Last January, a BA sent me a message stating his interest in trading after viewing my "wants." We arranged a trade using the BA system and all went well - positive feedback logged from both sides. He texted me several weeks later and we traded again, this time just via text messaging and not through BA. Again, everything went well. The third trade has not gone well. He contacted me via text wanting to do a similar trade. We agreed on June 9th to ship each other 8 cans and one large bottle, and we agreed on the specific beers. We also agreed to ship in the next week. I shipped on June 14. When I texted him the UPS#, he replied that he and his girlfriend had just broken up and that the beer "will definitely be sent out tomorrow." I told him to take time due to his personal situation, but reached out again on June 30 after hearing nothing. He replied, saying that he was going to send the package but got word of new beers, yada yada, and that he would text me the next week. 2 weeks later, nothing despite multiple texts on my end. TL;DR: the bad trade was not done formally through BA, but he is listed as a trader here and we did use the system for the first trade. Is this the right forum for this? It may not matter as he has not logged onto BA in 7 weeks. Thanks for listening.
Tough call, but given you both made trade through here and initially used system, I would say name the trader. End goal is to help get beer or warn other traders, I don't see anything wrong with you naming trader. And while it sucks he and his girlfriend broke up, in the grand scheme of life events that is pretty weak as an excuse.
Yeah, I've had 2 trades fall apart due to personal/medical reasons. Both were substantially more life altering than breaking up with your gf, but everyone responds differently to crisis in their life, and I'm not going to judge this BA without further info. So I say tag them in this thread and get it sorted out. Maybe it was way more than just a, "break up." I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially a BA who has had prior good trades with me. All that being said, I've also done the same where the initial trade is all through BM on here. Then subsequent trades are done mostly via text. I still open a formal trade request and send a BM with a finalized agreed upon trade to clarify , and then shipping info once I have it so there is base level documentation in case something like this ever happens. Looks like I'll keep that policy up.
Before tagging him in this post read through the How to start a bad trader post and make sure you have advised your trade partner you are going to name him in this post https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/how-to-create-a-bad-trader-thread.258091/
With the trader in question not logging on here in 7 weeks and 5 days I'm almost positive it won't make a difference. I'm not saying that OP shouldn't warn the guy via text but if he's gotten nothing but excuses and then silence, I'm sure silence will be the response.
No whalez. I sent him 4 Bearded Iris Homestyle, 3 new release Bearded Iris cans, one other local IPA, and a 750 Yazoo Tequila barrel sour. He was supposed to send a Bruery Confession and 8 cans of fresh Carton/Bolero Snort/Kane/Neshaminy Creek, etc. My motivation here is only to prevent other BAs from trading with this guy.
@Buck89 Good evening, Please name the trader for me and everyone else so I can proceed forward with some insight. Thanks, Dave
What was the mood of his responses after he said he broke up with his gf and said he would still ship? Any fatalities reported in his area since he responded? This is me not being sarcastic.
Nothing unusual in his texts. He seemed just fine in the brief messages. Also, I did do a google search of his name yesterday and there was nothing. Thought about that too
@Buck89 Thread has been moved to the Bad Trader forum. @Nicholasdoria has not been on BA in (2) months. Its a very good assumption that he's probably not going to follow through on his end, nor does he plan to use the site anytime in the near future. Hes been tagged as a Bad Trader, so if he does come back...its not without some punishment for his actions, as the tag doesnt go away, unless we remove it. The tag should *warn* other traders. In the future...please, at a bare minimum...use the feedback system and send a formal trade request. Looks like we are done here. If there is something that comes out of this situation, message a moderator so we can open up the thread for further updates/comments. Cheers! Dave
