Sounds like a party. But why am I not included when you're letting in all these "foreigners?" After all, I'll be the one bringing the Iron Goat (and probably sneaking in some Selkirk Abbey).

Every city of more than 1,000 residents should have a Funkatorium. Congress needs to get on that, pronto!

I didn't want to overstep my bounds. I just arbitrarily increased the board from 3 to 5 members. NWer and I are there to provide grumpy old guy demographic a voice, draheim is there as the voice of reason, Utopiajane will be bringing the snacks, and cavedave is there to provide the Quality Assurance program to the Cannabis side of the board. Perhaps you kould be our Kowboy Kountry Konsultant.

Enjoying this Three Floyds beauty thanks to a buddy whose mother recently returned from a trip to Indiana. Help me out, BA. How is this different from Zombie Dust? I've had both, but not together. I seem to recall (from three days ago) ZD being lighter and more citrus forward and less malty, probably because it's all citra. Can anyone give me the beer geek differences, @Prager62 ?

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a 16 oz tulip. Pours an orangish/a color with minimal white head. There is decent lacing, although almost no head retention. The smell is citrus, orange, lemon, and pine, but nothing seems to dominate. The mouthfeel is heavy carbonation, with a dry finish. The taste is piney hops, with a slightly bitter, dry finish. The citrus seems to take a backseat in this one. Getting a malty backbone that fits very nicely. Overall a really well made APA. I'd like to try this next to Zombie Dust to compare.

Good afternoon BA, glad to rejoin NBS after a few weeks off! I have a couple new beers to share with you guys today.

First up is a bottle of 2014 Tripel Brun by Overshores out of CT. I've only had one other beer by this brewery, their Belle Fermiere saison/Belgian style pale ale. It was quite good, so I'm interested in what this is like.

Pours a ruddy, slightly-translucent brownish color with a very short lasting, off-khaki head that sinks to pretty much nothing after only about 20 seconds in my glass. Hmm, not the best note to start off on, that's for sure... especially considering my recollection of Belle Fermiere is that its pour blew my mind. Perhaps this is just too old at this point to really retain the vivacity of its youth, though at 9.5% and bottle-conditioned it should probably age well enough. Once I add the lees from the bottom of the bottle to my glass, the head seems to come alive a bit, though it's still quite compact. Retention for what is there is solid, however.

Nose is coarse brown sugar, wheat bran, fig, brown bread and dusty yeast with some lighter notes of sourdough rye bread and baking spice (nutmeg and clove). Slight wet cardboard. Yeast isn't as prominent as other examples bigger Belgian-style beers, even as far as American renditions go. Not bad but definitely seems to be showing its age for some reason. Malt/residual sugar forward profile with only very slight ethanol. So far, my prediction is that it'll drink like breadier, sweeter version of a Belgian strong dark ale but with less focus on phenolic yeast than something like, say, Delirium Nocturnum.

Palate is very malt-dominant with a somewhat rough-shod combination of hefty molasses, spice and brown bread. Similar to what I expected from the nose, for sure. Syrupy sweet at first but with a sort of drying finish. Some dark fruit qualities blended in with the breadiness and doughy yeast as well. A bit of toffee and treacle with an earthy, herbal-ish hop bite towards the end of each sip. Solid stuff, actually. The bottle was only 375 mL (cork & cage) and it was a bit pricey at $7.99, but this one's growing on me over the course of the glass. Doubtful I'd want more than one of them, but it's a good beer. Not sure it really hits the profile of a tripel, considering the dark color, lack of prominent esters and ostensibly high(ish) FG, but it's a very drinkable Belgian brown/BSDA hybrid in my opinion.

For whatever reason, I'm on a vaporwave/chill kick today. Been digging around some collected works by Ramona A. Xavier (aka Vektroid) and stumbled upon this bizarre album by her under a different artist name. Basically, it's chopped-and-screwed smooth jazz with a retro-80s feel and a mildly-creepy sinister element that creeps out every now and then. Most of the music is sampled, as most vaporwave seems to be, but it's fun, weird and a bit subversive. The whole culture behind this music bemuses me for whatever reason.

I'll be back. May take another walk before I do, however: Pokémon Go mania has caught up to me (though I've always been an unabashed Pokémon fan)!

I decided to deviate from my LIF box plan, as the couple remaining bottles weren't quite what I was in the mood for, so I popped this guy that I grabbed on a whim a couple weeks ago, at a decent price. A little bit of a miss from one of the consistently better breweries in my region: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19765/186119/

Happy Sunday NBS players. A hot an hazy summer day here on the island with zero threat of rain. Spent most of the day getting a bunch of yard work done, watching/listening to some mets bball, and now I'm settling in for some beers.

I have two new beers from the same new brewery of Flying Monkey which is located in Barrie Canada. I had never even heard of these guys when I saw them on the shelf this week. My first new beer is Smashbomb ipa which features citra hops. It comes in at 6% abv, 72ibu's, and a bottle dating of 6/23/16.

A pure amber pour with major clarity and a froth white head. The nose is very subtle with malts and hops. Not very floral at all. A bitter hoppy start which turns to a malty undertone and then back to a bitter hoppy finish. I mostly get the citra upfront with it's distinct fruity characters but it is also pretty muted out with the malt backbone. The malt also adds a sweet bready flavor. Flavor notes of pine, citrus, lemon, grapefruit, bready malts, and sweet sugars. The mouth feel is moderate and clean.

Overall, not bad. If you really enjoy a balanced ipa then this is highly recommended. I for one am not a huge fan of the balanced style and would have really like to see the citra hops shine more. I'm right around a 3.5.

I just got back into Cleveland (though wish I could have stayed away another week) from hotLanta (apparently hot is translated Ata in the south) and after enjoying the brews I was drinking there managed to bring a few back with me. Orpheus' dry hopped sour impressed me in particular so this was the first I opened
    [IMG]
A nice sour saison, definitly unique, overall very good but doesn't quite make great. Nice and fresh canned less than two weeks ago. 4s across the board
12oz can dated 7/5/16 poured into a tulip
A: Pours a unique peach skin/peach flesh folor (light orange with some white) and a one--finger head
S: Wheat, plum, strawberry and lemon; sour across the board
    T: Wheat, plum, lemon, yeast
    M: Light to medium-bodied, sour
O: This is solid. A saison but with a nice sourness. Tasty and easy to drink

Well, my wife and her sister took one niece for a pedicure. The other niece is playing with my two kids. I'm enjoying another beer. Hmmm, I'm hearing kids come upstairs. Time to close my door:wink:

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a 16 ounce tulip. Pours a beautiful orange color with minimal white head and lacing. The smell is immediately sour and strong peach. The mouthfeel is heavily carbonated, a bit sticky, but appropriate for a sour. The taste is sour and fruity. The peach is strong along with apple and a sweetness I'm assuming comes from the pomegranate. There is also a salty flavor that really covers through on the backend. Very enjoyable. Thanks @Prager62

I scored one of those from @richj1970 in the most recent NBS BIF. Nicely tasty brew, wouldn't mind if I were having one right now.
