Heading to DC in mid July to catch the Pirates series and hit some museums with my kids. Coming down from Pittsburgh. Any breweries that can/bottle and dont distribute out of the area that I should hit up? Any releases scheduled by chance July 16th I could hit up? Also best place to eat that has a great draft list and good food. Any help would be appreciated.

I would check out these threads for bottle shop/bar/restaurant recommendations. For food and beer I would recommend Sovereign for Belgian beers and Belgian food, Pizzeria Paradiso for variety of good beer and pizza (great place for kids since they serve pizza):

Check this thread back in July to see whats getting released around 7/16. I highly recommend Aslin and Ocelot, but keep in mind they are about 45 mins south of DC:

@SublimeDisco is right re: Aslin and Ocelot. easier stuff to get in the District that probably doesn't make it there is cans of RAR's Nanticoke Nectar and DC Brau's On the Wings of Armageddon. churchkey is one of the best beer bars, not particularly kid friendly tho.

Where are you staying and how far are you/your family willing to go out of your way?

On a random note, my parents live in Pittsburgh and are also visiting me for this series. Cheers!

Thanks for all the help so far fellas, I'll give these a good look over as I plan our days out.

We are staying in Alexandria and since my kids can't drink and my wife has no appreciation for a good beer I am limited in how far and how many places I can drag them.

Port City Brewery is in Alexandria about a mile from King St. metro (off Duke st.). They did have a food truck both times I was there. (not in the same level as Ocelot & Aslin)

Places with good draft beer list in Alexandria are plenty along King St. I have been to Vermillion & Hank's Oyster Bar, both family and kids friendly and both have decent beer selections.

Your wife will kill you if you try to drive out to Aslin or Ocelot.

There's a Rustico location in Alexandria as well that will probably have the best tap list in town. Not right in Old Town but easy enough to get to. They have decent food that could probably satisfy the wife and kids too.

Not really but you can take the silver line to the last stop and it will get you close. There might be a bus or an Uber from there.

But FYI, that would be a LONG trip on metro, and metro is also FUBAR of late. http://www.wmata.com/rail/safetrack.cfm

Bluejacket is only a few blocks away from the stadium. Quality ranges from okay to pretty good (with the occasional miss). Things can get crowded on game days, but you can head to the bottle shop and bypass the throngs. You can probably snag a sixer of something local from the Harris Teeter around the corner, too. Depends on your time constraints.

And I'll second the Churchkey rec. They're actually part of the same restaurant group.

Was going to say Blue Jacket, you can make a reservation and hit it before the game, have a table for your family. Wife can drink wine or other beverages while you sample their beer. Make a reservation early and don't worry about the crowds.

One spot in Alexandria is Del Ray Pizzeria, good place to take a family and they have a good beer list as well as other drinks for non beer drinkers.

RightProper is family friendly and is, imo, the one place to go if you had just one chance for a single beer-related outing. Your kids will spend an hour looking at the mural.

I would just note that the Brookland production facility is much more kid-friendly than the Shaw brewpub. You should be fine on the latter though, as long as you don't show up after 7p on Friday/Saturday (as it gets mobbed with a younger crowd).

That's a good point. I haven't been to the Brookland facility and my family visits have been limited to before 7pm.

i'll 2nd or 3rd the bluejacket before a game idea, and agree that you should make a reservation. i was there on a weekend with no baseball and seating was difficult (it was also a little cold and rainy so people werent on the patio).

100% make a reservation if you plan on going to Bluejacket. Nats play home July 16 & 17. Place is an F'ing zoo on Nats game days.

The Big Stick near the stadium will have some Union Craft and it is right across the street from the metro exit. I was there last week and they had double duckpin, snowpants and pajama pants. They also get Manor Hill, Right Proper, DC Brau, Port City, Hellbender, etc.

    http://thebigstick.com/drinks/

They do tap takeovers of the visiting team's brewery whenever the Nats are home. For example, when the Nats hosted the Phillies The Big Stick had a Victory tap takeover.
