As someone who just moved from Iowa to Oregon, this is amazing. Everything TG puts out is good, and they make some amazing beers. Even if we just get psuedosue and golden nugget cans, I will be pumped.

It's huge, I've been by it multiple times. West of Orlando, it's very clearly visible from the freeway. You can stop in and try a bunch of stuff from a bunch of different breweries they brew for.

Yeah I'd love to see TG in the Pacific NW. They really do a hell of a job on their IPAs.

My biggest concern is TG introduced market based on-site pricing. I'd hate to see that spread elsewhere.

I'd like to hope that local breweries won't follow suit on $100+ bottles for on-site consumption.

I'd also like to believe that our community wouldn't support bullshit behavior like that.

Sweet Christmas, that's a lotta currency for a beer. I don't know this story but it sounds horrible. I'd like to believe Seattle is better than that but there're a lot of people with too much money for their own good around here, so who knows.

A: Yes, I also would like to hear some of the background on this.

B: Yes, there are too damn many people with more bucks than brains these days.

I probably would as well, but you got to admit, the "Support your local brewery" sign under the bottle sale sign is a really nice touch.

But Fat Head's is closing in the Portland, OR area. I'm trying to figure out why one Midwest brewery couldn't hang with the PNW crowd, what makes this Midwest brewery (Toppling Goliath) able to hang with the PNW crowd? And even after people have said that the beers brewed in Florida were not as good as the ones in Iowa.

Hype train is a funny thing and greed is another, I'm left scratching my beard. History repeats itself, doesn't it?

Seems to me just a sign of the times of whatever fancies your palate these days.

From all accounts, Fat Heads was doing great in PDX, they didn't own the location though, it was a franchise, and the franchisee decided to ditch the branding. There was no indication that it was doing poorly.

Agreed, and I think many of their beers held their own out West (at least their hoppy stuff anyway). I know that I loved getting IBUsive with moderate regularity on my PDX visits.

Never been to Decorah, but that's damn near a deterrent. And that's from someone that loves PS and fresh Xhops.

un-related business decision or not, they're closing and a new brewery that isn't related to Fat Head's is moving in.

Isn't the PNW mostly a "fiercely loyal" craft beer enthusiast region? You guys gave Fat Head's a chance, and it didn't work out. And now no one in the PNW is going to see Head Hunter.

My point is if Head Hunter can't hang out there, how can Pseudo Sue? Or anything else from TG in that matter.

You are missing the point (or avoiding it, really.) Fat Heads was popular in PDX, it's closing is not evidence of some idea that Portland or the PNW is so fiercely loyal that outside breweries can't be successful. It appears to have been a success; Fat Heads just didn't stake their claim there well enough and had no control over staying or not.

The Fat Heads thread only really proved one thing: people really like that narrative, but it sort of ignores that "beer snobs" are not representative of the general public even in places like Portland.

Is it possible that Seattle will reject Toppling Goliath? Who knows? I personally doubt it.
