I think at this point your best bet would be a used car, MacBook, or night vision goggles.

This exactly what I was thinking. Is this how beer trading works? Seems like a big waste of time but then again I'm not as crazy as most about chasing beer. I've never been to ww but drink their beer anytime I see it. This whole thread seems to be shedding light on a less desirable part of the craft beer scene...

Pretend you never heard of. I'm purposely not verified to stay away from trade boards. It really is the worst part of all of it.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I don't see what's so bad about beer trading? I love it. Allows me to trade some excellent stuff I've had many times locally for something new/fun/exciting from a different locale. And no one is forcing anyone to make a trade either...if someone is asking too much, you simply just don't respond to their ISO.

Only down side is the shipping costs/hassle IMO.

I guess from my standpoint I'm awash with good beer options so I don't feel like I'm missing out too much on offerings from other parts of the country. How much is shipping on a box of beer anyway? I've been known to spend a few bucks on beer but I can't get over shipping beer across the country...

I'm pretty much over beer trading, but I don't have any issues with it. Back when I was more involved, it gave me a way to try beers from all over the place with no local equivalents. At the very least none that were as good.
    These days, I don't really think that's necessary...hence why I stopped bothering.
I can get a borderline world class example of 95% of beer styles and variations brewed within the Mountain region. Plus, trading doesn't really deliver the "experience" that drinking at a lot of "from the source" places offer.
Still, if that's your jam - rock on. Just don't ruin beer for the rest of us in the process. If I ever see people fighting over Franconian Landbiers I'll know it's time for me to just go back to Miller High Life. Either that or I'll have to toss up some more offers for Charizard or a used Buick.

Not sure if the Medianoche Reserve will still be around for on-site consumption, but I'd be down for a share for those spending time in Greeley next Thursday eve. I suppose I'll check in later next week and recycle this post, but start thinkin' on it BA friends...

So it sound like they'll have onsite bottles of Vanilla Noche for the weekend of the release, but any idea if they'll last til Sunday? Had a last minute work trip to Loveland pop up and fly in Sunday morning and would love to try it since I don't want to have to give up my only child to trade for a bottle.

For some reason I can't edit my post, but just realized I misread the WW post, no Vanilla Noche bottles.

Second chance emails went out today after the people who won yesterday decided not to buy their bottle. Well, I finally won something. Pretty stoked for this. Now I just need to see how much I can sell my bottle for...

@Tarheel4985 I have a question for you. On reddit some anonymous "hater" said the following:

First of all, I'm 99% sure this is complete and total BS. "Can smell the extract in Juicy Bits" no juicy bits is all hops and malt flavors! But anyway, I've seen pictures of all the fruit and spices and coconut and everything you guys use. It sounds like this person is just someone who is looking for excuses to trash you. Either they fabricated the taproom manager's quote or he needs to be re-educated. :/

I should say this. I enjoy swapping beers with friends for fun and to try different stuff. But the hype whale chase game is the part that makes me shake my head.

No, beer trading is fine. They are referencing the weirdly wonderful and kooky "Denver Beer Traders" atmosphere of IP trades. Things like trading Casey (or other) beers for (legal) Marijuana, cars, laptops, or just about anything else you can imagine. There is also the subsection of beer traders who religiously check the "beer black book" to determine inflated $ values for rare beers. For example, a Vanilla Rye probably sells for $300. This is one of the reasons why I've never really pursued "whales" in beer trading.

Having once been a whale hunter (like 12 years ago), whatever is a whale now won't be for long. Either production will increase, tastes will change, or existing bottles will become undrinkable. Sometimes all 3. Unusual lambics and historical beers would be the only real exceptions.

How long do you guys think they will have bottles of Noche Reserve at the brewery for on-site? And how would you compare the regular version to the regular? is the only difference 7 months in barrels?

Must have been a Monkish trader, those guys are always hating on anything that isn't Trillium or Tree House, I swear Monkish <-> Trillium/TreeHouse traders are the biggest in-breeders. Heaven forbid Colorado makes awesome NE IPAs.

There's no significant difference in amount of time spent in the barrel between the different Medianoche bottles. Both the reserve and regular have components from bourbon barrels aged 17 months. The main difference in the base beer for the reserve is the 14 month rye barrel component that was blended in before adjuncts were added.
