really want to try some other stouts besides guinness draught which ive only had 2 4 packs of before a few motnhs back but was wondering when sierra nevada will release there stout again the winter time seems like s good time but in there snowpack they have the coffee stout it sounds good but i dont want actual coffee in my beer a local brewery near me has peanut butter milk stout in cans at some gas stations but i just want a normal stout and from a bigger more repeatable brewery is guinness extra stout worth the try compared to the druaght or is the druaght better just because of the nitro

currently i have been drinking sierra nevada pale ale and double ipa torpedo really have grown to the taste of them both along with boston lager but i like sierra nevada more

reg macro beer like miller which is the first beer ive ever had which is good but the mouth feel is just so watery doesnt appeal to me anymore asm uch as it used to after getting used to better beers miller lite still has more flavor than coors or budlight imo and i dont care for the champagne style carbination on miller high life or bud weiser natrual carbination

sorry for the long story/rant just looking for some advice

The stout is year round but in some areas it does not show up . It's really good though.

    Enjoy

It might be helpful to suggest some stouts that are similar in taste and ABV to Sierra Nevada's stout that has a wide distribution. I am sorry to say I haven't had Sierra Nevada's stout, but can happily recommend Obsidian by Deschutes.

My local Bevmo has six packs of the Porter gathering dust. Last time I was in I saw a bunch.

Great rec, it is indeed similar to SN.

Your odds of finding the Sierra Nevada fresh are probably not very good.

Always pay attention to the bottled on dates even though some will tell you it doesn’t matter for stouts (it certainly does).

Barring oats or lactose, I think you are wise to avoid stouts with added ingredients.

Any of the Guinness stouts are worth a purchase. The “draught” will probably be the lowest in ABV of any others you can get - so it’s considerably different than “extra” etc. Their Antwerpen is particularly good but more intense. Their 200th anniversary stout is relatively new and worth a try.

Also look for anything by Bell’s, Duck-Rabbit, and Deschutes... and definitely anything labeled “porter” too.

Sadly, he's no longer with the company.

    Try @SierraTerence instead.

Some great recommendations already. To those, I would Founders Porter and Anchor Porter, which are classics of the style. We don't get Great Lakes beers where I live, but their Edmund Fitzgerald is highly regarded.

As far as stouts go, give Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. It feels heavier than it actually is, but it's a textbook example of the style. Ditto for Wells & Young Double Chocolate Stout (in the nitro cans if you like Guinness Draught--it has no chocolate that I'm aware of.) And if you do like Guinness, there's always Murphy's and O'Hara's.

@reowin as you will read in the other thread @ecpho "ordered a case of Stout from my local beer distributor." Are you willing to order a case of Sierra Nevada Stout?

    Cheers!

Props to you for exploring craft beer options! Do you have a local beer store where you do your shopping? If so, I'd recommend talking to the beer buy at that store and asking if they carry SN stout and if they don't if they can order some. You may need to commit to buying more than you otherwise would, but they might be willing to order some for you.

If you can't get SN stout you can always explore some other options ...
As others have suggested Deschutes Obsidian is an excellent stout (looks like they do distribute to TN). I'd also suggest trying something like Old Rasputin from North Coast (they definitely distribute to TN). Old No. 38 is an Irish stout from North Coast that is also similar to Guinness. Locally, Against the Grain's 35K is a well regarded stout that you should be able to find.

That North Coast Old No 38 is a great suggestion!

    A few others -
    Rogue Shakespeare Stout and
    Founders Porter

Been keeping an eye out for it for years now. Can always find Porter, Keller, everything else. Finder says not available within 10 miles of my home or work, and that's in Los Angeles of all places. Guess I need to remember to stop by BevMo if I ever find myself in Pasadena.

I wanted to update my post but the thread was closed. I guess we weren't talking about NEIPAs .

So I went to pick up my case and . . . it never arrived. I don't know if the guy I talked to didn't follow through or if Union beverage dropped the ball or if SN Stout isn't available in NYC.
I bought a case of other beer instead.
I'll try again sometime but I was disappointed but also not surprised as any of the 3 scenarios above are very plausible.

Previous reconnections are excellent; I'll add a few more.

Someone already suggested Edmund Fitzgerald porter (possibly my favourite beer), but Great lakes blackout stout is also very good.

Guinness draught bores me, but I like the extra stout and love the foreign export stout.

Also try Bells Kalamazoo and special double cream stouts.

For some reason I have no trouble finding Sierra Nevada stout here in PA... If you do find some, buy it. It's excellent.

I am located in south Jersey and I recently just started carrying it in the store I manage about.... a month or so ago? It seems to be moving quite well! I actually have to make my third order of it this week.

I'm showing cases were shipped 12/5/17 to Union. Maybe they haven't made it to retail yet. Someone must be pouring kegs too, I see a pallet of kegs each week heading to Union.
    Stay Stout my friends.
