Got up early for the 6 Central kickoff of the online Oktoberfest tasting, but the other slackers are still sleeping! First shower beer too, while I'm at it.

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, 5.8% ABV. Pours medium brown and thin, with a middle finger of off-white head. Nose is yeast, taste follows, plus nuts and caramel, very little bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

    Melvin - Heyzeus

Starting with something relatively light. My second Melvin beer (after 2x4 the other day) courtesy of @crobinso . Really nice, even though I'm no expert on lagers. Obviously, this being an all-malt beer, it lacks the adjunct twang that most take for granted. Very refreshing.

Not sure what the symbolism of the label is (the text at the back makes some weird association between Mexican and (ancient) Greek references) but one thing for sure is that it's one of the ugliest labels I have ever set eyes upon! And given that I have a weird fetish for ugly labels, I'm absolutely loving it!

    Cheers!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Not much going on here today. Going to have hot weather all weekend for the start of fall. Will be visiting a store or two later on. One of my favorite shops has a lot of new stuff from this week, and I get to trade for some other stuff with the owner too.

Haven't had this is a couple years. Just as amazing as I remember! Awesome head retention and lacing on the glass. Big flavors of cracker, bread dough, toasted biscuit, and nutty malts; with light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery noble hops. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied bready/grainy creaminess and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter dryness. Fairly crisp and very refreshing. Perfectly clean lagering, never yeasty. Still one of the best in the style as I remember. I don't think I had it fresh when I first reviewed it. No caramel or darker malt sweetness here. Amazingly rich Munich malt flavors with balancing hops. Perfect style example. Glad to see the 4 packs this year. May have to rewrite the review. Definitely super fresh.

Another revisit. Delicious Belgian dark ale. Flavors of raisin, plum, prune, fig, pear, apple, peppercorn, and clove yeast; with balanced chocolate, cocoa, toasted dark bread, and nutty malts; with light notes of banana, bubblegum, coffee, and smoke. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, and light herbal hop/roasted bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied. Nice bready/grainy creaminess in the mouthfeel. Light chalky roast and hop stickiness. Lightly increasing bitter/spicy dryness. Really great complexity of balanced yeast character and roast/bready malts. I have always been a fan of almost all of Vivant's beers, but the new 500 ml sour series and barrel aging program has been amazing in the last year. Some of the best sours I've ever had.

Revisit yet again. Great DIPA! Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops/fruit; with moderate white bread, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium body/carbonation. Balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops/fruit in the mouthfeel. Increasing resin/rind dryness, touch of astringency. Dangerously easy drinker. Still doesn't come close to Molotov; but it's quite impressive how light this actually feels, for being 8.5%. Pretty aggressive, minimal warming alcohol.

Revisiting again. Did not see this last year, but reviewed in Jan 2015. This is awesome! Flavors of big pumpkin, cinnamon, gingerbread, nutmeg, brown sugar, pie crust, spiced rum, vanilla, toasted oak, and light clove. Light herbal/spice bitterness and rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body. Nice bready/grainy creaminess; light spice stickiness and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Touch of spice/tannin dryness. Overall, still just as delicious as I remember; but the Rum barrel seems to have more presence this time around. No barrel booze at all. Insanely smooth sipper. Still don't love it anywhere near as much as the base beer; as the barrel mellows out a lot of the huge spice intensity, but I can't really complain otherwise. Worth grabbing another for sure.

Well, Zeus is the Greek reference. And Heyzeus is the Mexican/Spanish pronunciation of Jesus, or close to it.

Good morning BAs! Absolutely LOVING this weather - getting all those summer projects finished before the winter monsoon blows in and turns everything to mud followed by frozen mud. Today's New Breakfast Beer is courtesy of a ninja box from @2beerdogs - this guy is fortunate to live somewhere that The Bruery/Bruery Terreux is readily available. I'm only able to find them in MI or Buffalo, NY. Anyway, many thanks!

After the first glass is poured, the bottle still is pushing foam:

    An excellent brew!

Glad you liked it. I was hoping their spotlighting of a different yeast would be right up your alley.

Mornin' all... a little slow this a.m. with my usual choice at this hour, after a visit to the new Half Acre taproom last night. Great food, great space, too many beers maybe. Nah. Who am I kidding? Just right. Cheers!
