Searched through forum and have gotten a couple good recommendations but I'm also a bit overwhelmed by the scale of New York and how many places there are to go. I'll be staying next to Madison Square Garden, which I guessing is Midtown? Be there for roughly 3 days.

I've had very few northeast or New York beers being from west coast so I'm looking for locations to sample, do flights and small 4oz or 5oz pours. I'm not after chasing whales or dealing with big crowds. In terms of beer styles I'm not too into sours but everything else works. Looking for a bottle shop as well.

    Potential craft bars:
    Haymaker
    Ginger Man
    Rattle N Hum
    Pony Bar

Any of these fit Or don't fit what I'm after? Each seems to have a good tap list online.

    Breweries:
All seem to be in Brooklyn which while a bit far away isn't too bad for a trip one day. If I had to pick two out of these what would you recommend:

Other Half (worried place is too small, crowded and most out of the way)
    KCBC
    Threes
    Keg and Lantern
    Strong Rope
Sixpoint - is there actually a location? Have liked their beers but doesn't seem to be one on BA.

    Thanks everyone!!

Gingerman is your best bet for 4/5oz flights.

If you are there on Sat or Sun (which is usually the case for me), you need to make a day out of Brooklyn/Queens. A lot of potential itineraries, but I'm planning something along these lines for my next day trip:
    - from Midtown, train out to Singlecut in Queens (a bit of a pain, but it gets you to the right part of town)
    - train to LIC Beer Project
    - G to Greenpoint
    - L to Interboro
    - Cab/train down to Gowanus area for Threes and Other Half leftovers

Locals might be able to figure a better routing than what I've come up with.

Your best bet for flights is to do "As Is" on 50th and 10th, then walk to Pony Bar 45th and 10th, then walk down to Haymaker 29th and 8th. If you want to do a brewery (which I understand why but personally don't think is worth your time) then go to LIC beer project and hit up alewife and/or Jeffrey on your way out.

If you want stay in the general midtown area GingerMan, Haymaker, and Lupulo are your best bets. I'm not a fan of Rattle N Hum but if you've never been it could be worth it to pop through since it's a few blocks from GingerMan. If you wanted to venture somewhat East and into the 60's you can hit the Jeffrey, Treadwell Park (great food), and City Hops (bottle shop).
If you want the most bang for your buck in Manhattan you should go to the East Village/Lower East Side. There you have Fools Gold, One Mile House, Coopers, Good Beer, Milk & Hops Astor Place, Top Hops, and Whole Foods Bowery. On that run you'd probably see most of the distribution the city has to offer.
If you do the Brooklyn Brewery run you can do Interboro and KCBC which are close together. Or you head to park slope and do Other Half and Threes. You could also go to Owl Farm and Mission Delores which are great bars which are also in the slope and between OH & Threes.
If you go to Queens Singlecut and LIC Beer Project are a short Uber ride away from each other and you could probably hit one of the two Astoria Beer and Cheese. Also, check all the hours and days open for the breweries. Most aren't open everyday and most open later in the day.

Great advice everyone, really appreciate it!

Of all the good craft beer bars being listed around Midtown any that are better (or worse) for sports watching? Will have the father in law with me and he's not a huge craft fan but is a huge sports fan so could entice with a good spot to soak in college football Saturday.

I am certainly sure that AS is NYC and Haymaker wont serve 4oz flights. That being said they are fantastic places to visit for full pours.
