I mean, regular central waters ba beers and bcbs is pretty dang good, but if you can't do a Pepsi challenge and pick out sr71 vs cw18 or bcbs then I really have to question your palate. The mouthfeel alone is a dead giveaway.

Is that what you win? One bottle? 2? Are they $50?

It was a serious question and I was wondering what the details were

As I said, I don't chase. Of course, you could send me those and I'll let you know what I think of them!

My apologies. You get one bottle, $50. I'm guessing about 300 bottles total so this one is KBBS rare. I'm guessing it's a 22 oz or 750 ml bottle. Beer was aged for 35 months in 27 year old barrels.

Man, do you know how many Treehouse beers or Sip of Sunshines it's going to take to land this one? Its gotta be like almost a six-pack, right?

"KBBS rare" mean nothing if it tastes like crap. Naughty Temple is extremely boozy tasting, I can't imagine the same beer with additional months or years in a barrel. Undrinkable in my book. I struggled to drink a couple ounces of Naughty Temple a couple years ago when it was fresh.

I thought NT was amazing fresh. To each their own though.

I definitely respect your opinion, but for bourbon/rye drinkers, the more whiskey taste, the better. Especially when it's coming from a 27 year Heaven Hill barrel; there are just so few of those out there. I think this was a very hedonistic project for Mike.

It's my shitty understanding of barrel aging that you get a lot of bourbon/rye initially upon the beer going into the barrel.

The longer it spends in the barrel the more oak/barrel character it picks up as the beer is allowed to penetrate further into the wood and has more time in contact with the barrel.

I bet Mike wants to come in here and give his take on it. Let's just wait.

I know the word "hedonistic" can apply here, but whenever I hear it, I think of backstage at a Stones concert in say, 1975.

Then I imagine that kind of scene at the TG brewhouse, and I giggle to myself.

I enjoy fairly bourbon forward beers as well, but I don't think it is as simple as "more whiskey == better beer". If it was, I could just dump a bunch of bourbon in a base stout without even needing to put it in a barrel. And as mrpeterandthepuffers pointed out, most of the whiskey characteristics come through pretty quickly. Beyond that, you are pulling out notes from the barrel itself. Beyond that, you are mostly just adding oxidation. There is definitely a point when leaving it in the barrel isn't making it better.

However, Mike and the rest of the guys at TG have shown they are willing to dump barrels when they aren't up to standards so we have every reason to believe this beer is going to live up to their reputation.

I don't know these guys at all, but I'm going to guess he's the Jagger and Mike's the Keith.

Business on one hand, art on the other. A formidable team.

Bingo. They're not going to put out a barrel aged beer that sucks.

Have we forgotten about ReGifter already? It was originally supposed to be King Sue but it wasn't right...like at all... so they sold it under a new name for $25 a growler. Also, I think SR-71 was a barrel of Assassin that they forgot about when Mike left so they called it something else. I don't think they'd dump barrels if they aren't up to standard....just re-name.

Regifter happened during the Mikeatus, but SR-71 was first released several years prior.

Regifter was hoppy as well, not barrel aged. Therefore, no barrel to dump.
