Visiting Seattle - Spring 2018

Thanks for doing this. A quick note, SeaTac is, or will soon be, doing a remodel of the terminal, which is going to limit the food/beer options even more than usual.

this is definitely already happening. The main food court area in the central terminal is all but completely blocked off. I believe signs say it will reopen in summer '19.

There is, however, a relative newcomer - Floret. Just past the Taproom. Only 4 beers on tap, but things not seen other places in the airport, and all good beers.

 

@walterfredo asked a question this morning, just before the Winter edition got locked. Here's the Cut n paste:

"Flying into Seatac next Monday with the fam and heading from the airport directly to Lake Quinault for 2 days/1 night, before heading back to Seattle for the rest of the week. indeed. i had a pfriem ipa on a layover last week. my usual seatac routine starts at the taproom, but will now be a few steps more for beers at floret. better atmosphere, for sure.

Looking forward to a visit to Seattle next week and a brief detour to Olympic NP. Undoubtedly the majority of the beer-related time will be spent at Seapine (my buddy is brewer/co-owner), but have a condo conveniently rented two blocks from Cloudburst. The only two of the "highly recommended" I have not previously visited are Stoup (which I've had their beers and loved them) and Georgetown, so will likely try to make those a priority. Also seems like Urban Family has stepped it up since I was last their a couple years ago so may try to pop in their too. If not, I'll be in back in August!

 

Grab a six pack or two of Georgetown’s canned IPAs: Bodhizafa and Lucille

You can venture down to the tap room for free beer tasting (esp since you’ll be nearby at Seapine), but be aware it’s only open odd hours (10-6).

Apparently the Cannery is no longer in business. From their Facebook page:

What part of town is best to stay in? My wife and I want to visit and usually do Airbnb. We like to walk around and explore.

Capitol Hill and Ballard have the highest concentrations of good food. Ballard easily wins for beer. Capitol Hill is a short walk from downtown, where the touristy stuff is. If I were you, I'd choose Ballard and make good use of these damn rental bikes that sit around on all the corners.

If you get a nice sunny day while you're here, make it a priority to go to Marination Ma Kai in West Seattle, then head down to Beer Junction. You won't regret it.

 

I don't spend a lot of time down there (I have a well documented city allergy), but I'll throw this in: Depending on how you feel about using public transit, it kinda don't matter where you stay, IMHO. The bus system is solid, and the light rail is solid, and expanding. If you stay south of the City proper, you'll likely find a better price. Wutevz. Have a great visit!

Perfect, thank you! Obvisouly we want to hit a bunch of breweries and beer related places. But we also want to do some exploring and nature related things too. I want to hit a concert at The Gorge and stay im Portland for a couple of days while we are in "the area"

 

I would just find long term parking some place in the Ballard area and just Uber/Lyft to everywhere Northwest of downtown (A Cloudburst, Holy Mountain, Reuben's, Stoup, Fremont circuit is really easy to do.). It just takes away any potential stress of worrying about how much you've had to drink vs being safe to drive. Oh and you don't have to deal with Parking.

In terms of places to stay, I would look at AirBnB. We've found an awesome place that we always use now that's only $80 a night in the Northern Part of Ballard.
