New Wild Ale Sunday (Week 668)
There are days I regret not taking down the trees that cover most of my property Today isn't one of those days. This is view out my front door. We had a bottle share yday at EQ brewery outside in the storm and it was great. Drive home not so much. Today the world is painted white with fancifully drawn, wonderfully balanced dark contours. Perhaps this beer will be as artistically created as woods the day after a snow.

Sorry for the crappy pics. Finally getting a chance to try this wild ale by Equilibrium Brewery, There and Back Again. Have had and enjoyed all the fruit variants, especially plum. Finally getting a chance at the base beer, re-done with tweaks, and according to a friend who works at Equilibrium it now is "killer", and he is a harsh rater not prone to hyperbole, so very excited!

Full aroma that is strongly acetic at first sniff, but carries plenty of rounded tart notes, overripe fruit, a honey/floral sweet lightly beneath it all, and sweet and also bitter citrus wrapping it into a wonderful bouquet.

A strong earthy character joins the flavors from the aroma to make a very full flavored bomb of goodness in the mouth. Not as tart as expected, but plenty of the sharper notes accompany the general yeasty tart it has a'plenty. The overripe fruit flavors pop on the palate. Sip ends with citrus pith, fruity funk, and earthy funk giving a clean drying to it.

Soft on palate, full side of med. body and viscosity, nice low/med. carb., and a finish that is an amazingly clean and delicious linger that begs for next sip.

Extremely refreshing, easy drinking, full flavored, and exceptional. Highest recommendation

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Enjoy By Christmas, unfiltered DIPA from Stone. -a decent morning juice to accompany the Everton match, but I didn't know it was a double until after I opened it.

-amber-orange can pour with a 1cm foam cap. The foam laces the glass upon draughts. The aroma is sweet tangerine. The hop flavors dominate: orange, grapefruit and mango. The bitterness is considerable. The alcohol is noticeable by the sweetness, but not by heat. This is a bright, tasty double IPA.

Good morning and cheers Doc and NBS’ers
A bit of snow around here yesterday and my son came by to clean it up for me and my gimpy knee. Cheers to him

It’s the first time for this stout for me and not the last for sure.
Pours jet black with a foamy beige head.
Aroma is a coffee/ toasted malt type of smell. Neither overwhelmed the other
The mouth feel was slightly thin for a stout to me. Low carbonation and slightly creamy to a light prickly finish
Taste was mostly roasted malt up front with hints of coffee and a bit of a chocolate finish
Overall it’s a very tasty stout, semi light and easy drinking. You could easily drink more than one. Looking forward to having more

Hahahaha ... I was just thinking about you New York boys and girls (and East Coasters) and here come two snow pics that look so peaceful, so innocent, yet hint at the formidability of what may come. Brrrrrrrrrrrr ...

@CanConPhilly — where in SEPA? In relation to Pittsburgh? (I'm just curious because I've got family from rural PA east of Pittsburgh.)

    New beer #2.

    Rollingstoner - Olvade Brewing Co
    Sour Ale with Elderflowers
    No discernable bottling date
    Score: 3.96 (+4.2% rDev)

L - 1/2 finger head atop a bright yellow body.

S - citrus and floral. A bit of vinegar in the nose as well.

T - red wine vinegar at first. Floral middle. Low sweetness. Some funk. Moderately tart.

F - light body with medium carb.

O - It says on the bottle that this is a summer beer, so I'm guessing this has some age on it. I got it from a friend of a friend so no idea on its age or handling. I don't taste anything I would call Elderflower, but it's nicely tart and well made. I would buy this if it had distro here.

T-Very nice tropical flavors accentuated by the simcoe hops.
M- Light bodied well carbonated with a very good balance and a delicate amount of bitterness.
O- Very well balanced beer with a nice hint of bitterness to hit the spot.

I stumbled on this movie when I was a kid and it completely freaked me out. I then later saw it as an adult and was somehow even more confused as to what the hell was going on

That movie poster is indeed great though.

L-The beer pours a cloudy orange with a towering off white head. Lacing is copious and lasting.
S- Grapefruit up front with some lingering piney undertones.
T- The nose translates directly to the palate. Slightly sweet grapefruit up front. Lingering piney/pithy bitterness is balancing, but not overwhelming.
F- Mouthfeel is on the higher side of medium and despite the towering head formation the carbonation is on the lighter side. Not really a beer your gonna want to drink the whole four pack of, but at 8.2% that's probably a good thing.
O- A really good Imperial/DIPA from Kane. One I would drink regularly if I had access.

Double Dry Hopped I Always Felt Closer To IPAs Than I Did To People...
Another example of Evil Twin creating names with sentences...

Double dry hopped IPA, 7.5%, featuring Galaxy, Citra, Simcoe, and Falconer's Flight hops... Medium-pale gold, opaque body; tall head of foam left a lot of lace behind and had a foamy cap all the way down... Presented an expectedly citrusy and fruity character, but appropriately reigned in with some green vinous elements and a danker edge of pine... Tangy highpoints and a pithy bottom were immersed in a soft but tingly body, medium-weight feel, amply carbonated, and moderately bitter; mildly sweet... Based on their Instagram page, it looks like this was a 12/1/17 release...

Really enjoying it - far more to my liking than Lost in the Static...

    Cheers...

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone! We also had our first real snow fall of the winter season here. I am a big fan of snow and therefore in an extra good mood today. I'm excited to drink my new beer this week and it is an unfiltered Pilsner from Omnipollo called "Perikles":

The appearance is a hazy, golden orange color with a foamy, white head.

The aroma is malt, yeast, citrus and a bit of hops.

The taste is quite light, slightly creamy, malty, citrus-y and a bit bitter/hoppy at the finish. It's a well balanced flavor with a dry finish.

The mouth feel is quite thick for how light the beer tastes.

Overall it's an interesting beer. Perhaps the most drinkable Pilsner I have ever had. The yeast makes it much smoother/creamier in comparison to filtered pilsners and although the mouthfeel is quite thick for a pilsner, it is extremely refershing and easy to drink. The basic flavors of a normal pilsner are there and it's quite enjoyable. Hopefully everyone else is enjoying some snow and a new beer on this fine Sunday!

Good morning NBS and thanks @lordofthewiens for the excellent start, as a native of WMass I also enjoy this season, we received not as much as the coast, a "pretty snow" my sister in law would say. She saw enough over the years to move to Florida! Todays offering is from Great Lakes Brewing. A pub release of Barrel Aged Smoked Imperial Porter. The parts of that title all do add up to a really good experience, the smoked element is bold and not overpowering, think Schlenkerla lager but not Urbock, the bourbon barrel adds a nice sweetness, and to their credit a nice hop bitterness adds to the whole thing. Sadly only one bottle here I sure hope my wife will be sent to Cleveland for her work again to get more!! But I have no input on that.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 2017 bottle #0019 into the test glass.
A - Translucent deep dark mahogany color. Meandering carbonation feeds a quick to exit off white froth. Patches of lacing cling to the glasses interior.
S - Smoked malts begin things, they dominate the profile without offense, sneaking in next are Black cherry sauce, some cigar wrap tobacco, bakers chocolate.
T - What a blend of flavors, Smoked malts start but quickly the bourbon barrels sweets roll in. Toffee and vanilla ride the wave next medium charred barrel, cocoa, some fig and pumpernickel are also in the wonderful interplay in this offering.
M - Medium in body, the palate response is to the sweet side, and the shift is on, a delightful bitter sweep happens at the mid point, concluding with a semi dry finish, and slight alcohol presence in the linger.
O - A most excellent offering with all the elements, smoked malts, dark malts, enough hop bitterness, the bourbon barrel delicate touch adding up to fantastic beer by Great Lakes, well done.

Even since I got computing power back together, I have not managed to come join in this favourite group of festives nearly as often as I would like. But the lurking. Ohhh... the lurking. I've missed y'all
Last weekend I was in Boulder visiting my sister and keeping her relatively sane during the second set of wedding celebrations (the groom's family is from Colorado and was upset that the main event this summer was not larger, and so had to have a CO version as well. Way too much social one upsmanship though for my palate). The good news though is that I now have an excuse to be in Colorado with frequency! This coming weekend will see the trip veer decidedly south as the actual family gets together down in Austin. I hope to carve out a moment to come join y'all as well, but we'll see.

I cannot decide this morning whether to commit to the Kelp Stout my roommate brought me back from Canada or the local Farmhouse ale that I picked up for just such an occasion. Hard knock life.

OK, I've made a decision, and I'm sticking with it.

I had really high hopes for this one as I poured it and it was golden beautiful. Then I stuck my sniffer in there and the excitement built. Then I took a sip and... it wasn't what I was hoping for. That's the nickle preview.
Farmhouse 1000 from Engine House No. 9 pours a fantastically beautiful opaque orb of molten gold with a massive and unrelenting head of white foam that refuses to settle or relent. -Beautiful sticky edges keep a ledger along the glass of my sips and incursions.
-Nose helps to build that excitement with a soft lemon-tart prick covering a subtle earthy funk underneath that has me grinning at the wisdom of my selection.
-Then it starts to unravel a bit. Instead of tart lemon and pillowy platitudes I encounter a harsh oily lime upon first sip (which I should be totally into! I have limeaid in my fridge as my beverage of choice when not drinking beer, and lime in general is a favourite flavour profile! Now I want a gimlet.). Here, however, it just... it feels harsh and kind of like it's stabbing me in the back. Part of the problem is that layered with this lime surprise is a sweet tropical fruit hop profile that sounds great by that description, but is not my cup of tea in a beer. Whatever, metaphors are meant to be mangled. hmm. Sweet yeasts and whatnot later and my excitement from above has tempered to an extent that I still enjoy it, but I feel kind of deflated.
-Finish is dedicated primarily to that lime bitter character and does nothing to encourage a reappraisal. Such hope. Such promise. And ultimately just not what I was looking for.

Happy NBS! A relaxing Sunday while the wife and I do a bit of online shopping for our children.

Today is an exemplary day for Lakefront Spiced Winter Lager. A light snow covered ground with temps in low 20's.

This beer pours a mahogany brown with a thin light tan head. Thin ring, minimal lacing, on the glass. Wonderful aroma of brandy, caramel, honey and spice. Flavor is rich and decadent with a wide range of flavors that include: caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, orange rind along with a candied brandy finish. I did not find this to be too hot even though it was bottled a little over a moth ago. Feel is medium to thin but it has a creaminess to it. A truly warming beer to enjoy on the coldest of winter days.

Stopped into Trillium Canton this week for some fresh new beers. Here is Pittsburgh Street
    4.52/5
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured into newly purchased Trillium Lineage tasting glass. A hazy orange amber, two finger sticky off white , rich dense, creamy foam cap, very good lacings.

Fragrant on the pour with papaya and cantaloupe

Taste has the zesty citrus as promised ,a bit of pineapple

Light to medium mouthfeel, effervescent spiciness lingers but doesn't bite

Another fine introduction from Trillium. Cant wait to see what they will do when the dry hop this delicious beer
