I love this style, I have many favorites that I rotate year round, but Java The Stout out of Ohio seems to be a big favorite. Any other lovers of this style with a lower ABV?

Bell's Kalamazoo Stout and Mother's Winter Grind. I'll also include Left Hand Milk Stout if you'd like to deviate a little from the "American Stout" category.

Straight up Stout would go to D's Obsidian... one of the few beers I actually like by them.
Alter: Milk Stout is solid, by Left Hand. Tough choices... also Great Lakes... damn. So many...

just over your cap at 7.6%, but Double Shot by Treehouse is by far my favorite non-imperial stout. Next closest are mean old tom and Highwater campfire stout

I don't really like anything classified as AS, under 7% at all. These are my favorite <7% dark beers though, and I really like all of these. Edmund Fitzgerald is shockingly good if you haven't had it for a while, it's equally as good as HF Everrett (which is also worth seeking out).

Hill Farmstead Everett is at 7.5% ABV so not exactly consistent with the OPs criteria but I agree that it is an excellent beer.

    Cheers!

I had no idea they made stouts less than 9.5%.
