is officially a thing. I happened upon a six pack of it at Trader Joe's today. Bottled Nov. 30, 2016.

I was going to wait for NBS before sharing this, but interestingly Anchor makes no mention of Liberty IPA on it's website, which struck me as odd. I vaguely recall the signage in Trader Joe's stating something to the effect it's a limited release.

Got me thinking maybe this will go away as soon as it came. The literature states "Liberty IPA is the re-imagining of craft brew classic Liberty Ale, evisioned through the lens of today's IPA's ...."

It's at least as good as Liberty Ale, IMO.

They did a tease on what looks to be this very beer today on their social media (see below). Maybe that was a limited test run of the new beer? Reading the label it does seem possible that Liberty Ale will be no more sadly ("predecessor"). As a fan of Liberty Ale this would be a bit sad but here's to hoping the IPA iteration does the legacy proud. Good to hear, OP, that you say it's as good as Liberty Ale.

Anchor claims that Liberty Ale is an IPA, but "Liberty IPA" is a reimagining of "Liberty Ale".... riiiggghhht. Don't use logic when the marketing department struts their stuff.

We’re excited to announce the release of Liberty IPA, a bold and modern twist on an original craft classic, Liberty Ale. Like its predecessor, Liberty IPA (6.3% ABV) is made with two-row pale malt and Cascade hops. It is the combination of Cascade with new hop varieties—Nelson Sauvin and El Dorado—that creates the mouthwateringly complex and robust aromas of pine and citrus in this crisp, American-style IPA.

Liberty IPA is available starting January 2017 nationwide for a limited time in 6-pack bottles and on draught at select bars, restaurants, and stores as well as at the Anchor Brewing Taproom in San Francisco.

Hope it's better than Odeprot. I couldn't even finish drinking that beer.

Liberty IPA is a new seasonal beer (January-April), the original, all-Cascade Liberty Ale remains a year-round Anchor product.

    Sierra Nevada released one: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/253497/

I was originally going to say something about Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, as that's the beer I think of when I think Cascade hops. But they list Magnum and Perle as the bittering hops, so it's not "all Cascade".

I bought the seasonal release of dry hopped Anchor Steam a few months ago. I was not a fan of that beer.

I may try a 6-pack of Anchor IPA and cross my fingers that maybe this seasonal will 'work' for me?

    Cheers!

Alright good! I love Liberty Ale. It was my first "legal" beer and holds a spot in my heart.

I'm down for a 6 pack of the Liberty IPA. Now, if Anchor would only update their bottling dates so I knew if something was fresh on the fly without having to research it.

Yup, I have not purchased a year round Anchor beer in years since I refuse to bring a Little Orphan Annie Decoder with me when I shop for beer.

The 'good news' is that we know the Anchor Liberty IPA is fresh now since it is a seasonal release.

    Cheers!

I am a big fan of Anchor Brewing, and would love to try this new brew.....sadly though, our distributor in NE Ohio sucks ass and I can hardly ever find any of their beers around me; pretty pathetic that such a historic important brewery as Anchor gets little attention in these "look another new brewery" days we are in now.....ah well, perhaps I will see some on travels south to Columbus to see my daughter soon; they always seems to have fresh beer readily available down there, but not here in Akron....

I wonder if customers in your area got tired of their stupid cryptic dating system and decided to stop buying Anchor beers? I recognize that I am only one customer but that was a decision that I personally made with regard to year round Anchor beers.

    Cheers!

No, the reason is the distributor here sucks for Anchor....not the date code, that is not a major issue for most people

    A
Actually their cryptic dates are one of the easier to decode - year, month, day (least important)
Certainly better than Lagunitas or any of those best before / after examples, and almost always readable

No but with only three symbols they do indicate the date. Plus first letter of month unless already taken then next letter and so on. Sort of logical :astonished:

Nice try but far from logical......This system is not logical if you just grab a beer, I dont buy any beer from these guys because the beer is really not that good and I have no idea how old my Liberty ale is.

    Enjoy

@Giantspace beat me too it but not logical at all.

Permit me to tell you what is logical: "Bottled on January 11, 2017". If Anchor wants my business they could do something like this.

    Cheers!
