[IMG] First off @Lingenbrau your wife looks amazing for just having a baby and she is cool to allow you to do that post, lucky man! So today I have something sent to me by @Rcruz9230 many many thanks brother! Pours a very murky orange with a solid two finger sticky white head that just covers the sides of the glass with thick layers of lace. 4.25[IMG] Smell guava, papaya, passion fruit, tangerine, and a little piney grapefruit rind. 5[IMG] Taste follows just so dang juicy guava, papaya, mango, passion fruit, tangerine and a subtle hit of grapefruit in finish. 5

Mouthfeel is a big medium, sticky from all the lush and fresh hops, mild carbonation, and not dry however it coats your entire mouth with fresh hop oils, and for 8% ABV goes down way to easy. 4.75

Overall this is one of the best DIPAS I have ever had and I have had many of the greats. North East DIPA all the way, dirty and juicy, plus it was canned on 2/7/17 so it is fresh. 4.75

Good Sunday to you all, Brewing Appreciators!

I won't be too long-winded today except to rant about how bizarre the weather has been. Last night was like a monsoon here but it was probably 34 degrees. I had to run an errand on foot and underestimated it. Fuck. I'm not exagerrating when I say it like to gave me hypothermia. :grimacing: Brutal. But now? Late fall-like cold and starting to snow a little. Anyway, I will take my cues from the calendar and not China's weather propaganda hoaxes :stuck_out_tongue: and crack a big, warm, hopefully delicious, dark beer.
I got this one from a buddy up here that braves the harsh wastelands of government stores in Ontario to help me try new non-Quebec beers. This is an imperial stout from Sawdust City Brewing Co. called Long, Dark Voyage to Uranus. Now, I'm a vulgar, dorky linguist so needless too day I am a big fan of crudeness and puns. Far from a prude. Butt I really am not a fan of toilet puns and the like in beers. You wouldn't do that with food or other alcohols. And it's one thing if it's just the name but these guys have gone all out. The description of the beer literally talks about bad smells and being taken 'from behind'... Anyway, suffice it to say, this better be good. /rant
    [IMG]
It looks like you'd expect. Dark with a ruddy-brown cap. It smells pretty berry-like and the flavor follows suit. There is some roastiness but it doesn't cross into harshness. The mouthfeel is too boozy and not rich enough for what I usually like in a big stout, but other than that this is an enjoyable beer.

Here is my review for the curious.

    1. Congrats to @Lingenbrau and family. I would not be brave enough to attempt a post!
    2. apologies for the image. I could not get a decent pic of that can.
    3. NBS ...Grimm Lumen, an IPA Hazy golden pour with a hoppy, lemon aroma. The flavor is light citrus, but there is some base bitterness too. At 55 degF (it was in the room I am lagering a Baltic porter so I know the temp) there are some fruity tropical notes too. I like this one. -the one can offerings at a ~local distributor are appreciated, but a tad too pricey for me perhaps, but I a pleased to be enjoying the one.

What date was the canning of that? When I had it fresh, it was insanely fruity-hop forward, but I don't get that impression from your notes.

I was curious too so I went to Saranac's site. I'm guessing it was the Irish Roots Pack w/ Irish Lager, Irish Red Ale, Pale Ale, and Irish Stout:
The descriptions say that the Irish Lager and Irish Stout are "perfect for blending" together. (Clearly going for the "half and half" - Guinness and Harp.)
    Look familiar @utopiajane ?

Next up are two from @Justdoit1234

First is this Golden IPA from Bent Paddle

Dark yellow and murky with a nice beige head to start that recedes to a thin layer.

Nose has a bit of earthy leaning at first, but it fades off to a slightly spicy, sweet citrus.
Up front, the taste gives up its entire story, and proves that it is a well balanced bitter and sweet grapefruit and caramel treat. Finish is slightly earthy and just barely chalky.

Body leans to the lighter side of medium bodied and is not terribly dry on its bitter finish.

Pretty good, and sets up as a convincing and refreshing daily drinker.

Next up is a touch meaner.

    Damian from Surly

Opaque blackness under a more fizzy than not beige head that leaves a curtainy lace.

Raisins, molasses and oak figure solid in the nose. Upon exit, something with noble hop quality and maybe a hint of vegetable.

First wave of taste is the oak. Not like whiskey barrel, straight up oak, like the virginal oak you find in a Chardonnay. Backing it up is that noble hop quality. Finally, we have only hints of molasses, but nothing nearly as sweet as what the nose suggested.

Body is not nearly as thick as I thought it would have been, as seriously, I could almost guzzle this. But I won't..... Finish is bitter, wet and finally a touch sweet, maybe.

I love Cascadians, and this one is a good representative of why. Bold, yet quenching.

Looks like @Lingenbrau is have a great Sunday, congratulations!!!!!! Hopefully everyone else is having a good Sunday. First up for me Tired Hands Albino Slug, really loving the apricots in this, adds a nice mild fruit tartness to the beer, thanks @CanConPhilly!

    Thank you CanConPhilly for this
16 oz can, dated 2/1/17, poured into a teku

A- A slightly hazy golden orange with a two finger white head. Second pour is crazy cloudy, assume from apricot purée

S- Tropical hops, some apricots slightly sweet, floral and piney hops.

T- Apricots, some tropical fruits, some citrus, piney/resin finish.

    S- Smooth, medium body.

O- A great fruit DIPA and actually fits the style of a DIPA unlike the Double Milkshakes. Super happy I was able to get a 4-pack, second pour was a little ugly but it tastes great!

Also if you are on the fence about joining the NBS BIF #5: We Gonna Need a Bigger Porch do it! I have to say the previous 4 rounds have been a blast, so many great new beers in a lot of different styles go out!

For some reason almost all 12oz bottles in Quebec are screw top. I suspect it is because Molson takes care of them separately from other bottle formats (we have a deposit) and it makes them all interchangeable. Its always fun when I get back to the US and tear my hand up the first few beers HAHA

    AWESOME PICTURES!!!

Damn international borders. One of these days I'll participate. For now I'll just watch jealously.

Congratulations! That's one famous baby. And pretty good looking by newborn standards as someone else pointed out.

    Beer first barrel second.

I believe it was 2-3-17 but I've tossed the cartons so can't be sure. I've had several and my impressions are the same, malt forward with floral, citrusy hops. For me the firm piney hit is in the aftertaste. Didn't really notice fruity hop touches but now that you mention it I might in the next round. Such is the power of suggestion.

I'm always careful when I pair a beer and a cigar, especially if I've never had the beer before. I'm also careful to get enough of the beer down to get a solid handle on its characteristics before even lighting up, so I don't taint the review.

With that out of the way, may I present: La Pinguina En Fuego, a Clown Shoes imperial stout aged in rum barrels with habaneros.

First off, let me say this: I'm not a rum aficionado. Then again, I'm not a huge bourbon fan, either, and I love BBA stouts.

Second off: holy crap, Clown Shoes has cracked the code with rum barrel aging. Their first attempt was OK, but not up to par with their BBA offerings. The last two I have had, though (Exorcism of Rachel Wall, and now, spoiler alert, this brew), have been absolutely fantastic.

Third off: this is what Luchador En Fuego should have been all along.

Huge, huge stout: massive chocolate and coffee tons, incredibly smooth; insigificant roast or char, if that's your bent. The rum is perfectly smoothly integrated, carrying smooth caramel, sugar, and oak tones.

The highlight, of course, are the habanero peppers. Spicy and vegetal, they add a noticeable heat without ever overpowering. This brew falls somewhere in between Prairie Bomb! and Habanero Sculpin: hot, but still drinkable.

The overall combination is a brew that is huge, thick, spicy, complex, decadent ... and somehow still incredibly drinkable. Exorcism of Rachel Wall blew me away; this beer is a step above that. One of CS' best offerings, period.
