beers from such breweries as Other Half, Deciduous and Trillium. There were also some Bourbon County being poured as well as KBS from founders. Good food, good music, good beer and new friends it was a good day.
As I was leaving I handed off a few beers to @RuckIt for a charity LIF box he was putting together and he handed me this beer which is my new beer for today, Thanks Dave!

This beer poured a hazy golden color into my glass. About a 1/2" head formed on top which disappeared quickly.
There is a good amount of lacing left on the glass.
The nose is of tropical fruits more to the mango and papaya, there is a certain earthiness in the background.
The taste is more towards the papaya with a nice amount of bitterness coming through in the end.
The mouthfeel is smooth with good carbonation.
This is another great beer from Treehouse. If the lines weren't usually so long I'd be temped to get more from them.

Hope you all have the chance to enjoy the rest of this great day.

Another busy Sunday on hand, but taking a break to check out Carnal Knowledge from Tyranena that comes to me courtesy of @egrace84.

Everything I've tried from these guys has been outstanding and this is no exception. Big aroma of chocolate, coffee, oats, and vanilla with flavors to match. Thick and chewy and a slightly roasty bitterness in the finish. Recommended for sure.

Good afternoon NBSers! What a nice day it's turned out to be over here. They were calling for rain, but luckily the weatherman was wrong. Again. As usual. So, being the go-getting that I am (don't you laugh at that) I decided it was a prime opportunity to paint the kitchen. Tore up the old linoleum floor last weekend, and am currently waiting for the new floor to arrive from Lowes (should be by the end of the week). One thing leads to another, ya know? It started with the floor. Just the floor. But now I'm painting. Oh yeah, and next weekend I'm replacing the cabinets and countertops. Oh yeah, and installing a new light fixture. The wife said so.

In all seriousness, though, this kitchen does need the rennovation. Our house was built in '63 and it's still very much outdated in a few places, kitchen and bathroom mainly. I should have did this 2 years ago when we bought thr place, but..y'know.

Anyway, anyway, new beer today. This one's helping me out in between coats of paint. Always a treat to try something new from my favorite local brewery. This weeks it's some jalapenos! Cheers!

Bottle into a snifter. Pitch black body with brown highlights 'round the bottom edge. 2 fingers of mocha-colored foam tops this behemoth off. The nose is an interesting combo of roasted malt and chocolate, paired equally with raw jalapeno peppers. There's an unmistakable oaky sweetness that says that, yes, this was infact aged in bourbon barrels. Upon tasting, it would seem this is nothing more than a standard imperial porter. Big notes of malt, chocolate, and caramel initially that slowly give way to a sweet, mild booziness. But wait. What's this familiar vegetal tingling? It's getting stronger. Oh my, hey that's some freshly diced jalapenos! Waddaya know. The spiciness isn't overpowering at all (ie. Nacho Bait), but rather provides a unique balance to the metric asston of roasted malt mentioned earlier. Not that I was expecting this to be bad, but I am pleasantly suprised. Wonderfully balanced. The mouthfeel is chewy and dense, but a good carbonation bite is felt on the finish.

Really interesting, and very good. The base beer is good, but aging this guy in barrels just takes it to another level.

Morning NBSers! Had a nice little bottle share yesterday with some friends, where plenty of new-to-me brews were had including: Unibroue Grande Reserve 17, a 15-ish year old Bells Cherry Stout, a 6-year old Lindemans Framboise, a 2010 McRogue Wee Heavy, 2015 War & Peace by Fulton, a carrot Belinereisse (?!?) from Woodland Empire, and a bunch of other stuff. A friend and I have plans to head south to Skagit county and hit Farmstrong Brewing, so Hopefully I'll be back later with a couple new thing to report on. Cheers, and happy NBS!

Saranac 1914 Legacy IPA, This beer is a revival of an IPA brewed over 100 years ago by FX Matt Brewing. I find this brew to be more than a little different from most IPAs today. Legacy has a pale orange color and a thin white head. The aroma is of bread and citrus. The taste is malt and citrus with a nice bitter finish. The body is a bit light but still solid. This is by no means a hop bomb but it is hoppy. The hops used are Centennial. 6.5 ABV no IBU number given. It's a very nice IPA and well worth trying. As with all Saranac beers inexpensive at $7.99.

    Perennial Sump

Last one for a while today. Sump is jet black with a thin mocha-colored head that quickly fades to a modest crown.

It has a creamed coffee aroma with fruity notes, and vanilla, chocolate and some slight bourbon behind. There's a big coffee flavor, dark with a little char, and chocolate and cherry in the aftertaste. It's medium bodied with appropriately strong carbonation.

Definitely solid, but not worth the prices it commands in Pennsylvania. Glad to try it, but equally glad I passed on this at the bottle shop.

    New American Wild Ale Sunday
    Greetings NBSer's,
Gorgeous day in SCMN. Even a tad warm. Lost the slight coolness of a couple of days ago, but the morning and evenings are simply lovely.
A perfect day for a lovely beer, I'd say. This one courtesy of @cjgiant via NBS BIS#3. Poured into a glass from @beertunes via NBS BIF#2. Thanks to both.
A nice wild ale with a touch of age.
The age seems to increased the tartness very nicely. Not much peach in the aroma but it lingers and mingles nicely in the taste. This is very nice indeed.

Good afternoon NBSer's. My first beer for today is this much heralded wee heavy aged in bourbon barrels.

I nearly didn't buy this beer due to it's exorbitant price tag. Still after nearly choking on the price tag, I sucked it up and determined to give it a shot despite the 26$.

L- The beer pours a deep caramel with a modest one finger off white head. Lacing is patchy and when tipped back can be seen to be formed with many fine bubbles.
S- The barrel aging dominates the nose. It is full of oaky vanilla and bourbon. The alcohol can be detected faintly behind it all. The barrel aging on this beer is superb.
T- Diving into the beer, the first thought I have is how smooth it seems. There are vanilla and caramel notes in spades. The bourbon lingers to the finish with a slight alchohol bite.
F-The carbonation is light but prickly. This combined with the alcohol bite in the finish, makes the beer finish dry. Overall mouthfeel is on the higher side of medium.
O- On the merits of execution I find this beer to be every bit as good as Backwood's Bastard. However the exorbitant price difference makes me lean towards Backwood's Bastard as the better overall value. Still I wouldn't hesitate to enjoy this beer if you can handle price. It's a superb barrel aged wee heavy.

    Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale

Appearance is light hazy yellow with white cap and good lacing. The aroma is a good combination of floral hops and sweet malt. Taste is clean, clear, malt forward flavor with well integrated hop influence. Hits the correct notes right on pitch. Makes me want to sing along. Great finish with just the right hop touch.

The Galaxy hops here used are a good choice which nicely cover without smothering the malt. Well played.

Happy to be back posting for NBS. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. I'm glad to be sitting outside again today after last night's soaking. Anyway, I was lucky enough to up in Maine last weekend and brought some goodies back. This one is a saison Movable Type (bottle conditioned for a year with brett) from Foundation. Love their beers but sad that the next time I visit Bissell Bros will not be right next door. Oh well, on with the beer. Bit of a gusher when first opened. Cloudy orange color with lots of carbonation. First whiff is earthy but complemented with lemon and funk. Taste is nice. A bit of white wine, a little citrus and some more funk. Kind of creamy and thick, since the ABV is up there (7.9%). I think the year aging made this beer a little more interesting than your usual saison. Definitely recommended. Wish I bought more than one bottle!

That beer sounds intriguing. I haven't heard of Country Boy before, I'm guessing they're local to you. I'm pretty ignorant of the beer scene in your state. All the time I've spent in Kentucky was in a dry town with relatives who thought alcohol was the devil!

Happy NBS! It is spectacular here in Southern WI. I have been busy building raised garden beds that will replace an older one. I won't have time to check back in later today as I will be a campfire cookout with my family. Hope everyone has a terrific day filled with great new beer.

Thanks to @jhavs for today's offering! Knockout Blonde pours clear and yellow with a soft white 2 finger head and spotty lacing on my glass. Aroma is very green and leafy with some light bready malt and yeast. Flavor is hoppy with a green taste (almost like a wet hopped beer) with some leafiness and grassiness. The malts are light and there is a touch of yeast to round it off. Very light feel and lower ABV that makes it ideal for warm weather. Well hopped and flavorful.

Good afternoon NBS, Thanks to Maria for another beautiful description, and insightful facts to start us off today.
It is always a pleasure to read your work. Today is yard day, and some cemetery work. Yard is done and a break has ensued. I am really enjoying Frequency of the Sky by Mystic Brewing. A wonderful dry hoped sour ale. The tartness and chalky texture are simply delightful. Low ABV and lots of flavor.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 750ml bottle marked 000319 into a tulip glass,
A - Lemon drop yellow in color, slightly hazy, marauding carbonation piles upward. The accumulated cap of bright white tight knit froth rides the entire time.
S - Musty straw, chalk, young wheat, forsythia in bloom, some traces of lemongrass, mingle with orange blossom. The aromatics are delicate and enticing.
T - A wonderful mineral, tartness, light grains, mingle effortlessly with bright hop flavors, German Huell Melon comes to mind. All the flavors a wrapped tightly with the slight acidity as the overall driver here.
M - Super light, super dry, super delicious, The start runs right down the middle of the palate, the tongues edges roll up as the sour parades through, then the amazing chalky dry finish pushes its way through, Not to be out done the linger is tart and endless. The carbonation is relentless and adds an airy quality to the experience.
O - A superbly well constructed offering from Mystic, light in its ABV 3.9%, Complex aromatics, bold on the palate. and pretty easy on the eyes as well.
    Worth seeking out.
