Soooo.... apparently, 3Floyds put out Marshmallow Handjee '16 on draft yesterday from opening until the keg kicked. Anyone get a chance to have this delicious nectar? What else did they put out?

 

It was on from their dinner party Monday night. The muerte variant was on tap as well. Nice well kept secret for the locals yesterday.

 

Can anyone who went to the Dark vs Light dinner confirm what beers were paired for both the light and dark pairings?

I know Chicago is BA beer'd out right now with Benthic, Ground Control and BCBS releases so I know no one is interested that the brewpub has a BA Warpigs stout to go posted.

I think that DLD has jumped the shark. Last year, I don't remember what the beers were, but there were several times that people would open a highly sought after, but hard to get bottle and my friends and I would be the only ones responding when the person would ask if anyone wanted some. Most would just stare with no idea what was being offered. That is the most obvious example, but there were many things like this that happened. I will admit that it has been better organized every year since 2012.

 

HOW DARE THEY NOT KNOW EVERY WHALE!?! Should be punishable by death!

 

Depending on how late in the day it was, I will admit to have a blank look on my face and passing on pours.

 

The probably were scared they were going to get roofied and have their beer stolen....

 

DLD has pretty high visibility amongst the BCBS chasing crowd. Not to say they all have a lower consciousness about craft beers than other beer geeks, but many get their rocks off on a couple high awareness big beers a year, then go back to sipping scotches, whiskeys and cocktails.

 

Well, I drank everything handed to me last year, and that didn't end well.

I will admit that there were plenty of people nearby walking around with half-empty bombers in their hand. Granted they weren't all whales, but one guy had BA Darkness for like half an hour. That ain't right!

I'm thinking about bringing smaller bottles for that reason, though I'll probably still have bombers when I pack.

 

It's not about knowing every whale, but there were some pretty well known ones that got 99% blank stares. I'm sorry, but 2-3 years ago at least 50% of people would have been happy to have a pour in a similar situation. And it wasn't just like 10 people were near. It would be like us 6 out of 50 people that knew what was being offered. I use to love going to DLD because I wasn't the outlier in the group there (extreme beer geek).

I don't understand what how "I liked this thing and nobody else wanted it" becomes a problem worth calling out. Not everyone cares about the beer you or I care about.
