Bell's Hell Hath No Fury Ale, 7.5% ABV, 8 IBU. Pours dark brown to black, with a half finger tan head that left decent lacing. Nose is sweet raisins and malt. Taste follows with moderate sweetness, no bitterness, and besides raisins I'm picking up prunes. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

last beer of the day for me. Figured New Hampshire glassware for a New Hampshire beer...

and possibly best one of Henniker to date for me.

quick summary - aromas of maple syrup, roasted coffee beans, cocoa powder, earthy notes and sweet grains ; flavor leaned towards the roastiness initially and seemed to develop some maple sweetness as it warmed, aftertaste of a light sweet maple syrup and milk chocolate.
mouthfeel was mostly smooth with some graininess halting any possibly cloying qualities that could have occurred due to the use of maple syrup, nice finish of maple, earthiness, and coffee; overall - would definitely have again!

also, my thoughts go out to that small Texas town that had the shooting today in their church.

    NEIPA?

    thttps://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/33136/262717/

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a murky swampy yellow body with some sticky lacing. Nose of tropical fruit and citrus, mostly orange. Taste of orange pith, honey, slight lemon, and birch characteristics as well. NEIPA feel of particulate and lacking in the carbonation department. Overall, a juice head's dream? This, IMO, is not a DIPA, and needs to be put into the "NEIPA style" category. One can only hope. Cheers!

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Another long work day in the books. Looking forward to NBS all day, and here it is. I decided to go lighter tonight (ABV), so there's likely going o be more than one new beer. Here is #1
    [IMG]
Waconia Brewing Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.

I do like chocolate, all be it unsweetened baking chocolate. I do like peanut butter. This is a good beer for my taste, and am happy with it.

    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

Pours a very dark brown color. Head was a tan color. Less than a finger. Minimal lacing on the glass.
The nose is really rich with peanut butter notes, and is backed up with some chocolate.
Taste is like the nose - peanut butter up front, chocolate on the backside.
Maybe a bit on the thin side, but not too bad mouth feel.
Overall this is a delicious porter.

I think the rye/spice you are picking up is the hops used in their Matriarch Imperial IPA, which is the “Patriarch” that is used (bourbon barrel treating of it). It is a very English style forward, but it has just the slightest bite to it. Brad discusses blending and Barleywines (which seems to b his favorite style) among many other things (including his take on the current state of IPAs) in this interesting interview

So November's finally here, and it's starting to feel truly autumnal- my favorite time of year! And here's a beer that's really hitting the spot-
    [IMG]
Yellowhammer's Frankenhammer- a Belgian dark ale aged on toasted cherry wood.

The cherry wood is definitely there, but it's only a gentle accent, and really only shows itself on the long toasty finish. But the heart of this beer is a fine BSDA, and it's fortunate that they didn't mess with it too much.

I'm getting dark sugar, amber rum, white raisins, cherry gummies, peppery spice and some very slight medicinal phenols a la Affligem (only more subtle). Overall it's sweet with some warming alcohol, but that's all held at bay by the wood and phenolic accents. Mouthfeel is moderately full, like whole milk, and bitterness is high enough to be noticeable and keep the beer firmly grounded.

The more I have of this the more I enjoy it- each of its facets take turns coming to the fore, and the sweetness never threatens to take control. I appreciate what the subtle woodiness brings to the table, and how they don't hit you over the head with it. A very enjoyable A- (4.2).

Thanks to @richj1970 for sending this to me. Cheers!

They call this a "blonde barley wine." It's perfectly fine to have a pale barley wine, but I understand why many could be surprised by the color... so I get the need for the name. I wouldn't call this "blonde" though. Looks like a light amber with hints of a rosé wine glow.

This is a brew for lovers of barrel aging since this aspect takes over the beer. This isn't my kind of beer, but it's well done for what it is. Wood and vanilla are heavy. Alcohol is present. This isn't harsh in any way but the barrel presence gives this a brittle feel. This isn't a beer that envelopes or smothers you. The thing that I find most admirable about the beer is that it is perhaps closer to an amaretto than any other beer I've had.

Happy new beer Sunday! Finally getting to sit down and have a beer. Jibe IPA from Green Flash Brewing. Just ok. Wouldn't not drink it again, not sure if I'll seek it out either. Just not quite there in all categories. So I'll pound this one and grab a different one from the beer fridge.[IMG] [IMG]

Good evenng, NBS. A thought-provoking question from our fearless leader @cjgiant to kick us off early this morning.

Now I have not been sitting around pondering this all day, but after shopping for the food for a church function next weekend, I will admit to a fair amount of sitting around and a nap or two. Kind of a mixed bag for me. Once I took the plunge into NBS, it has become at least a mild addiction. I have absolutely held on to a beer to wait for this thread. With my low rate of consumptin, it s relatively easy for me to have new beers on hand. I tend to favor new brews from brewers I have some pleasant history with, but will give a new brewer a try as well. I certainly could not do a new heer a day. The only time I do is when I travel. To me, having this thread as a weekly happening makes it an event to look forward to, and I get bummed when I miss participating.

Supper was our first attempt at home made Pho...it actually came out pretty good, we need to amp up the spices a bit or decrease the beef intensity of the broth. Pressure cooker recipe done in an InstantPot...45 minute cook time We had the grandson all weekend in addition to the extra chores, so just opening a new brew...

Federal Hill Pale Ale from a brewery I run lukewarm on, Foolproof Brewing. Ths is a pale ale brewed with blood orange and safron. Fedeal Hill is essentially an Italian neighborhood in Providence. Think a mini version of Boston's North End. Signified by the arch with the pineapple. It was supposedly named because of an incident in 1788. Rhode Island and North Caroline were two states that did not immediately ratify the newly written Constitution. Anti-federalists opposed to the Constitution held sway, but there were Federalists who were supposed to be plannng I guess what you would call a Constitution party on July 4, 1788. A RI revolutionary war general West, who was a wealthy Scituate farmer and businessman, basically stormed Providnce with 1000 troops bent on reventing the event. Cooler heads prevailed, the Fedralists agreed to a 4th of July with no reading of the Constitution, but the hill got stuck with the Federal Hill name. Some or all of this might be true, but the source is the New England Historical Society...

OK...the beer. I have no idea what blood oranges and safron have to do with Federal Hill. The beer is straightforward blood orange on the nose and the taste. There is a mild, subdued (beaten into submission by bloody oranges?) malt flavor that is pretty clean, fairly crisp. I am not sure I am smelling or tasting saffron very much, and that might be a good thing. I think it could clash if it were very strong. There really s not much depth to this beer, and I am finding it just a blood orange fruit bomb. Drinkable, but ultimately not something I need to have. Can pretty much eat a blood orange and get the same taste. If that was the goal, they slam-dunked it. Feeling this will be landing around a 3.5 for me. I continue to be ambivalent about this quite local brewery.

A lot like the Octoberfest really.

Extended forecast is for better weather this week. So if we have to have snow it might as well be Sunday. And we can hope for better Seahawk play on Thursday night.

    Until next time.

    Happy Trails!

Hullo there, NBS. Most new beers I drink are in styles that go down rapidly without contemplation. I enjoy using this opportunity to drink something less typical for me. Something to sip and reflect on. On that note, tonight I'm having Avery's BBA coconut porter.

Pours a bit darker than cola, with a thin head which lasts as a cap. Spotty lacing on the way down.

Smells of bourbon, caramel, light coconut.

Tastes of caramel malts, bourbon sweetness. Mild coconut melds with the whole. Not very roasty or bitter. A touch sweet from the alcohol. Smooth and easy to sip.

Overall, a nice change of pace from the typical BA stout.

Didja think I was done with new beers for the day?

Up late on a Sunday checking out an awesome rye barleywine from Pipeworks...
    Reaper vs. Unicorn...
Super fruity and citrusy - not at all what I expected - reminds of Firestone Walker's Helldorado with its coloration - also not what I expect in a barleywine - Kind of an amber-orange colored ale, opaque, with just a quick finger of head on top... Lots of lace motes trailed behind on the glass... Aromas had a lot of candied citrus peel, herbal and floral - almost like that holiday fruit cake that shows up around Christmas-time... On the sip, a delicious and fruity splash of tropical and citrus fruit flavors - the rye and the body separates it from what I would otherwise liken to orange-forward NEIPAs... I'm getting orange and mango and rye spice and juicy sugars... Full-bodied and smooth, with a modest carbonation and a nice fizz on the tongue... Really enjoying this brew...

Here's to good new beers, cheers...
