What beer are you drinking now? #1366

Thirsty, and this hits the spot.

 

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Weather is looking good until the end of the evening, so I am probably going to do some trail riding again today. 3.5 hours yesterday was a great ride.

This is insane! Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, fudge, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak; with light smoke, char, licorice, and raisins. Balanced bittersweet and spicy bourbon/oak finish. Full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel with lightly drying tannic oak character. Warming, but not boozy finish. This is a bigger on the barrel presence than the 2014 I reviewed earlier this year; but this is still just as amazing.


Amazing DIPA. Flavors of huge peach, apricot, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, papaya, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pine, and peppery hops; moderate cracker/biscuit/light honey malt; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/spicy bitterness; medium-plus bodied; crisp/sticky/resinous mouthfeel with light grainy creaminess as well. Moderate increasing resin dryness after the finish; zero lingering hop astringency. Insanely drinkable for 9%, lightly warming finish. Wish we got Troegs up here, this is something I will definitely pick up again next time I am in Ohio.


Incredible as usual. Big flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso beans, fudge, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, almond, and light smoke. Bittersweet roasted finish; full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel and light chalky dryness. Super smooth and lightly warming finish. Glad that these are in cans now(along with Even More Jesus), much better price; though the price is still twice as much in Michigan than other states for the format, still worth it.

Ecliptic • Oort Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout

 

Draai Laag R2 Koelschip. A Wild Ale/Saison combo from Pennsylvania (don't let the Flemish name fool you). Inoculated with wild yeast in a koelschip (as per Belgian tradition) this beer has all the right funky aromas and flavors. The nose gives you hints of sourness and barnyard. The flavor is of mild sourness, hints of sweetness and definitely funkiness. Mouthfeel is of smooth carbonation and surprisingly thick. Appearance is murky orange and with not much of a head. Overall a great beer and for a price that is a fraction of what one would pay for equivalent imports.

 

A complimentary Michelob Ultra at the Rock and Roll 10k/half marathon in Chicago. I did nothing to earn it except wake up early and drive the team here. Too much distance for my creaky bones so I sat this one out to cheerlead and take photos. No shame in my game this morning!

 

LAST NIGHT I capped it off with some local stuff, including a free ligtning show over the water. The beer was great. The Corona cigar not so much, but I digress


Not even sure what the hell this mug means, but it was my favorite piece of condo glassware from a very uninspiring collection. I always open up the cupboards and find some weird, cool stuff.
