Hey all. I'm about 99% sure I'm going to be in that area (a little south of the artesia freeway) come Friday and I'm just looking to see if there is a decent enough shop in that area where I can find beer I'll like. It's not a pleasure trip, it's for a funeral, and I haven't been in the area in 25 years, so I'm just looking for something super-local and just for while I'm there (just a carry-on).

I noticed a place called Emilio's that looks like it's just over the border in Lakewood, was hoping to get feedback and that there's a Total Wine not far, although I'm not a huge fan of TW.

Last, was hoping for some local recommendations that I could find in a place like Emilio's. I'm mostly an IPA, pils, lager, stout guy. I know I have a lot of questions, haha, so thanks in advance.

Beachwood Long Beach is your answer, they'll have everything you'll want and bottles to go.

    Cheers,

I appreciate the input but that seems more like a restaurant and is pretty far away from where I'm staying. I'm looking more along the lines of 2 6-packs and maybe a bomber to throw in the fridge. I'd drink anything handed to me, but if I can get somewhere in 10 minutes and get something decent and no one cares, that would be immensely better

    Corked (used to be Stearn's).

Its their brewery and restaurant, well worth the extra 15 minutes for world class beer.

    Cheers,

Your not going to find anything worthwhile where your staying unless you venture out a bit.

    Cheers,

I know that neighborhood is kinda rough, I used to go there every summer back in the late 80s-early 90s, that Emilio's place is that bad? Like I said, this is for a funeral, not for fun. I would just like to find an alternative to the bmc shit and maybe, even, something local. I appreciate the input.

Beachwood has bottles (22oz and 6packs) to go. Long Beach Beer Lab and Ten Mile Brewing are both now open and are located on Willow. If you're heading towards Bixby, you can swing by Steelcraft and hit up Smog City (they'll have bottles to go as well)

Are you flying into Long Beach airport or LAX? If LAX hit yur (rental car?) and drive to Whole Foods El Segundo (2 miles). Otherwise go to Toral Wine in LB. if your against going to TW there is US_Liquor nearby that has a decent selection of cans/bottles. I prefer Stearns (Cork'd). But US is closer. You don't have time for a Beachwood LB or SB visit. But it is worth a stop, if you have the time.

There is a TW relatively nearby in Long Beach:

Corked: 4110 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807

California Heights Market: 3766 Orange Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807 (be careful of the pricing on the "rare" bottles)

Listed in order of my preference, although I am not sure how far each is from where you are anchored.

If it's anything like the one in Costa mesa, yes. Can typically find swamies or other port cans, most recent modern times release, lost Abbey or stone (if you are into that stuff). Plenty to get through a rough weekend

Thanks for all the information everyone. My somewhat exact location (I'm fairly sure, I'm staying with family) is east of LB Blvd. off South St. just south of 91.

I really appreciate the help. I would love to just go around and try a lot of the places mentioned but I'm really just rolling with the punches while I'm there. Plus, I don't really have a car. I'll throw my .02 in if I can with the Beechwood recommendation but I'll definitely be stopping at one of the shops mentioned when I first get there tomorrow. Cheers.

Did you even read what the OP was looking for? TJ's fits the bill, perfectly.

I did read. I'm aware Trader Joe's sells things --- that they even sell beer. However, it wouldn't necessarily have been in my list of top bottleshops. I've always found their selection to be decently priced but limited and unrefrigerated. I'd personally go with the other mentions in your list

Unrefrigerated....yes. Price is a bit lower than other places. But the IPA's sitting out on the shelves? Not cool.
