It's tasty but maybe a bit over done on the can release hype. Well worth visiting but if they have a release that weekend come later after the crowds. If it's packed there's another spot next door.
Prepare for a cramped tasting room full of bros and hos. The beer is ok, but I still haven't found anything there that would make me really want to go back.
Pure is definitely worth checking out. Good beer, very small tasting room. The place is seriously comparable to a medium sized bedroom. It is very close to Mikkeller as well.
My thoughts on their beer seem to echo previous opinions. It's good. Not the best around, but far from the worst. I'm happy to drink it if cans fall in to my lap or are opened at a share, but I wouldn't wait in line for it. Something about the hype they've managed to create seems so artificial, but whatever. Never been to the actual location, is it really that small? The last place that surprised me regarding size was Fieldwork Sacramento. Super small. Monkish also really small if you don't count the tables in the back of the warehouse.
So you have been to Mikkeller. Imagine that area with the large table (that use to be Nick's office) and double it. Then put a bar in it and *poof* that's the size.
If there is one thing Miramar/Mira Mesa isn't lacking...it is breweries. I think the area is around 22 breweries if you count from I-15 into Sorrento Valley, which I do, so that I can include New English
I see they are doing an IPA can release on Saturday. I am going to be in the area, are these instant Monkish style can releases or if I roll up an hour or 2 after the release will I be good (i.e. Highland park)? Interested in getting some cans but I ain't getting there early and I got shit to do so I can't stay long.
I'd guess this will be less crazy than their latest ones. I used to always go an hour after they open and have zero wait and plenty of cans left, but lately I've stopped going because I realized I've never really loved any of their beers and people have started lining up more so sometimes it sells out before the line's gone. Like I said, this release doesn't seem to have as much haze/line bro appeal, so I'd say shoot to get there 30-60 minutes after they open and the people who spent hours waiting for them to open will have been served and you can walk right up and get what they got. You can monitor their instagram posts to get an idea how busy it is too.
