-> Poll #6 <- determined that D-90 Syrup will advance (inseparably with one or more ingredients from "CaraPils and/or Other Cara/Crystal Malt(s)") to a future combo poll that will feature at least one ingredient from "Munich and/or Vienna Malt(s)" and at least one ingredient from "Aromatic/Aroma Malt." Poll #6 also determined that D-180 Syrup might advance along with D-90.

This poll will determine if D-180 advances along with D-90.

    Simple plurality for this one.

I recommend you think about this in terms of not only your personal preferences, but also in the context of the ABV and Final Gravity (and thus the attenuation) already selected, malt already selected, and malts still possible, as well as any possible yeast strain selection that might be kicking around in your head.

This poll will be open for 48 hours.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via beermail. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently.

My preference was D-180 in the last poll, but I'm voting D-90 only this time. I don't want to lay out the cash for 2 and have syrup left over from each.

While i think using both would be interesting and help with attenuation, I cant justify $12 in syrup for a batch.

I'm in the same boat... no $$$ for multiple syrups. Also, if we are using a Cara, an Aromatic, and a Darker Base Malt along side, I think it is best to do the lighter D90 and use Special B to get the raisins and prunes.

They put out a FAQ flier that says you can store it at room temp for 6m unopened and 30days open but D90 and D180 can be frozen

So, just a question on this, who's used D-90 (or any of their other items) and how does it compare to using Belgian rock candi? It seems like they offer a lot of varieties that have more flexibility that give you greater options, but it's not very traditional. And is it easier to use (it must dissolve quicker) or do you spend a lot of time trying to get the last bits out of the container?

I have. It flows pretty well even at room temperature. The company recommends yoy warm the bag up in hot water first, however. Its like LME in that you can scortch it if you arent stirring when you add it.

Yep, I would say dark belgian candi hard sugar is about the same as D-90. Or at least from a SRM perspective and I did not get the same flavors in my quad this year where I only subbed it in.

I feel both are just as easy to use, just the hard candi takes longer to mix in.

Ok. Mercy rule. D-90 moves on without D-180.
