I love coffee. The idea of crisp coffee beers that are pale is very exciting. The IPA with coffee has to be done right. You have to know and appreciate the half grapefruit toast and coffee breakfast. =) The vienna lager seems to like coffee and so does the cream ale. That's one i never would have imagined. A cream ale with coffee.

I definitely get the complaints and I feel that as an adjunct it is teetering on being played out.

With that being said, Founders Sumatra Mountain and Huss Brewing Co Koffee Kolsch were two the more interesting and well made beers that I've tried this year and I now buy the Koffee Kolsch frequently. It has to be done right and many dont. Like people have said, it tends more toward the gimmick side of the craft movement but when it's done well it can be fantastic in the sense that it adds an extra layer of goodness to a style that I love as opposed to bashing it over the head and ramming down my throat the fact that this is a hip coffee beer that im supposed to like. Cheers!

Have you had Mikkeller Beer Hop Breakfast? Granted, it's a black IPA that leans more toward stout territory, but its coffee, stout, and citrusy hop aspects meld together to taste like chocolate-covered orange peel. It blew my mind how well it worked.
I have yet to try any other coffee IPAs, but I'm probably going to pick up some Stone Mocha IPA on my next beer trip.

I am with the too much coffee crowd. I enjoy coffee and I also enjoy coffee beers....to a degree. At some point the consumers will vote with their feet and out choices of big beers without coffee should increase.

I don't like drinking coffee but I LOVE smelling it :stuck_out_tongue:

But I don't mind coffee in beers at all. At least the ones I have tried so far were delicious and the blend was perfect.

Not a fan of the coffee IPAs, but I like coffee in all my dark beers. With that said, I like a smoother coffee presence, rather than the bitter coffee some beers have. Good examples for the bitter coffee beers for me is V@S. Too bitter for my liking, it ruins the beer for me. I had several variants, but all I could keep tasting was the burnt, over roasted coffee beans.

I dreaded searching the beer database for "tea" but had to do it, and good god tea beer is a thing. Just waiting for beer flavored Mio.

Don't care for them and no one's forcing me to drink them, so what's the big deal?

Well if you're in lust with trying all the newest beers (and minimizing repeats) and suddenly they all seem to have coffee in them.... :-)

It's certainly a better trend than session IPAs and fruit IPAs.

I think coffee works well with stout/porters and brown ales. Everything else (cream ales, IPAs, etc.) is a reach to me.

As others have indicated, I want my coffee, my juices and my beers separate.

I drink my coffee strong and black.
I drink my juices in small portions for their benefits.
I drink my beers to explore the flavors of varous hops and malt combinations.

So I avoid mixed drinks in favor of beer.

I like coffee beers, adding any adjunct doesn't automatically make it work, like fruit to an IPA or coffee to a stout. If not we'll done it doesn't work, and it doesn't make a mediocre base better. Thinking some Brewers use it as a crutch or a short cut to a well done beer. It's just a mediocre beer with fruit or coffee in it, it's a delicate compliment not the star.

I like coffee in beer when it's not taking a dominating role in a bourbon barrel aged stout... and nowhere else.

James Bean in my opinion is a great beer and I believe it has been around for a while. This is the first time its been bottled.

I've had a few tea beers, and thought they actually worked fairly well. Especially with styles like Old Ales or Strong Ales that sometimes have a bit of a leather note in them.

I'm twisting your statement, but I think it takes very little imagination for brewers to conceive of a recipe based off a pun or existing connection. Hence the coffee beers with oats as well.

    Yeah, sincerely
With the popularity of pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin beer I'm actually surprised I haven't seen a pumpkin spice latte stout yet.
