Defining "beer geek"?

Not a beer geek.....not yet....but I'm learning

 

Do we need to make this complicated I just love beer.

 

So I'm a sports nut, music freak and now beer nerd/geek...I'll take it

 

As long as the beer geeks remember that Jim Koch was there first.

But that beer was "brewed with an entire rooster". Wouldn't just brewing with the head(s) result in a more nuanced beer!?!

They didn't really brew a beer with a whole chicken, that's silly. They didn't really do that did they? Reminds me of Seinfeld when Steinbrenner sold Costanza to Tyler chicken for a fermented alcoholic chicken drink.

 

Yeah, writing blog posts about beer/culture is such a complete waste of time. Almost as worthless as posting on a beer/culture forum.

 

A beer geek cares deeply about what he/she is drinking. A beer snob cares deeply about what others are drinking (and usually has an opinion as to why it's not as good as what he/she is drinking.)

 

I'd say someone who's petty about all things beer related. eg. Glassware, brands, beer types, etc.

Or an alcoholic

 

Reading the definition of geek vs. nerd (complete with pic of comic-book-guy and professor Frink) I couldn't help but think about the current thread about saving bottles and cans of worthy beers.

Since I don't fit either the geek or nerd profile, I asked my 26 year old friend, "What kind of beer person am I?" Her reply, "A grumpy ass old beer guy". Yep, that's me. I don't care to stand in line for the latest 'Gotta Have it', whales are only in the ocean (sorry), I don't 'collect' beers, I don't agonize over, nor belittle, what others like to drink, and I sometimes drink from the bottle.

Beer is good. Beer is for drinking. Beer is for sharing. Why do humans insist on labeling everything and making life needlessly complicated?

 

A beer snob knows he is right and is mildly amused that anyone would disagree.

 

I used to tell non craft beer people I was a beer geek. Now, after reading that, I will tell them I'm a beer nerd.
