And if you add to that reading some reviews done by folks whose tastes are similar to your own.

I don't think it's all that controversial. Great lagers have been in Sierra Nevada's DNA since the beginning; and they've even stepped it up in the past few years with the collaboration Oktoberfests.

I'll admit that I didn't read the entire thread.
I reckon American brewers are afraid to brew beers on the lower abv side because they are fearful that any flaws will be revealed to one and all. With some exceptions like Notch Brewing and a few others .

I personally challenge brewers who frequent BA to step up to the plate and brew session strength beers and make them available. Now! (Definition of session strength beer still up for debate but 4% and under would please me the most)

I don't think that it has much to do with flaws. I think it has more to do with American craft beer drinkers preferring higher ABV beers.

That's not what I have seen lately. I see loads of Lagers, Cream Ales, Golden/Blonde Ales coming out of nowhere, and selling well. Most that I have tried have been executed very well but I still yearn for lower abvs and I always will.

Flaws .Easily hidden in higher abv beers, easy to pick out on the lower end but I'm not saying anything you don't already know.

I think a few BA's expanded upon and explained my opinion more eloquently than I did.

So all that aside...just out of curiosity, which beer was it? Because I also think strictly going by the ratings (again, without context) doesn't work for all styles on this website. I'm sure I've had more than a few German styles that I adore that are rated a 3.65.

Except you can take your leftovers to go. You can't take your unfinished beer home with you.

I think it's a bit of both. I think many lower ABV styles can be harder to brew. Combine that with the fact that many of today's beer geeks don't give a shit about those styles...and well, there's no point in brewing them is there?

That depends on the niche you want to fill. There are plenty of breweries around- Notch amongst them- that show that it can be done. You're just going to have to develop your customer base the old fashioned way instead of having one handed to you.

Agreed. @EvenMoreJesus seems to enjoy having fun on this site by being sarcastic with people, but it comes off in a bad way. I guess I can tolerate him since I have to

Either way, I think he's a good dude. When we butted heads, he was cool about it. And no, I am not trying to make this a controversial opinion . . .

I have had friends whose urge to contradict is on hair trigger, and who have felt overconfident about their own knowledge base. They are good for those times when they have some great info to add, but mainly they are good at making me appreciate more people who are less incessantly motivated to contradict and teach, though those are admirable traits when provided in less of a deluge.

And in the interest of fairness I am sure I have been considered that person at times, and I am sure I and others who are guilty in this way have been less aware of it than we should have been, and likely should be forgiven for it..

    Here's a good one...

People who love German styles* more than other styles tend to be more knowledgeable about beer than those who love IPAs more.

*You could likely insert Czech styles and session strength English ales into this sentence.

    Exactly.

Another way to say this is expressed by one of my friends who often says, "I have to learn from the mistakes of others, I don't have time to make them all myself."

Agreed, but the comment I was replying to made a point of always finishing their meal, comparing it with beer.
